    Seit der kommerziellen Veröffentlichung des Internets im Jahre 1990 durch die "National Science Foundation" boomt der Markt rund um den Datenaustausch. Dieses so genannte WEB 1.0, das sich durch die zentrale Steuerung durch große Medienanstalten charakterisiert, wandelte sich im Laufe der Zeit zum Web 2.0, eine veränderte Benutzung und Wahrnehmung des Web 1.0. Die Inhalte werden seitdem nicht nur von Medienanstalten, sondern auch von unabhängigen Usern erstellt. Eine stetige Weiterentwicklung ist im vollen Gange, ein Teilbereich ist die ständig voranschreitende Integration virtueller Welten in das World Wide Web (WWW). Was auf spielerischer Ebene 1974 mit Maze War begann und sich über World of Warcraft bis hin zu Second Life entwickelte, beginnt nun für Unternehmen kommerziell nutzbar zu werden. Sind mit Second Life die Anfänge des WEB 3.0 geschaffen worden? Es stellt sich die Frage, ob eine neue Ära des Internets eingeleitet wird. Sind virtuelle Welten die Zukunft des WWW und bieten diese sich als Handelsplattform an? Diese Fragen werden mit Hilfe dieser Studie beantwortet werden. Der erste theoretische Teil dieses Buches beschäftigt sich mit der Geschichte des Internets, führt in die Strukturen virtueller Welten ein und schafft ein Grundverständnis in Bezug auf deren Wirkungsweisen. Ebenfalls werden die geschichtliche Entwicklung des Internets und die der virtuellen Welten erläutert und zusammengeführt. Eine Unterscheidung sowohl der verschieden Anwendertypen als auch der verschieden Ausprägungen virtueller Welten wird durchgeführt. Basierend auf den im theoretischen Teil gewonnenen Informationen analysiert der zweite Teil Second Life (SL) spezifisch. Hierbei werden Gemeinsamkeiten und Abgrenzungskriterien von SL im Bezug zu anderen VWen herausgearbeitet. Die darauf folgende SWOT-Analyse erörtert die Stärken und Schwächen der SL-Plattform und kombiniert sie mit den Chancen und Risiken, die das komplette Umfeld bietet. Die daraus resultierenden Geschäftsideen/-ansätze werden weiterführend auf den Stakeholderkompass übertragen, um die Auswirkungen auf die verschieden Anspruchsgruppen eines Unternehmens zu erörtern und zu analysieren. Das daran anschließende Fazit beantwortet die Leitfrage: Ist es attraktiv für Unternehmen, in einem möglichst frühen Stadium der Integration virtueller Welten im Internet einen Onlineauftritt zu starten, oder sollte besser abgewartet werden, wie erfolgreich sich die einzelnen virtuellen Welten integrieren?

    Biographical note: Walter Haug, verstorben und Ulrich Barton, Universität Tübingen. Der Band versammelt 29 Aufsätze aus Walter Haugs letzten Lebensjahren, insbesondere literaturtheoretische und philosophiegeschichtliche Arbeiten zum höfischen Roman und zur Mystik, die unter dem Aspekt der Negativität eng zusammengeführt werden. Er umfasst darüber hinaus Arbeiten zur Heldenepik, Märendichtung u.v.m. und erlaubt zuletzt, über sechs Reden und Nachrufe, einen sehr persönlichen Blick auf den Wissenschaftler und Menschen Walter Haug. The volume contains a collection of 29 articles from the last years of Walter Haug's life, in particular theoretical literary and historical philosophical studies on the courtly romance and on mysticism, which are drawn closely together from the aspect of negativity. In addition, it includes texts on the heroic epic, Märendichtung (medieval fables) and many others, and through six speeches and tributes affords a very personal insight into Walter Haug as a scholar and as a man.

On over 130 Swedish rune-stones of the Viking period, a depiction of a quadruped appears beside the memorial inscription. The wild animal is a lion or a wolf that is sometimes bound.Sigmund Oehrlassociates the motif with the binding of the wolf Fenrir and the banishment of the Hellhound by Christ and evaluates it against the background of the expectation of the end of the world and the strategy of missions. Untersucht werden ‚Erzählkerne’, d.h. wiederkehrende Kombinationen bestimmter Themen und Probleme mit Erzählmustern, die für die höfische und heroische volkssprachige Epik in Deutschland um 1200 charakteristisch sind. Ausgewählt sind Erzählkonstellationen, die das Verhältnis des Einzelnen zu seiner Herkunft und zu profanen bzw. religiösen Gemeinschaften betreffen, die das Spiel mit seinem Namen und das Verhältnis zu sich selbst inszenieren, die Beziehungen und Abgrenzungen zwischen den Sphären der Öffentlichkeit bzw. des Inneren durchspielen und schließlich solche, die das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Allianz, Minne und Passion austragen. The subject of the book is the relationship between literary imagination and the mindscape of aristocratic culture in the high Middle Ages. The study focuses on "narrative kernels," i.e. recurrent combinations of themes and problems displaying narrative patterns characteristic of courtly and heroic vernacular epics in Germany around 1200. The narrative constellations selected for investigation (a) revolve around the relationship of individuals to their origins and to profane and/or religious communities, (b) enact play with individuals' names and their relationship to themselves, (c) rehearse the relations and demarcations between different spheres of public and/or inner life, and (d) reflect the tensions between alliance, courtly love, and passion. Novel Characters argues that the novel is the literary form best suited to create characters of real, often troubling distinction, and that indeed it has a generic disposition, amounting to an obligation, to do so. DiBattista proposes a way of understanding what is distinctive about novelistic character as well as offering a discussion of how different cultures and times think about human identity. Novel Characters ranges from the "birth of the novel" in Don Quixote through the works of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and concludes by considering today's most influential international fiction.
