    Die volkssprachlichen Bearbeitungen lateinischer geistlicher Lieder im deutschen Mittelalter sind noch kaum erforscht. Welche Hymnen, Sequenzen und Antiphonen wurden übersetzt? Wo, in welcher Weise und zu welchem Zweck wurden sie ins Deutsche übertragen? Wie schlägt sich der ursprünglich liturgische Charakter der lateinischen Lieder im volkssprachlichen Gebrauch nieder? Der Sammelband vereint eine Reihe von Fallstudien, die auf der Basis des Berliner Repertoriums entstanden, einer von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Online-Datenbank, die die mittelalterlichen deutschen Übertragungen lateinischer Hymnen, Sequenzen und Antiphonen erschließt. Behandelt werden berühmte Lieder auf ihrem Weg in die Volkssprache wie die Hymnen Ave vivens hostia und Veni creator spiritus, die Sequenzen Lauda Sion salvatorem und Stabat mater dolorosa sowie die Antiphonen Media in vita und Salve regina. Prominente Liederdichter wie der Mönch von Salzburg werden ebenso untersucht wie anonyme Bearbeitungen aus dem monastischen Milieu. So dokumentieren die Beiträge die breiten Spielräume des volkssprachlichen Zugriffs auf die lateinische Liturgie im Mittelalter. Der Sammelband bietet neue Impulse für alle mediävistischen Fächer, die sich mit Überlieferung und Gebrauch liturgischer Lieder im Mittelalter befassen, insbesondere der germanistischen und mittellateinischen Philologie, der Theologie und der Musikwissenschaft

Paul Gerhardts (1607-1676) Lied „Geh’ aus, mein Herz, und suche Freud’0 zählt zu den bekanntesten Kirchenliedern und ist einer der heute lebendigsten Texte der Barockzeit überhaupt. In einer historisch sensibilisierten Interpretation dieses Meisterwerks entziffert Johann Anselm Steiger das Sommerlied konsequent aus den frömmigkeits-, lyrik- und theologiehistorischen Kontexten heraus. Dabei werden erstmals die Theologie der Barockzeit, die geistliche Naturkunde des 17. Jahrhunderts sowie die Emblematik angemessen berücksichtigt. Gerhardt wird exemplarisch als ein poeta doctus präsentiert, der mit seiner Dichtung der facettenreichen Gelehrsamkeit seiner Zeit auf Augenhöhe begegnete und diese kongenial verarbeitete. ‘Go seek, my heart, the joys of life’ by Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676) counts among the best-known German church hymns and is one of the most vivid extant texts from the Age of Baroque. Johann Anselm Steiger presents an historically sensitive interpretation of this masterpiece and decodes the Summer Song consistently from its contexts in the history of piety, lyric poetry and theology. For the first time, adequate account is taken of theology in the Baroque, of the spiritual study of nature and of emblematics. Gerhardt is presented as an exemplar of the poeta doctus who in his poetry met the multi-facetted erudition of his age on equal terms and assimilated it in a congenial manner.     Die volkssprachlichen Bearbeitungen lateinischer geistlicher Lieder im deutschen Mittelalter sind noch kaum erforscht. Welche Hymnen, Sequenzen und Antiphonen wurden übersetzt? Wo, in welcher Weise und zu welchem Zweck wurden sie ins Deutsche übertragen? Wie schlägt sich der ursprünglich liturgische Charakter der lateinischen Lieder im volkssprachlichen Gebrauch nieder? Der Sammelband vereint eine Reihe von Fallstudien, die auf der Basis des Berliner Repertoriums entstanden, einer von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Online-Datenbank, die die mittelalterlichen deutschen Übertragungen lateinischer Hymnen, Sequenzen und Antiphonen erschließt. Behandelt werden berühmte Lieder auf ihrem Weg in die Volkssprache wie die Hymnen Ave vivens hostia und Veni creator spiritus, die Sequenzen Lauda Sion salvatorem und Stabat mater dolorosa sowie die Antiphonen Media in vita und Salve regina. Prominente Liederdichter wie der Mönch von Salzburg werden ebenso untersucht wie anonyme Bearbeitungen aus dem monastischen Milieu. So dokumentieren die Beiträge die breiten Spielräume des volkssprachlichen Zugriffs auf die lateinische Liturgie im Mittelalter. Dabei werden erstmals die Theologie der Barockzeit, die geistliche Naturkunde des 17. Jahrhunderts sowie die Emblematik angemessen berücksichtigt. Johann Anselm Steiger presents an historically sensitive interpretation of this masterpiece and decodes the Summer Song consistently from its contexts in the history of piety, lyric poetry and theology. For the first time, adequate account is taken of theology in the Baroque, of the spiritual study of nature and of emblematics. Gerhardt is presented as an exemplar of the poeta doctus who in his poetry met the multi-facetted erudition of his age on equal terms and assimilated it in a congenial manner.     This book analyses Fenian influences on Irish nationalism between the Phoenix Park murders of 1882 and the Easter Rising of 1916. It challenges the convention that Irish separatist politics before the First World War were marginal and irrelevant, showing instead that clear boundaries between home rule and separatist nationalism did not exist. Kelly examines how leading home rule MPs argued that Parnellism was Fenianism by other means, and how Fenian politics were influenced by Irish cultural nationalism, which reinforced separatist orthodoxies, serving to clarify the ideological distance between Fenians and home rulers. It discusses how early Sinn Fein gave voice to these new orthodoxies, and concludes by examining the ideological complexities of the Irish Volunteers, and exploring Irish politics between 1914 and 1916.     Die volkssprachlichen Bearbeitungen lateinischer geistlicher Lieder im deutschen Mittelalter sind noch kaum erforscht. Welche Hymnen, Sequenzen und Antiphonen wurden übersetzt? Wo, in welcher Weise und zu welchem Zweck wurden sie ins Deutsche übertragen? Wie schlägt sich der ursprünglich liturgische Charakter der lateinischen Lieder im volkssprachlichen Gebrauch nieder? Der Sammelband vereint eine Reihe von Fallstudien, die auf der Basis des Berliner Repertoriums entstanden, einer von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Online-Datenbank, die die mittelalterlichen deutschen Übertragungen lateinischer Hymnen, Sequenzen und Antiphonen erschließt. Behandelt werden berühmte Lieder auf ihrem Weg in die Volkssprache wie die Hymnen Ave vivens hostia und Veni creator spiritus, die Sequenzen Lauda Sion salvatorem und Stabat mater dolorosa sowie die Antiphonen Media in vita und Salve regina. Prominente Liederdichter wie der Mönch von Salzburg werden ebenso untersucht wie anonyme Bearbeitungen aus dem monastischen Milieu. So dokumentieren die Beiträge die breiten Spielräume des volkssprachlichen Zugriffs auf die lateinische Liturgie im Mittelalter.     This book analyses Fenian influences on Irish nationalism between the Phoenix Park murders of 1882 and the Easter Rising of 1916. It challenges the convention that Irish separatist politics before the First World War were marginal and irrelevant, showing instead that clear boundaries between home rule and separatist nationalism did not exist. Kelly examines how leading home rule MPs argued that Parnellism was Fenianism by other means, and how Fenian politics were influenced by Irish cultural nationalism, which reinforced separatist orthodoxies, serving to clarify the ideological distance between Fenians and home rulers. It discusses how early Sinn Fein gave voice to these new orthodoxies, and concludes by examining the ideological complexities of the Irish Volunteers, and exploring Irish politics between 1914 and 1916.
