The volume’s essays highlight the fundamental link between the culture and life of Canadian Jews and their Polish roots. This focus brings Yiddish to the fore, in essays focusing on the history of Canadian Yiddish literature, and the relevance of the language for contemporary Canadian Chasidic communities.     The essays in this volume are concerned with early printed narrative texts in Western Europe. The aim of this book is to consider to what extent the shift from hand-written to printed books left its mark on narrative literature in a number of vernacular languages. Did the advent of printing bring about changes in the corpus of narrative texts when compared with the corpus extant in manuscript copies? Did narrative texts that already existed in manuscript form undergo significant modifications when they began to be printed? How did this crucial media development affect the nature of these narratives? Which strategies did early printers develop to make their texts commercially attractive? Which social classes were the target audiences for their editions? Around half of the articles focus on developments in the history of early printed narrative texts, others discuss publication strategies. This book provides an impetus for cross-linguistic research.     Ce travail est la première édition critique de l’ensemble des écrits principaux qui constituent ce que nous appelons « la querelle de La Pucelle ». La valeur historique de ces textes est incontestable. Le libelle de François Payot de Lignières et celui d’Hyppolite-Jules Pilet de la Mesnardière contre le poème épique - tant attendu - de Chapelain soulignèrent l’écart entre le battage orchestré avant la publication de La Pucelle et la véritable valeur de l’œuvre. Ces écrits n’ont jamais été republiés depuis leur première parution, jusqu’à maintenant. Cela est également vrai pour la réponse de Jean de Montigny au libelle de Lignières. Les seuls exemplaires connus de la réponse de Chapelain au sieur du Rivage (La Mesnardière) et de la Lettre de M Chapelain à M. de La Mesnardière n’existent que sous forme de manuscrits conservés à la Bibliothèque nationale de France. Ces documents n’ont jamais été intégralement publiés jusqu’à présent. Les extraits des Satires de Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux, que nous présentons dans notre volume, sont tirés des éditions originales. La parodie Chapelain décoiffé d’Antoine Furetière est tirée des Œuvres de Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux (1729), éditées par Bernard Picart. Notre livre a pour but de rendre ces écrits plus facilement accessibles afin que tous les lecteurs, qu’ils soient amateurs ou spécialistes de la littérature française, puissent juger de leur valeur historique et littéraire. L’édition comporte une introduction et plus de mille notes.

    Die Genese literarischer Texte und damit ihre dritte, zeitliche Dimension darzustellen, das stieß im zweidimensionalen Buch notgedrungen an Grenzen. Dagegen eröffnen sich mit der Digitalisierung neue Perspektiven: Die dritte Dimension der Textgenese wird durch Hyperlinkstrukturen und neue bild- und textgebende Verfahren erfahrbar.     Ecritures digitales aims to demonstrate how digital writing contributes to the emergence of ?a new relationship between the human body and the machine? as Jacques Derrida proposed when he considered the effects of new technologies. This reconfigured relationship, not surprisingly, is also influencing the digital future of the Jewish-Christian textual corpus referred to as ?the Scriptures?. The French title brings together this duality in one expression: Ecritures digitales. The English subtitle makes explicit the double meaning of the unique French word Ecritures: Digital writing, digital Scriptures. With a full French version and an abbreviated English version, this monograph analyzes the main challenges and opportunities for both writing and the Scriptures in the transition to digital culture. Ecritures digitales souhaite démontrer de quelle manière l?écriture digitale contribue à l?émergence d?une ± nouvelle relation du corps humain aux machines ?, selon le diagnostique posé par Jacques Derrida à propos des effets des nouvelles technologies. Cette relation innovante influence également l?avenir numérique du corpus textuel judéo-chrétien désigné comme ±les Ecritures?. Le titre français rassemble en une seule expression ces deux thématiques: Ecritures digitales. Le sous-titre anglais rend sa double signification explicite: Digital writing, digital Scriptures.     In an article entitled “Per una nuova valutazione del Quattrocento francese”

    published in 1957 on the threshold of the first booklet of "Studi Francesi", Franco Simone

    affirmed that philological restitution of texts and understanding

    of their place inside the culture that had products were the premise

    essential, before any exegesis or critical interpretation, to achieve

    a redefinition of overly limited historiographical paradigms in which the

    French literature from the late Middle Ages had been located until that time.

