    This paper presents a review of accessibility measures in transportation studies by addressing its conceptual framework, data requirements, and applications. Depending on the theoretical basis, the accessibility measures are classified, in infrastructure, location, gravity, space-time and utility-based measure. A system approach is applied to identify the relations among the interacting variables: land use, transportation, temporal and individual. The criteria, including theoretical basis, interpretability, and data requirements are used to evaluate these measures. Recent progress in accessibility studies point towards the inclusion of more individual's spatial-temporal accessibility measure (using the space-time prism concept) but the data requirements, and interpretability of this measure remains as a problem. Furthermore, most of the measures for not considering the competition for opportunities (e.g. jobs on the employment market), and it seems to be the main issue for the development of more realistic accessibility measures.

    On accession to the EU, Poland, one of the most agricultural countries in the region, became eligible for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which it perceived as a chance to develop its rural economy. However, in constructing its 2007-2013 Rural Development Programme, Poland directed the largest funding share to Less Favoured Areas (LFA) -- a controversial measure accused of poor targeting and ineffectiveness. In this paper, we analyse the spatial economic consequences of LFA support for all 16 NUTS2 regions in Poland using a regional computable general equilibrium model called POLTERM. We show that LFA support did help to increase farmers incomes, but harmed export-oriented sectors and hindered structural change in the Polish economy.     This paper discusses measurement techniques used in the literature to quantify inflation perception and expectations on the basis of qualitative survey data. Description of quantification methods and assessment of their strengths and weaknesses is supplemented with an overview of direct measures of consumer inflation expectations in the European Union quantified with a number of techniques. Except presenting quantification methods, constraints in their interpretation and their results, the paper describes how direct measures of inflation expectations are used in central banks nowadays.

    Purchasing power adjusted incomes applied in cross-country comparisons are measured with bias. In this paper, we estimate the purchasing power parity (PPP) bias in Penn World Table incomes and provide corrected incomes. The bias is substantial and systematic: the poorer a country, the more its income tends to be overestimated. Consequently, international income inequality is substantially underestimated. Our methodological contribution is to exploit the analogies between PPP bias and the bias in consumer price index (CPI) numbers. The PPP bias and subsequent corrected incomes are measured by estimating Engel curves for food, which is an established method of measuring CPI bias.

    Nominal wage stickiness is an important component of recent medium-scale macroeconomic models, but to date there has been little microeconomic evidence supporting the assumption of sluggish nominal wage adjustment. We present evidence on the frequency of nominal wage adjustment using data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) for the period 1996-1999. The SIPP provides high-frequency information on wages, employment, and demographic characteristics for a large and representative sample of the U.S. population. The main results of the analysis are as follows: (1) After correcting for measurement error, wages appear to be very sticky. In the average quarter, the probability that an individual will experience a nominal wage change is between 5 and 18 percent, depending on the samples and assumptions used. (2) The frequency of wage adjustment does not display significant seasonal patterns. (3) There is little heterogeneity in the frequency of wage adjustment across industries and occupations. (4) The hazard of a nominal wage change first increases and then decreases, with a peak at 12 months. (5) The probability of a wage change is positively correlated with the unemployment rate and with the consumer price inflation rate.

    The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how the change in actual and potential market risks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) during the two-year period 2007-2008 can be analyzed with the help of-analysis. In the empirical analysis, the average of the Lyapunov exponents for the dynamic system generating DJIA returns is used as the stability measure, whereas the squared DJIA return is used as the variability measure. The main findings are as follows: (i) the potential market risk in the DJIA did not fluctuate that much during 2007, with the exceptions of early fall and near the end of the year; (ii) the potential market risk fluctuated a lot during 2008, especially in early August and in the middle of September; and (iii) the actual market risk in the DJIA was considerably higher near the end of 2008, especially in October, compared with the rest of the period. -- Dow Jones ; Financial Crisis ; Lyapunov Exponents ; Market Risk ; Potential Market Risk ; Stability ; Volatility
