eng: This dissertation deals (a) with a mythical subject and (b) with the problem of treating mythology in modern literature. Main objective is to answer the following questions: why has mythology such an important place in modern literature and how it has been elaborated from three representative writers of South-Eastern Europe? The subject or motive analysed here tells about a woman who has to be sacrificed in order that a great building should be erected and hold. It was spread all over the Balkans in form of a ballad. The authors dealt with in this study treated the theme in very different ways: N. Kazantzakis introduced the motive in his play 'The Masterbuilder' (1908), I. Andric made use of it in his renowned novel 'There is a Bridge over the Drina' (1945), and the Albanian author I. Kadare based his novel 'The Bridge with three Arches' (1978) on the subject of the ballad as well. The first chapter deals with the myth of the sacrificed woman. It tries to interprete its main motives and to look in its principal message. The aim here is to create a starting-point for the comparison between the three authors. The second, third and fourth chapters provide short biographies and portraits of the respective authors. A detailed analysis of the texts mentioned above and of other works which also rely on mythical themes, is furnished at the end of the portraits. The fifth chapter attempts a comparison between the three authors and gives a particular interpretation of the way in which each of them retells the motive of building sacrifices. Variants of the ballad as well as a Greek translation of 'The Masterbuilder by the author of this dissertation and two friends of him, function as an appendix to the text. (Author).
