    In what way can the specific aesthetics of contemporary postcolonial literature be described using the metaphor of the palimpsest? Romane, die das lang verdrängte Thema des deutschen Kolonialismus ins Gedächtnis rufen, haben innerhalb der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur seit der Jahrtausendwende Konjunktur. Ausgehend von der Beobachtung, dass ein besonderes Merkmal der Texte ihre Intertextualität ist, geht Julian Osthues der Frage nach, inwiefern sich die spezifische Ästhetik dieser Literatur anhand der Schriftmetapher des »Palimpsests« beschreiben lässt und ihr ein »postkoloniales Potential« eigen ist. Die Studie lotet die heuristische Leistung der Palimpsest-Metapher für textanalytische und literaturtheoretische Perspektiven aus und schließt an zentrale Überlegungen der postkolonialen Theorie an

    In this paper we briefly introduce keystroke logging as a research method in writing research, focusing more explicitly on the recently developed linguistic analysis technique. In a case study of two elderly people (healthy versus demented), we illustrate some aspects of this linguistic approach. This analysis aggregates event-based data from the character level to the word level, while taking into account all the revisions that occurred during the composing process. The linguistic process analysis complements the logged process information with results from a part-of-speech tagger, a lemmatizer, a chunker, a syllabifier, and also adds word frequencies. The enriched word level information – together with action time and pause time at the word level – opens up new perspectives in the analysis of process dynamics, once more establishing a closer link between process and product analysis. We thus test the complementary diagnostic accuracy for Alzheimer’s disease, mainly focusing on cognitive and linguistic aspects that characterize the process of written language production.

Ausgehend von der Beobachtung, dass ein besonderes Merkmal der Texte ihre Intertextualität ist, geht Julian Osthues der Frage nach, inwiefern sich die spezifische Ästhetik dieser Literatur anhand der Schriftmetapher des »Palimpsests« beschreiben lässt und ihr ein »postkoloniales Potential« eigen ist.     I estimate the policy stance on the monetary policy rate decision, which stands for the intensity of the committee’s consensus to adjust the policy rate, with the minutes of the Bank of Korea from 1999 to May 2018. The policy stance is estimated more directly without relying on external dictionary information by using a parametric model that combines two observations-the text of the minutes and the actual policy rate decision, both of which are closely related to the policy stance. I also propose an algorithm matching non­consecutive collocations to improve the quality of the Korean text data. The estimated policy stance is applied into a vector-autoregression model, and shows that it improves the identification of the policy rate shock without losing many degrees of freedom. The results show one example where the text data work as an alternative to the traditional economic data, possibly even more parsimoniously and efficiently

Längst ist die Musikrichtung kein Nischenphänomen mehr, sondern die Rap-Szene zeichnet sich durch vielfältige Formen, Stile und Haltungen aus. Der Sammelband widmet sich deutschsprachigem Rap seit 2000 und legt den Fokus erstmals auf Einzeltextanalysen, die sich diesem Musikgenre und seinen Künstler*innen multiperspektivisch und -disziplinär annähern.

    As the role of central banks expanded, demand for public scrutiny of their actions increased. This paper investigates whether parliamentary hearings, the main tool to hold central banks accountable, are fit for this purpose. Using text analysis, it detects the topics and sentiments in parliamentary hearings of the Bank of England, the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve from 1999 to 2019. It shows that, while central bank objectives play the most relevant role in determining the topic, unemployment is negatively associated with the focus of hearings on price stability. Sentiments are more negative when uncertainty is higher and when inflation is more distant from the central bank's inflation aim. These findings suggest that parliamentarians use hearings to scrutinise the performance of central banks in line with their objectives and economic developments, but also that uncertainty is associated with a higher perceived risk of under-performance of central banks.
