    Other ; The various meanings of discourse connectives like while and however are difficult to identify and annotate, even for trained human annotators. This problem is all the more important that connectives are salient textual markers of cohesion and need to be correctly interpreted for many NLP applications. In this paper, we suggest an alternative route to reach a reliable annotation of connectives, by making use of the information provided by their translation in large parallel corpora. This method thus replaces the difficult explicit reasoning involved in traditional sense annotation by an empirical clustering of the senses emerging from the translations. We argue that this method has the advantage of providing more reliable reference data than traditional sense annotation. In addition, its simplicity allows for the rapid constitution of large annotated datasets.

    Other ; The situation once described by Hoffmann (1985), in which children grow up exposed to three languages from an early age, is a reality for an increasing number of families. In Europe – as elsewhere – greater mobility is leading to greater numbers of mixed-language couples (Piller 2002), and, by extension, multilingual families. For such families, questions concerning the acquisition and maintenance of three or more languages in a natural environment are of direct relevance. Researchers in bilingualism have already pointed out the importance of social context for the acquisition of two languages in childhood, focusing in particular on the quantity and quality of exposure to the languages (De Houwer 1990; Döpke 1992; Okita 2002; Lanza 2004) or the prestige of the languages (Lambert 1977). In this paper, I will make use of the insights gained by such researchers and test them in a trilingual setting. The paper will focus mainly on one aspect, namely the conversational style of parents and caretakers. The data come from research being carried out in Switzerland and consist of 33 interviews with multilingual families, as well as case studies of two trilingual children. The findings attest to the importance of conversational style, but at the same time indicate that a number of further factors are also of great significance.

Nationallizenz frei zugänglich. ; Other ; This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively. ; Abstract ; Die Verfasserin legt eine Einführung vor, die sich zwar aus langjähriger Lehrerfahrung an der Universität Leipzig speist, aber durchaus nicht nur an ein akademisches Publikum gerichtet ist. Vielmehr visiert Corbineau-Hoffmann jeden an, der sich mit der oberflächlichen Lektüre literarischer Texte nicht zufriedengibt. Gegenüber der in der heutigen Wissenschaft häufig vertretenen Ansicht, Kunst im allgemeinen und Literatur im besonderen habe nichts mit unserem alltäglichen Handeln oder sogar ‚Leben‘ zu tun, bekennt sie sich zu einem persönlichen Interesse an literarischen Texten, das sie auch bei den direkt angesprochenen Lesern ihres Buches wecken oder vertiefen will. „Lesen lernen!“ (S. XII), so heißt in Anklang an Kants „Sapere aude!“ das Motto, und die Verfasserin vergleicht sich selbst mit einer „Reiseleiterin“ (S. IX), insofern sie mit Ratschlägen und Hinweisen zu den Abenteuern der selbständig in ein tieferes Verständnis eindringenden Lektüre hinführen möchte. Ja, sie verspricht eine praktische „Anleitung“, die dieses hermeneutische Verständnis möglich machen soll. (Daß hierin ein Zielkonflikt angelegt ist, läßt sich bereits erahnen.) Die einzelnen Kapitel machen den Leser am Beispiel von ausgewählten Texten Hofmannsthals mit allgemeinen Techniken der Lyrik-, Dramen-, Erzähl- und Essay-Analyse bekannt und stellen ihm jeweils Arbeitsaufgaben, für die im Anhang des Buches Musterlösungen angeboten werden. Die Auswahl der analysierten Texte wird damit begründet, daß Hofmannsthal erstens in allen wichtigen Gattungen gearbeitet hat und er zweitens als ein ‚schwieriger‘ Autor gilt, an dem sich die Tauglichkeit der Methode bewähren kann.

Allzuvieles, vor allem zu viel Heterogenes ist unter diesem Terminus subsumiert worden; auch die bisweilen versuchte Gleichsetzung mit dem nicht minder schillernden Begriff des ‚Manierismus‘ hat eine mögliche Klärung eher behindert als gefördert. „Das Problem“, schreibt Hübner denn auch als Resümee in seinem das zweite Kapitel des Buches einnehmenden „Forschungsbericht zum ‚geblümten Stil‘“, „wurde in einer hundertjährigen Forschungsgeschichte weder konsensfähig gelöst noch erfolgreich aus der Welt geschafft; jede Verwendung des Terminus spiegelt eine unbegründete Sicherheit vor“ (S. 31).

