The German Studies Department of Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship beginning July 1, 2019. Area of specialization: German literature (prose, lyric poetry, drama) of the Enlightenment, Weimar Classicism, and Romanticism. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research in the long eighteenth century will lend itself to collaborative scholarship with other colleagues in the Humanities. Candidates must possess native or near-native fluency in German. The 2/2 teaching load includes German-language courses on all levels and courses on German literature, thought, and culture taught in German or English. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, and offers a generous sabbatical program and competitive salaries and benefits.