    We know that the research of the Italian scientist has powerfully dissipated

    the historiographical myth of the 15th century Gothic opposed to the blooming

    of Italian culture, for the benefit of an enhancement of wealth and fertility

    a period which testifies, among other things, to an acute historical awareness

    and of great interest for the ancient tradition, as well as for the great founders

    of Italian Humanism; in the following decades, synergistic efforts

    specialists largely trained in French, Belgian and Italian schools

    have resulted in the publication of numerous studies and editions in the

    field of literature in French medium, in favor of the base for a

    imposing critical work that has refined, corrected and deepened the suggested perspective

    formerly by the author of La coscienza della rinascita negli umanisti francesi. Dans un article intitulé « Per una nuova valutazione del Quattrocento francese »

    paru en 1957 au seuil du premier fascicule des « Studi Francesi », Franco Simone1

    affirmait que la restitution philologique des textes et la compréhension

    de leur place à l’intérieur de la culture qui les avait produits étaient la prémisse

    indispensable, avant toute exégèse ou interprétation critique, pour parvenir à

    une redéfinition des paradigmes historiographiques trop limités dans lesquels la

    littérature française du Moyen Âge tardif avait été située jusqu’à cette époque.

    On sait que les recherches du savant italien ont contribué puissamment à dissiper

    le mythe historiographique d’un XVe siècle gothique opposé à l’efflorescence

    de la culture italienne, au profit d’une valorisation de la richesse et de la fécondité

    d’une période qui témoigne, entre autres, d’une conscience historique aiguë

    et d’un grand intérêt pour la tradition antique, ainsi que pour les grands fondateurs

    de l’Humanisme italien ; dans les décennies suivantes, les efforts synergiques

    de spécialistes formés en grande partie à l’école française, belge et italienne

    ont abouti à la publication de nombreuses études et éditions dans le

    domaine de la littérature en moyen français, en fournissant la base pour un

    travail critique imposant qui a affiné, corrigé et approfondi la perspective suggérée

    autrefois par l’auteur de La coscienza della rinascita negli umanisti francesi.

    An invitation to an ethnographic journey in the world of hardcore punk and beyond, this study explores the plurality of practices underlying the existence of this “music-based subculture.” Based on a fine-grained, in-depth multi-sited and mobile ethnographic study of more than ten years, this journey brings the reader to the most local galleries of this underground scene. From the umpteenth basement of a Yokohama club to a shack in the middle of the University of San Diego, via Gothenburg, Tokyo, Geneva or Lyon, a whole repertoire of aesthetic, ideological, discursive and bodily logics and conventions is uncovered and analyzed. Hardcore punk, a radical reinterpretation of punk, both from a musical and an ideological point of view, first appeared on the East Coast of the United States in the early 1980s. Although it has since spread on a (quasi-)global scale, it remains unknown to the general public and has attracted little interest from the social sciences or the press, with rare exceptions focusing on its most spectacular aspects: exacerbated aggression, electric music, ideological positions in strong opposition to the “dominant system.” This monograph intends to go beyond these caricatural representations and adopts an anthropological perspective on the daily lives of so-called hardcore-kids, but also on all the collective mediations deployed to build the world of hardcore punk.

    Analyse du processus d'urbanisation massive des territoires ruraux chinois et de ses dérives Ce livre apporte des informations inédites et précieuses sur le processus actuel d'urbanisation massive des territoires ruraux chinois, 10 ans après le lancement du programme national d'Edification des campagnes socialistes. En Chine, un modèle urbain expansif réussit en effet sa généralisation dans l'ensemble du pays, appliquant brutalement et quasi systématiquement, malgré de grands écarts climatiques et culturels, les mêmes préceptes urbains jusqu'au coeur des campagnes. Plus généralement, l'ouvrage traite de l'urbanisation des campagnes comme enjeu territorial, environnemental et culturel majeur. Il place le monde rural comme objet d'études à part entière, plutôt que de le considérer comme simple contrepartie de la ville. Afin de mener une réflexion en profondeur, l'ouvrage aborde l'histoire du monde rural chinois qui oscille entre permanences et ruptures. Il se focalise également sur les modus operandi de cette invasion urbaine à travers l'établissement d'un diagnostic territorial précis. Il tend à exposer le système de chaînes d'intérêts qui implique l'ensemble des composants du territoire tout en se focalisant intentionnellement sur l'aménagement intégré des territoires ruraux. L'ouvrage est augmenté dans la version numérique d'un atlas d'échantillons multi-scalaires qui rendent compte du territoire - de l'échelle d'une région à celle d'une parcelle.