    Abstract ; Das zutiefst feminisierte Konstrukt ‚Heimat‘ ist – sowohl als historischer Gegenstand als auch als literarisches Motiv – kontinuierlich bestimmten kulturellen, politischen und ideologischen Transformationsakten, Dynamisierungen und Recycling-Prozessen unterworfen, die insbesondere in der Literatur sichtbar werden. Derart sedimentiert tritt ‚Heimat‘ in Erzähltexten der Gegenwartsliteratur in Erscheinung, wird dort als historischer Gegenstand kritisch reflektiert, als Motiv zerrbildartig tradiert, hierin zugleich transformiert und dabei in auffallender Häufigkeit zu einer Kategorie der Zurichtung umgestaltet, die vor allem in der Synthese von ‚Körper‘ und ‚Geschlecht‘ ihren Ausdruck findet: Imaginationen vom ‚schwachen Geschlecht‘ werden in Bildern körperlicher Gewalt und Auslieferung erprobt und sind besonders häufig als Griffe ins Frauenhaar bzw. als Eingriffe in die weibliche ‚Haarbiografie‘ markiert. ‚Heimat‘ arriviert hierin zu einer Folie, auf der Figurationen (und Zirkulationen) von Macht in geschlechtlich codierten Körperbildern gespiegelt und verhandelt werden.

    Other ; Cet article s’intéresse aux différentes fonctions que l’on peut attribuer aux éléments fabuleux dans les œuvres du marquis de Sade. Il s’agit en particulier d’éclaircir les liens intertextuels entre Barbe-Bleue et un conte allégorique que le marquis publie, en 1800, dans la série de ses Crimes de l’amour, sous le titre de Rodrigue ou la tour enchantée. Dans ce texte, la chambre interdite renvoie aussi à un passé criminel, mais elle ne réveille pas la mauvaise conscience et ne suscite aucun remords. Sade semble vouloir faire du conte de Barbe-Bleue le paradigme d’un refoulement manqué, la figure d’une rechute malencontreuse dans un passé archaïque et indigne d’être examiné moralement. Or, les œuvres de Sade ne peuvent plus admettre l’univers surnaturel des contes de fées, considéré comme tout aussi révolu que cette conscience morale qui s’exprime par le remords.

We discuss the different roles played by festive laugh in a dramatic subgenre which intended to lead the audience to devotion. The aim of this article is to deepen into the strategies through which comedias de santos contributed to a double prospect, festive and pious. ; Other ; A partir del corpus de la comedia hagiográfica lopesca, se trata de valorar cómo se compatibilizó la comicidad propia del arte nuevo con el contexto piadoso consustancial a las piezas hagiográficas. Se reflexiona sobre los diferentes sentidos que podía adquirir la risa festiva en un subgénero dramático que aspiraba a mover el auditorio a devoción.     Other ; During popular elections in Switzerland, the Federal Council announces the governmental position by means of brochures that are sent to all citizens. These brochures are characterized by a tight correlation between argumentation and interaction at two levels: the interdiscursive and the interlocutive. The aim of this paper is to show, on the basis of representative brochures, how the argumentative strategies used by the Federal Council affect this correlation. In the brochures proposing a referendum project, for instance, we notice a limited interaction due to their rational argumentation and their tendency to focus on the point of view of the Federal Council. However, in the brochures supporting or rejecting the popular initiatives, we observe a rise in interactive procedures. These procedures can be convergent or divergent, and they are associated with different argumentative strategies that go from “overbid” to polemic. All in all, a study of these governmental brochures confirms that the analysis of political discourse is enhanced by the so-called “dialogical” models (Plantin 2005) of argumentation. ; Other ; Lors des votations populaires en Suisse, le Conseil fédéral fait connaître la position gouvernementale à l’aide de brochures envoyées à tous les citoyens. Celles-ci mettent en jeu une corrélation étroite entre argumentation et interaction, tant sur le plan interdiscursif qu’interlocutif. L’objectif de cet article est de montrer, à partir de brochures représentatives, comment une telle corrélation varie fortement selon les stratégies adoptées par le Conseil fédéral. Ainsi, dans les brochures proposant un projet de référendum, on remarque une interaction limitée, en raison de leur argumentation rationnelle et de leur tendance à se fermer sur le point de vue du Conseil fédéral. Par contre, dans les brochures soutenant ou rejetant des initiatives populaires, on observe une montée au premier plan des procédures interactives. Celles-ci peuvent être convergentes ou divergentes, en liaison avec différentes stratégies argumentatives qui vont de la surenchère à la polémique. Au total, ces brochures gouvernementales nous confirment que l’analyse du discours politique gagne à être repensée à l’aide des modèles dits « dialogaux » (Plantin 2005) de l’argumentation.

    Other ; The economic and cultural rise of parts of the ʿāmma due to the particular economic and infrastructural conditions of the Mamluk era fostered the emergence of new intermediate levels of literature that were situated between the literature of the elite and that of the utterly ignorant and unlettered populace, between the Arabic koiné (al-ʿarabīya al-fuṣḥā) and the local dialects (ʿāmmīya-s), between written and oral composition, performance and transmission. The paper proposes to analyze the composition of three Mamluk adab-encyclopedias and their treatment of poverty and wealth in light of the social milieus of their authors and publics.

Mais il élargit considérablement son propos dans une dénonciation de l’attitude hypocrite de la bourgeoisie et de la presse bourgeoise par rapport à la prostitution physique. Il développe pour ce faire une poétique où une pratique généralisée de l’antanaclase permet de dénoncer à la fois la presse et ses lieux communs par rapport aux prostituées.
