Die Zeitschrift wird von der deutschen Abteilung der FFLCH-USP (Universität São Paulo) seit 1997 herausgegeben und will zur Verbreitung unveröffentlichter Forschungen von GermanistInnen aus Brasilien und anderen Ländern, sowie zur Förderung des Dialogs zwischen der Germanistik und anderen Wissensbereichen beitragen.

    The relevance of the work and the influence of Franz Rosenzweig, a German Jewish philosopher of the beginning of the last century; are still to get the appreciation they deserve. Rosenzweig was the author of one of the greatest – and less read – books of the 20th century, "The Star of Redemption", where he develops his philosophical system mainly on basis of theological categories. To the "monologue of the I" of mainstream philosophy, Rosenzweig opposes a "new thinking", of existential character, which values orality and the "other", and where language substitutes reason as a tool for thought. In it one can find some correspondences with the thought of Walter Benjamin. This "new thinking", also, strongly influenced Emmanuel Levinas and nowadays bears its fruits within "linguistic turn" philosophy and theology, and post-modern Jewish thought. This philosophy found in Rosenzweig's work in translation one of its main practical applications. To translate was for Rosenzweig a necessity, emanating from an ethics constituted as "first philosophy". This article examines some aspects of Rosenzweig's writings from where his "philosophy of translation" is made explicit. ; Die Bedeutung und der Einfluss des Werkes von Franz Rosenzweig, jüdisch-deutscher Philosoph vom Beginn des vergangenen Jahrhunderts, werden noch immer nicht angemessen gewürdigt. Rosenzweig entwickelt in seinem Hauptwerk, der "Stern der Erlösung", ausgehend von eminent theologischen Kategorien, sein philosophisches System. Dem "Monolog des Ich" der traditionellen Philosophie setzt Rosenzweig ein "Neues Denken" von existenzialistischem Gepräge entgegen, das die Mündlichkeit und den Dialog mit dem "Anderen" aufwertet und den Verstand als Werkzeug der Reflexion ersetzt. Dieses Denken weist Korrespondenzen zur Philosophie W. Benjamins auf. Das "Neue Denken" übte einen starken Einfluss auf E. Levinas aus, sowie auf zahlreiche interessante philosophische und theologische Ansätze nach dem "Iinguistic turn" und auf die postmoderne jüdische Geistigkeit. ...

    In Hoffmann’s tales, visual references and optical devices play an important role as thematic and structural components. This article will analyze this subject in a historical context where the social differentiation and the optical media result in a questioning of observation and perspective. Hoffmann’s writing may therefore be conceived, at least partially, through his position towards visibility. This paper will first provide a general look at the interrelations between Hoffmann’ s texts and certain painting styles and then take a closer look at “The Sandman” as a keywork for romantic perspectivism.

    German immigration to Brazil starts in the 19th century. In Brazil, the German Immigration Literature has already been a subject of many studies. Nevertheless, what was produced in Germany during the period of the great emigration by the land people of these emigrates is still unknown by the Brazilian people and also by the German folk. This article shows the results of a careful bibliographic research, that was made in German libraries and archives. In this article there is an important work: one narrative from Amalia Schoppe, Die Auswanderer nach Brasilien oder die Hütte am Gigitonhonha. They present interesting aspects about Brazil and about Germany at the e(im)migation context in the 19th century.

    This article conceives the avant-garde as a form of art that emerges out of the experience with technical progress, city life and new patterns of perception and that succeeded in transforming multiple perspective and simultaneity of urban life into a central principle for their production. Analyzed are the European avant-gardes as well as their influences on Brazilian literature and painting in the 20s. Furthermore we take a look at concrete poetry of the 50's as a literary pendant to architectonic concepts of cities like São Paulo and Brasília. ; Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit der Avantgarde als Kunstform, die sich aus der Auseinandersetzung mit technischem Fortschritt, Stadterfahrung und neuen Wahrnehmungsmustern formiert und die Multiperspektivität und Simultanität des urbanen Lebens als ein zentrales Prinzip für ihre Werke nutzt. Untersucht werden sowohl die europäischen Avantgardisten wie auch ihr Einfluss auf Literatur und Malerei Brasiliens in den 20er Jahren. Ein weiterer Teil widmet sich der konkreten Poesie als literarisches Pendant zu architektonischen Konzepten von Städten wie São Paulo und Brasília.