Appréhender ainsi des dispositifs aussi divers que les panoramas, les parcs d’attraction, le cinéma, mais aussi les grands globes, les dioramas, les vues de villes en trois dimensions et les œuvres contemporaines en réalité virtuelle, est un moyen de questionner le besoin de simuler des mondes éloignés ou imaginaires. A travers un bouleversement des échelles, une suspension du temps et une immersion des corps, ces dispositifs sont en effet susceptibles de modifier tant l’imagination que la conscience géographique de qui les expérimente.     Les expériences de politique urbaine menées à Vienne et à Francfort dans l’entre-deux-guerres – Das rote Wien et Das neue Frankfurt  – constituent aujourd’hui encore des références incontournables dans l’histoire du logement collectif en Europe. Les modèles architecturaux à l’origine de leur conception, le Hof à Vienne et la Siedlung à Francfort, représentent les «polarités extrêmes» des logements réalisés à cette époque. S’ils ont fait l’objet de nombreuses études, le principe de complémentarité qu’y décèle Alessandro Porotto à travers son analyse rigoureuse offre une piste de réflexion originale, que ce soit pour l’étude historique ou pour le potentiel architectural de ces réalisations. Au-delà de la compréhension documentaire des expériences viennoise et francfortoise, l’auteur les conçoit comme deux paradigmes d’organismes urbains appartenant pleinement à la ville contemporaine. À travers cette étude comparative émergent ainsi des questions cruciales quant au projet de logement collectif et à son évolution future. Sans s’arrêter sur des préjugés idéologiques, L’intelligence des formes présente une analyse critique allant de l’échelle de la ville au plan de logement pour présenter les résultats de ces deux modèles alternatifs de projet. Les documents d’archives viennent étoffer une série exhaustive de «redessins» méticuleux qui dévoile les complexités de ces ensembles, permettant de comparer aisément leurs spécificités typologiques. Les auteurs considèrent Kapuścinski avant tout comme un écrivain qui s’est incarné dans la figure d’un journaliste-voyageur et qui, grâce à son talent, a transformé le reportage en outil permettant de formuler des significations universelles tout en préservant sa sensibilité de journaliste aux changements et aux besoins du monde. Le livre propose des interprétations théoriques littéraires des principaux ouvrages de Kapuścinski, mais les auteurs étudient également avec attention le destin personnel de l’écrivain qui était souvent le héros de ses propres textes. This fame had spread to much of the rest of Western Europe and the stories of Renart had inspired many different literary works in many countries; they were among the earlier published works in Belgium, Holland, Germany, and England. A copious iconography - mediaeval wall-paintings, misereres, architectural carvings, manuscript illustrations, and, later, book illustrations - maintained the frame of the wily fox. Renart, originally a comic but also satirical personage, finally became one of the most popular personifications of the devil in literature and in art. This book will interest the specialist in many fields, treating as it does a subject that had ramifications not only in French literature, but also in German, Italian, Flemish and Dutch, English, and mediaeval Latin literature. Interest in the Roman de Renart has increased notably of late, and the iconography of Renart continues to attract attention. For students of English literature the subject of Renart is an important one, first because of the close relationship of mediaeval French and English literature, and also because of Chaucer's charming story of the Nun's Priest Tale, which was largely inspired by the oldest French branch of Renart

    Main description: This is the first truely critical edition of Chrétien de Troyes's "Perceval" and will replace the often inaccurate text of Hilka (1932). This new edition is based on ms. Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, fr. 12576 (T), but is moderately interventionist in its attempt to approximate more closely to the ipsissima verba of Chrétien; the critical text is accompanied by complete variants from the other manuscripts. The critical apparatus includes full descriptions of all the manuscripts of "Perceval", an examination of the manuscript transmission of the text, and of the language of the scribe of T and of Chrétien; the notes contain a running commentary on the manuscript tradition and a justification of every emendation made to the text of T. The edition concludes with a full glossary
