"This title was originally meant to discuss the essence and activity of the demonic forces in Lurianic Kabbalah, but was expanded as a monograph dealing with the main principles of the Lurianic Kabbalah as a whole. The research is based mainly on the writings of Hayyim ben Joseph Vital, a student of Rabbi Luria. The author comes to the conclusion that from the Lurianic Kabbalah arises a bold myth of a covert ancient dualism of divinity, in which dealing with evil forces serves as a central element. This short study is the first in a comprehensive investigation of Lurianic Kabbalism."

"In the 1880s, Warsaw was a hub for Jewish writers and cultural agents from across the Russian Empire and outside it. In just two generations, it became the most dynamic and prolific center for Hebrew and Yiddish literature and journalism. Writers active in Warsaw not only enriched Jewish culture but also played an active role in Jewish life in Poland, facing a variety of everyday challenges. The main manifestation of literary life was the Union of Jewish Writers and Journalists, a socially and culturally significant institution. It reflected the ever-changing facets of the Jewish literary environment in Warsaw. This book reveals a variety of sources pertaining to this vibrant life in the years 1918-1939, as well as the years of ghetto and destruction, 1939-1942. Different historical and social aspects of this period in Jewish history are examined vis-à-vis these and other sources."

Set somewhere between an Orwellian dystopian vision and an all too familiar contemporary reality, 'Nativities' turns a lens on everyday office life and how personalities are warped in its liminal space. Within the repeating motifs of the anonymity of the corporate existence, recurrent unvaried routines and ominously authoritative performance targets, the core of the play focuses on the sheer isolation and loneliness of the characters. The dialogue is overlapping, misunderstood and disconnected, and the characters are unable to communicate in spite of spending the majority of their waking lives together. This kaleidoscopic dialogue and the slippery, shifting ground between the characters effectively creates a new language for the stage which is startlingly original.

But as Beats turns into a producer, and Cold, the 'bedroom genius', fights for the space to be a true artist, the tension builds beat by beat.

Winner of the Laurence Olivier Play of the Year Award in 1988, and many other major awards, 'Our Country's Good' was first produced at the Royal Court Theatre in 1988. Wertenbaker's adaptation of Keneally's novel 'The Playmaker' concerns a group of Royal Marines and convicts in a penal colony in New South Wales in the 1780s, who put on a production of 'The Recruiting Officer'. The play shows the class system in the convict camp and discusses themes such as sexuality, punishment, the Georgian judicial system, and the idea that that it is possible for 'theatre to be a humanising force'.

Set in 18th-century England: the foppish and cold-blooded Lord Are is forced by poverty into an unwanted marriage with the daughter of a wealthy mineowner, and they proceed to detest one another. The second plot sees the guileless footman Bob Hedges bring home a new wife, Rose, who is the daughter of a freed slave. One morning, Lord Are commits a bizarre and fatal crime over his breakfast toast. He persuades the dazed Bob that it is in fact Bob who is responsible for the crime. But a battle ensues between the justice-hungry Rose and the fortified privilege of the ruling classes.

A young couple are moving into their new home. A soldier is being held hostage. Two boys are searching for monsters. All these things are connected by both family and time but what story can be told when family and time are broken? Set over the course of twelve years, 'Shivered' unpicks the story of two families and then re-weaves it into something new and startling. It is a state of the nation play meets a dream like memory play. It premiered at the Southwark Playhouse in March 2012.

A Jewish family mourns a dead patriarch. The term is 'sitting Shiva' (mourning for 7 days), when friends and relatives commiserate, usually in the home of the deceased. As children, we always understood this to be 'sit and shiver', which also seemed most appropriate. While death has claimed the old man and triggered the usual inflated eulogies - 'how important a man becomes when they die' - it has also brought to the surface hidden anxieties and grievances, only exacerbated when a visitor shows up bearing strange news that threatens to tear the family apart.

Simon is looking forward to lunch with Patrick Mulligan, the first man he slept with nearly twenty years previously, while playing Puck in a school production. It soon becomes apparent that Patrick is expecting to see not Simon, but the boy who played Lysander, and their lunch is cut short. When Simon is approached by Patrick's wife the situation becomes increasingly tortured and darkly comic. 'Southwark Fair' premiered at the National Theatre, London, in February 2006.

Lewis and Waldorf were inseparable at university. Ten years on and a lot has changed. In the middle of a drunken night out, they make a bet that will take their friendship to a whole new level. Challenging the expectations on which heterosexual relationships and platonic friendships are based, 'Straight' is a razor-sharp comedy based on the film 'Humpday', which was written and directed by Lynn Shelton. This stage adaptation was first produced at the Crucible Studio Theatre, Sheffield in November 2012.

'Stuff happens ... And it's untidy, and freedom's untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things.' The famous response of Donald Rumsfeld, American Secretary of Defense, to the looting of Baghdad, at a press conference on 11 April 2003, provides the title for a play, specially written for the Olivier Theatre, about the extraordinary process leading up to the invasion of Iraq. How does the world settle its differences, now there is only one superpower?.
