Changsheng, the young wife of the local coffin maker Liu Laoshi, is raped while making an offering to Guanyin in the hope of increasing her chances of bearing a son. Changsheng hangs herself following the encounter, and Liu Laoshi exacts bloody vengeance on the rapist's own wife and favorite prostitute.     Das Literaturwissenschaftliche Jahrbuch wurde 1926 von Günther Müller gegründet. Beabsichtigt war, in dieser Publikation regelmäßig einen Überblick über neue Forschungsvorhaben und -ergebnisse zu bieten. Darüber hinaus enthielt das Jahrbuch auch Primärliteratur. 1939 verboten die Nationalsozialisten das Periodikum. Im Jahre 1960 wurde unter der Ägide des Germanisten Hermann Kunisch eine Neue Folge begründet, die inzwischen auf nunmehr 47 Bände gediehen ist. In der fächerübergreifenden Zeitschrift werden Beiträge zur Germanistik, Anglistik/Amerikanistik und Romanistik auf Deutsch und in den zu den Fächern gehörenden Sprachen publiziert. Außerdem enthält sie einen umfangreichen Besprechungsteil. -- Das Literaturwissenschaftliche Jahrbuch ist auf keine Methode festgelegt. Die Herausgeber streben an, auch Beiträge junger Nachwuchswissenschaftler aufzunehmen. Zu den Besonderheiten gehört darüber hinaus, bislang unveröffentlichte literarische Texte zu publizieren. / The Literaturwissenschaftliches Jahrbuch (Yearbook of Literary Studies) was founded in 1926 by Günther Müller with the aim to publish both research and literary texts. The Jahrbuch was banned by the Nazis in 1939 and re-founded by the German scholar Hermann Kunisch in 1960; the new series has now grown to 47 volumes. The trans-disciplinary journal publishes articles on German, English and American literature, as well as literature in the Romance languages. Articles may be written in German or the languages of the respective fields. Each volume also comprises a substantial review section. Early career scholars are encouraged to submit their manuscripts. -- The Literaturwissenschaftliche Jahrbuch is not restricted to any specific method or school. It focuses on texts and developments from the Middle Ages to the present. With a view to exploring the multilingual and transcultural dimension of the literatures involved, emphasis will be given to comparative approaches.

    A critical rethinking of theories of national imagination, The Dawn That Never Comes offers the most detailed reading to date in English of one of modern Japan's most influential poets and novelists. This book surveys the ideologies of national imagination at play in early-twentieth-century Japan, specifically in the work of Shimazaki Toson (1872-1943) Bourdaghs analyzes Toson's major works in detail, using them to demonstrate that the field of national imagination requires a complex interweaving of varied--and sometimes even contradictory--figures for imagining the national community.
