Réalisme magique, réel merveilleux, réalisme merveilleux : des notions fort méconnues en France actuellement, ou totalement amalgamées dans une confusion terminologique presque aussi grande que le champ d’appellation qu’elles recouvrent . Fort de ce constat alarmant, et ayant pu remarquer la récurrence de multiples caractéristiques communes dans des textes qui leur étaient apparentés indifféremment, nous avons eu pour ambition dans notre travail de proposer une définition synthétique, sous une appellation globale de réalisme merveilleux, d’un mode littéraire à part entière, distinct du fantastique ou du merveilleux auxquels il se trouve pourtant si souvent rattachés. Pour cela, et afin d’avoir un corpus qui illustre de manière assez large géographiquement cette mouvance en pleine expansion, nous nous sommes appuyée sur les textes de cinq auteurs d’horizons très distincts : l’haïtien René Depestre, le mexicain Juan Rulfo, l’ivoirien Ahmadou Kourouma, l’auteur d’origine indienne Salman Rushdie et l’un des premiers écrivains tziganes, Matéo Maximoff. Leurs œuvres singulières nous ont permis d’appréhender la visée littéraire de ce mode, son impact sur le renouvellement des codes de représentation du réel et au de-là son intérêt dans l’évolution la littérature contemporaine Magical realism, real marvellous, marvellous realism: notions extremely misread in France nowadays, or completely amalgamated in a terminological confusion almost as wide as the lexical field they cover. With this alarming acknowledgement in mind, and having noticed the recurrence of numerous common characteristics in texts which were related to them equally, we had as ambition in our work to offer a synthetic definition, under a global appellation of marvellous realism, a literary mode in full measure, distinct from the fantastic or from the marvellous in which it thinks however they are so often attached. For this reason, and to have a corpus which illustrates this enlarging sphere of influence in a rather broad way geographically, we leans on the texts of five authors coming from very different horizons : Haitian René Depestre, Mexican Juan Rulfo, of the Ivory Coast Ahmadou Kourouma, the native Indian writer, Salman Rushdie and one of first Gypsy writers, Matéo Maximoff. Their peculiar writings allowed us to arrest the literary aim of this mode, its impact on the renewal of the codes of representation of the real and beyond, its interest as far as the evolution of contemporary literature is concerned