    The opposition city-country which appears already in Vergils Georgics and becomes very relevant in the British and French poetry of the 18th and 19th centuries, will be treated at first with regard to the German tradition of 'city-poetry'. Since about 1900 the phenomenon of the big city (metropolis) combines with demoniac and sublime motives, while French, English or American authors (Baudelaire, Wordsworth, Whitman) saw the city from a less ideological perspective. Only in the postwar-decade – after some anticipations by authors of Expressionism like Ernst Stadler or Gottfried Benn – the pluralistic, hybrid character of the city will be discovered also in German poetology. Some examples of Modern North American and Brazilian poetry will be analyzed in the last chapter of the article. ; Ausgehend vom Stadt-Land-Gegensatz, der schon in Vergils Georgica beobachtbar ist und dann in der englischen und französischen Lyrik des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts eine wichtige Rolle spielt, richtet sich der Blick zunächst auf die deutsche Tradition der 'Großstadtlyrik' . Hier läßt sich seit etwa 1900 von einem zunächst teils dämonisierenden, teils von Motiven des Erhabenen geprägten Umgang mit dem Phänomen Metropole sprechen, während französische, englische oder amerikanische Autoren (Wordsworth, Whitman, Baudelaire) bereits einen weniger ideologischen Umgang mit der neuen Urbanität pflegen. Erst in der Nachkriegszeit, vorbereitet durch expressionistische Autoren wie Ernst Stadler oder später Benn, wird auch in der deutschsprachigen Poetologie der plurale, hybride Charakter der Großstadt entdeckt. Den Abschluß bilden Beispiele aus der nordamerikanischen und der brasilianischen Lyrik.

    The poem "Zurich, zum Storchen" by Paul Celan is often read as a document on the tension between Celan and Nelly Sachs, which resulted particularly from their different attitudes to the Shoah. However if the poem is read in connection with the cycle "Die Niemandsrose" and with Celan’s poetological thinking at this time, Celan’s opposite standpoint means much more than a theological discussion: it serves for the affirmation of human presence. ; Das Gedicht "Zürich, zum Storchen" von Paul Celan wird oft als Zeugnis der Spannung zwischen ihm und Nelly Sachs gelesen, die vor allem durch die verschiedenen Einstellungen bezüglich der Schoah entstanden ist. Wird aber das Gedicht im Zusammenhang mit dem Zyklus "Die Niemandsrose" und mit der poetologischen Reflexion gelesen, die Celan zu dieser Zeit beschäftigte, dann geht Celans Gegenposition weit über eine theologische Diskussion hinaus: Sie gilt der Behauptung der menschlichen Präsenz.

    The article traces the development of Günter Grass's work with special emphasis on his reception in Germany and his being awarded the Nobel Prize. It shows how Grass employs traditional narrative strategies, particularly that of the fairy-tale, and how he represents the recent German past in figures of the unreal. By these means his texts are able to show the grotesqueness of historical reality in the 20th century. ; Der Artikel verfolgt die Entwicklung des Werks von Günter Grass mit Blick auf die Rezeption in Deutschland und die Vergabe des Nobelpreises. Es wird gezeigt, dass Grass traditionelle Erzählstrategien – z. B. die des Märchens – gebraucht, um im Gestus des scheinbar Irrealen das Groteske der historischen Realität im 20. Jahrhundert herauszustellen.

