    Für die Untersuchung des Verhältnisses von Literatur und Musik im Arbeitsgebiet der Comparative Arts, des Künstevergleiches gibt es keine allgemeine Methodenlehre und selten wird in den speziellen Studien methodologisch reflektiert. Dieses Desiderat zu erfüllen, vermag kein einzelner Band allein aufgrund der vielfältigen Verhältnisse, in denen Literatur und Musik zueinander stehen. Das von Steven Paul Scher schon Ende der sechziger Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts entwickelte triadische Modell von ,Literatur in der Musik', ,Musik und Literatur' und ,Musik in der Literatur' hat sich durch alle theoretischen Modelle hindurch als grundlegende Typologie erhalten, markiert aber nur das Gerippe eines ästhetisch höchst dynamischen Zusammenspiels der seit den Urzeiten der Poesie miteinander verbundenen Schwesterkünste. Zwischen ihnen entfalten sich intermediale adaptive Prozesse der Emotionalisierung und Semantisierung, die auch an die wissenschaftliche Erforschung hohe interdisziplinäre Ansprüche stellen. Den hieraus resultierenden methodologischen Herausforderungen, die je nach Untersuchungsgegenstand neue Konstellationen eingehen, stellen sich die Autorinnen und Autoren der hier vorgelegten Studien

    Regarded by many as the last great mystical poet of medieval Persia, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Jāmī (d. 898/1492) spent the greater part of his life in Herat. As a student, he excelled in every subject he engaged in and appeared destined for an academic career. But then, in his early thirties, he went through a spiritual crisis that ended in him joining the Herat branch of the mystical Naqshbandiyya order, led by the charismatic Saʿd al-Dīn Kāshgharī (d. 860/1456). A protégé of three successive Timurid rulers in Herat, Jāmī's wide network of friendships and relations extended from spiritual and literary circles through the political to the academic. With 39.000 lines of verse and over 30 prose works to his name, Jāmī's literary production is quite overwhelming. The present volume, containing 433 of his letters and messages, bears witness to his great yet modest personality, his social engagement, and the expanse and variety of his network

    In the Persianate world, wisdom literature has a long history, dating back to pre-Islamic times. After the advent of Islam, this type of literature was continued, both in poetry and in prose. From among the medieval poets one could mention Firdawsī (d. 411/1020) and Nāṣir Khusraw (d. 481/1088), while among the writers of prose such authors as Niẓām al-Mulk (d. 485/1092) or Raḍī al-Dīn Nīshāpūrī (598/1201) come to mind. Still, the most influential medieval literary work on morals is without any doubt Saʿdī's (d. 691/1291-92) Rose Garden ( Gulistān ), a mixture of poetry and tales on a variety of themes in which morals play a central role. The present work on morals by Faqīr Shīrāzī (d. 1351/1932) takes its inspiration from Saʿdī's, which it emulates in many respects. Only, its thematic arrangement was taken from Naṣīr al-Dīn Ṭūsī's (d. 672/1274) philosophical Nasirean Ethics ( Akhlāq-i Nāṣirī ), centering on the virtues of wisdom, courage, continence and their balanced compound, justice

His Dīwān , published here in two volumes, underwent various changes before he finalized it in 896/1491. This best edition so far is based on some of the oldest surviving manuscripts. 2 vols; volume 2

    It is hard to discuss the current film industry without acknowledging the impact of comic book adaptations, especially considering the blockbuster success of recent superhero movies. Yet transmedial adaptations are part of an evolution that can be traced to the turn of the last century, when comic strips such as "Little Nemo in Slumberland" and "Felix the Cat" were animated for the silver screen. Representing diverse academic fields, including technoculture, film studies, theater, feminist studies, popular culture, and queer studies, Comics and Pop Culture presents more than a dozen perspectives on this rich history and the effects of such adaptations.Examining current debates and the questions raised by comics adaptations, including those around authorship, style, and textual fidelity, the contributors consider the topic from an array of approaches that take into account representations of sexuality, gender, and race as well as concepts of world-building and cultural appropriation in comics from Modesty Blaise to Black Panther.     Mit der Kombination aus postkolonialen Theorien, Entwicklungs- und Technikforschung betritt diese interdisziplinäre Arbeit neue Wege und trägt durch zwei detaillierte Fallstudien zum theoretischen Erkenntnisgewinn und zu einer kritischen entwicklungspolitischen Praxis bei. Zunächst werden aktuelle diskursive Formationen und politische Strategien des Energie- & "Entwicklungs"-Nexus herausgearbeitet und die Rolle von Technologien aus entwicklungs- und technikkritischer Perspektive reflektiert. Vor diesem theoretischen Hintergrund werden mittels ethnografischer Forschung Prozesse der Technikentwicklung in zwei Fallstudien deutsch-tansanischer Partnerschaften rekonstruiert, aus einer postkolonialen Perspektive analysiert sowie Möglichkeiten und Hemmnisse einer selbstbestimmten Technikentwicklung und -nutzung betrachtet. Die Fallstudien untersuchen die Kooperation zweier NGOs und zweier Unternehmen zur Entwicklung eines neuen Typs von Haushalts-Biogasanlagen bzw. von Solar-Home-Systemen. Das Werk hat den Wissenschaftspreis der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Sachsen gewonnen

    In literary studies today, debates about the purpose of literary criticism and about the place of formalism within it continue to simmer across periods and approaches. Anna Kornbluh contributes to-and substantially shifts-that conversation in The Order of Forms by offering an exciting new category, political formalism, which she articulates through the co-emergence of aesthetic and mathematical formalisms in the nineteenth century. Within this framework, criticism can be understood as more affirmative and constructive, articulating commitments to aesthetic expression and social collectivity. Kornbluh offers a powerful argument that political formalism, by valuing forms of sociability like the city and the state in and of themselves, provides a better understanding of literary form and its political possibilities than approaches that view form as a constraint. To make this argument, she takes up the case of literary realism, showing how novels by Dickens, Brontë, Hardy, and Carroll engage mathematical formalism as part of their political imagining. Realism, she shows, is best understood as an exercise in social modeling-more like formalist mathematics than social documentation. By modeling society, the realist novel focuses on what it considers the most elementary features of social relations and generates unique political insights. Proposing both this new theory of realism and the idea of political formalism, this inspired, eye-opening book will have far-reaching implications in literary studies
