    Abstract: "Discussions about the international development of labour markets tend to just look at Western countries: the USA, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark. The countries neighbouring to the East don't seem to play a major role in this at all. This contribution will examine precisely this question, picking out as its central theme the growing significance of Eastern Central European transformation economies for industrial production locations by using the example of the substantial inflow of foreign direct investment. Here, the auto industry has proven to be one of the leading sectors. Even if the aggregate sums of direct investment flowing into Central and Eastern Europe are naturally small in comparison with the 'Triad' of the USA, Japan, and Western Europe. The development still signalizes the region's growing importance in locational competition.     Abstract: "1. IPRs can be a very useful instrument for making FDI policy more effective for the development process. 2. IPRs should not focus exclusively on foreign direct investment but rather on investment in general and consider FDI as one of several elements in the development process. 3. UNCTAD should, in accord with donor countries, take a greater say in the selection of the countries reviewed. The starting point should be an analysis of the absorption capacity and the need for external assistance in the countries in question. 4. In view of widely differing domestic capacities and different needs for and institutional policy advice, UNCTAD should undertake more efforts to adapt the volume of issues covered to the advice actually needed. Activities could extend from Quick Response Window action on one or few specific problems to an "IPR light" or a full-fledged IPR. 5.     Abstract: 'Der Zerfall der Sowjetunion ging mit zentrifugalen Tendenzen innerhalb der Rußländischen Förderation einher. Besonders stark waren in der ersten Hälfte der neunziger Jahre die Widersprüche zwischen der Zentrale in Moskau und mehreren von insgesamt 89 Förderationsmitgliedern im Wirtschaftsbereich ausgeprägt. Es ist an der Zeit, Bilanz über diese auf einem Zick-Zack-Weg verlaufende Entwicklung zu ziehen und ihre Perspektiven zu skizzieren. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Studie besteht dabei nicht in einer allumfassenden Darstellung der Wirtschaftsbeziehungen zwischen dem Zentrum und den Regionen, sondern in einer tiefgreifenden Analyse der regionalbezogenen Finanz- und Investitionslage.     Abstract: "The economic and political rise of China has led to considerable controversy regarding potential repercussions for the current global governance architecture. At least two opposing scenarios are conceivable: China's adaptation to the rules and norms system shaped by developed countries or the pursuit of a distinctive policy approach, a possibility that involves the danger of clashing regulatory policies. A recent and increasingly dynamic trend giving substance to the phenomenon of China's rising importance is the growth of outward foreign direct investments (OFDI) by Chinese enterprises. Against this background, the present paper investigates the evolution and change of Chinese international investment policy-making, with a particular focus on bilateral investment treaties (BITs) as the most important legal instrument for the governance of global foreign direct investment (FDI) flows.     Abstract: The level of bank development has a determinant effect on the growth potentials of a developing economy. In response, this study examined the impact of banking sector development on foreign investment inflows in the West African countries of Nigeria and Ghana. The study relied on secondary data for analysis and made use of multiple regression technique. However, to ensure the authenticity of our result, Augmented Dickey-Fuller unit root test and Johansen Cointegration techniques were respectively employed to test for the presence unit root and long-run equilibrium relationship in the exogenous variables. Additionally, causal relationships were tested with Granger Causality. It was revealed that banking sector development has a significant influence on foreign investment inflows in the two West African countries. Specifically, domestic credit to private sector and bank deposit rate has significant influence on foreign investment inflows in both countries. Where as domestic credit to
