    The circulation and entanglements of human beings, data, and goods have not necessarily and by themselves generated a universalising consciousness. The "global" and the "universal", in other words, are not the same. The idea of a world-society remains highly contested. Our times are marked by the fragmentation of a double relativistic character: the inevitable critique of Western universalism on the one hand, and resurgent identitarian and neo-nationalistic claims to identity on the other. Sources of an argumentation for a strong universalism brought forward by Western traditions such as Christianity, Marxism, and Liberalism have largely lost their legitimation. All the while, manifold and situated narratives of a common world that re-address the universal are under way of being produced and gain significance. This volume tracks the development and relevance of such cultural and social practices that posit forms of what we call minor universality. It asks: Where and how do contemporary practices open up concrete settings so as to create experiences, reflections and agencies of a shared humanity? ; European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant

    Deutsche und finnische Theologen diskutieren zunächst Grundfragen der christlichen Mystik anhand von Autoren aus dem Orient. Diesen Autoren aus dem irakisch-iranischen Raum (Aphrahat der persische Weise, Babai der Große; der heilige Hierotheos, Isaak von Ninive, Makarios), kommt eine herausragende Bedeutung im Bereich der christlich-orientalischen Mystik zu. Zugleich greifen Beiträge auch über diesen geographischen Raum hinaus und gehen der Mystik im deutschen Kontext nach (Luther, Arndt, Kant) und liefert ein Beitrag eine kritische Stimme zum Begriff Mystik und dessen Verortung in der deutschen Theologie.

    Ethiopia is the home to an ancient Christian tradition that started with the introduction of Christianity in the 4th century AD. Today, many hundreds Ethiopian churches and monasteries still preserve numerous manuscripts, witnesses of the country's rich literary tradition. Written mostly in Ge'ez, the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, these unique documents are of great value as both part of the world cultural heritage and material for diverse scholarly studies.     The text presented in this article is the earliest homily in honour of the Archangel Uriel. The homily is attested in two copies: the earlier is EMML 1835 (fols 166ra–181vb) copied during the time of Emperor Zärʾa Yaʿǝqob (r 1434–1468), and the other is EMML 1841 (fols 137vb–151ra) dated to the seventeenth century. The text makes significant use of 4 Ezra and 1 Enoch, depicting Uriel as angelus interpres and helper of Enoch and Ezra.

    The main themes of the text, occasionally ascribed to Ezra (Salathiel), are the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the end of the world, the future rulers of Ethiopia, and the honouring of the Sabbaths. It is cast in the spirit of 4 Ezra, quoting it and Jubilees occasionally and extensively. As in 4 Ezra, its author is interested in knowing and declaring the future to call the faithful to observe the law and the ordinances. Reckoning the time by cycles, aqmar, provides him the revelation of future events ‘with exact dates’. The text, composed before the sixteenth century, is one more source of Gǝʿǝz apocalyptic literature. The article is an edition and translation of it as preserved in EMML 6429, fols 9v–39r.
