Postdoctoral Fellowship in Renaissance and Early Modern Comparative Literature

The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship for scholars in the field of Renaissance and Early Modern Comparative Literature, with a special interest in candidates with research interests in Classical, Renaissance and transnational Early Modern Drama. The fellowship will be for two years with the possibility for renewal for a third year. ABD’s may apply but the dissertation must be completed at the time that the fellowship begins.

This Post-doctoral Fellowship, which will begin September 1, 2022, will include a $42,000 annual stipend, a $20,000 housing allowance, full medical benefits and assistance with relocation.  The fellow chosen will be expected to teach two undergraduate courses a year (one per semester), to advance his or her own research project, and to work with Professor Susanne Wofford on a research project on transnational early modern drama. The expectation is that the post doc would divide their time roughly in thirds, spending one third of their time on their teaching, one third on their research and one third on their collaboration and research assistance for Professor Wofford. The Post Doctoral fellow chosen will also be invited to take part in the academic life of NYU and the Gallatin School.  We are especially interested in candidates who have capacity to work fluently in one or more of the following languages: Italian, Spanish, and French, with special interest in scholars who can work at a high level in Latin or Classical Greek. An ideal candidate will have a research project in the field of Renaissance and Early Modern Literature that is interdisciplinary in nature, and engages with questions of epic, fiction and/or drama in more than one language. In addition, we are looking for someone who is organized and capable of high level research and writing in the field.  Experience teaching your own course is highly desirable, but in any case evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching will be an important criterion.