    This article takes a new look at the novels of the Austrian Jewish writer Adolf Dessauer (1849-1916). Dessauer wrote an ironic chronicle of his contemporaries' world in turn-of-the-century Vienna. A banker by profession and an amateur novelist, he published two novels in his lifetime ("Götzendienst", in 1896, and "Großstadtjuden", in 1910), both taking place in the Habsburg capital, which was then undergoing a process of rapid economic and social change. Though his books are nowadays virtually forgotten, Dessauer was a very accurate chronicler of the customs of the social class which ascended with economic liberalism, and which became increasingly close to the empire's declining aristocracy, mimicking its tastes and habits. As opposed to what happened in other European nations, the bourgeoisie in the Habsburg Empire never attempted to construct its own aesthetic and cultural repertoire, but consistently imitated the aristocratic patterns of its time. Dessauer makes a biting and ironical portrait of this class and its attempt at aristocratic appearances. He also shows how Karl Lueger's Christian anti-Semitic party in Austria recruited its voters from the impoverished class of artisans, which had lost space as a consequence of the establishment of a new economic order. Lueger's political campaign was directed towards this growing class, and he identified the rise of liberal capitalism with Jews and Judaism. In "Großstadtjuden" Dessauer looks at the same phenomena, but does so from a strictly Jewish point of view. His second novel portrays the reactions of a number of Jewish families from Vienna to rising anti-Semitism. This historical aspect of the Viennese Jewish community, which was Europe's numerically largest after Warsaw's, is a striking prelude to the history of European Jewry in the 20th.century, thus giving Dessauer's work an unexpected afterlife. ; Dieser Artikel behandelt den österreichischen Autor Adolf Dessauer (1849-1916), einen Chronisten der Wiener Sitten der Wende vom 19. zum 20.     This article deals with experimentation in contemporary German theatre, making a survey of experimental elements in German and Brazilian stagings, particularly of Shakespearean texts, which took place from 1990 to the present. The survey has been based on the analysis of reviews published in newspapers and magazines in both countries, and also on video recordings of two German and one Brazilian stagings. The article describes the concepts of experimentation and convention developed in the study, presents the results of the research and discusses the appropriation of these elements, especially the experimental ones, in the contemporary Brazilian and German Theater. ; Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit den experimentellen Aspekten des deutschen Theaters der Gegenwart. Ziel der Untersuchung war zunächst eine Aufstellung von experimentellen Elementen in deutschen und brasilianischen Inszenierungen seit 1990, insbesondere von Shakespeare-Stücken. Mit den Daten dieser Aufstellung wurde ein Vergleich und eine Analyse der Inszenierungen in beiden Ländern durchgeführt. Die Aufstellung wurde realisiert mit Hilfe von Rezensionen, die in Zeitungen und Zeitschriften in Brasilien und Deutschland veröffentlicht wurden, und ergänzt durch eigene Beobachtungen zu Videoaufzeichnungen von zwei deutschen und einer brasilianischen Inszenierung. Der Beitrag beschreibt die Begriffe des "Experimentellen" und der "Konvention", wie sie in der Untersuchung entwickelt wurden. Er stellt die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung vor und reflektiert die Eignung dieser Begriffe, besonders des Experimentellen, im Gegenwartstheater in Brasilien und Deutschland.

    Abstract: Este artigo apresenta uma pesquisa sobre os processos de formação de palavra na LIBRAS. Os parâmetros (configuração de mão, direcionalidade, ponto de articulação movimento, localização, expressões faciais e corporais), que também podem ser morfemas, compõem sistemas complexos de desinências que estabelecem tipos de flexão verbais: concordância para gênero, para pessoa do discurso e para locativo, ou são afixos que se justapõem à raiz verbal ou nominal. Portanto, em relação aos seus processos de formação de palavra, a Libras é uma língua flexional, embora tenha também características de língua aglutinante, que podem ser percebidas a partir da formação de sinais pelos processos de composição e incorporação

    Abstract: Este artigo traz trechos da biografia do abade l'Epée, escrita por um professor surdo do Instituto para surdos de Paris, Ferdinand Berthier, em 1840. Apesar de enaltecer a figura do abade, criador da primeira escola para surdos na França, Berthier tece críticas ao método de l'Epée, uma vez que, segundo ele, em nome do ensino da escrita correta eram realizadas deformações na linguagem de sinais, modificações que acabavam por torná-la estranha aos próprios surdos. Apesar de escrito há dois séculos o texto de Berthier traz discussões que ainda hoje estão presentes entre os educadores, nas quais o tema central é a língua a que os surdos devem ser expostos no processo educacional. A polêmica língua de sinais versus língua oral apresentava-se, naquela época, como hoje, como o centro das discussões na educação dos surdos
