    The Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh presents this beautiful bilingual Chinese/Scottish Collector's Edition of a selection of poems by Robert Burns. The volume contains eleven well-known Burns poems in English, including 'I love my Jean', 'My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose' and 'John Anderson, My Jo', together with facing-page Chinese translations. The translations, from the 1920s, are by Su Manshu, Wu Fangji, and Liu Pu and finely capture the lyric quality of Burns's poems. Each poem is introduced by an illustration page of Chinese calligraphy by Mr Chi Zhang, MSC.

    After Confucius is a collection of eight studies of Chinese philosophy from the time of Confucius to the formation of the empire in the second and third centuries B.C.E. As detailed in a masterful introduction, each essay serves as a concrete example of "thick description"--an approach invented by philosopher Gilbert Ryle--which aims to reveal the logic that informs an observable exchange among members of a community or society. To grasp the significance of such exchanges, it is necessary to investigate the networks of meaning on which they rely. Paul R. Goldin argues that the character of ancient Chinese philosophy can be appreciated only if we recognize the cultural codes underlying the circulation of ideas in that world. Thick description is the best preliminary method to determine how Chinese thinkers conceived of their own enterprise.

    This original English translation from Chinese texts comprises 60 poems (85 verses) and three prose compositions by Chen Qing Shan, a pioneer writer of Malayan-Singapore Chinese literature. It opens a window to the heart and mind of a Chinese scholar who lived from the late Qing through the 1950s, whose poems reflect on his life: personal tragedies, struggles, disappointments, as well as the joy in his family, friends, and poetry. The translators have included English explanations for many interesting expressions and allusions used in Chinese classical poetry, enabling an English language reader to enjoy the rich and colorful heritage of Chinese culture and language.

    The Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh presents this beautiful bilingual Chinese/Scottish Collector's Edition of a selection of poems by Robert Burns. The volume contains eleven well-known Burns poems in English, including 'I love my Jean', 'My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose' and 'John Anderson, My Jo', together with facing-page Chinese translations. The translations, from the 1920s, are by Su Manshu, Wu Fangji, and Liu Pu and finely capture the lyric quality of Burns's poems. Each poem is introduced by an illustration page of Chinese calligraphy by Mr Chi Zhang, MSC.
