    Der Band widmet sich Strabon, einem Geographen aus Augusteischer Zeit, der in seinem geographischen Werk zahlreiche Texte aus klassischen Tragödien und Komödien zitiert und den man als einen wichtigen Zitatträger für dramatische Texte ansehen kann. Die Monographie widmet sich einigen Fragen: Woraus zitiert Strabon? Konnte er die Texte der tragischen und komischen Dichter noch direkt lesen? Benutzte er Anthologien? Aus welcher Quelle stammen die Zitate? Mit welcher argumentativen Absicht wurden in einem geographischen Handbuch Verse aus dramatischen Texten angeführt? Die Untersuchung dieser Fragen versucht, zu der dramatischen Fragmentforschung sowie der literarische Kunst Strabons beizutragen. This volume focuses on quotations from dramatic works, both tragedies and comedies, in Strabo’s ‘Geography’. It presents a comprehensive catalogue of these citations and an analysis of their features and possible related textual and content-based issues; it explores Strabo’s role in the indirect transmission of ancient texts alongside the possible sources on which he draws, be these ancient editions of the plays or florilegia. Lastly, the study assesses the use of dramatic quotations in the specific contexts in which they occur, thus casting more light on the function of each quotation and Strabo’s literary art.

Accomuna i diversi saggi l’intenzione di indagare la pratica del tradurre nella sua complessità culturale (in quanto attività di (re)interpretazione dei testi di partenza), e di analizzarne i risvolti sociali all’interno di un più ampio quadro di circolazione e di distribuzione dei saperi. In questo senso, assume un ruolo centrale lo studio dei volgarizzamenti delle opere cosiddette "moderne", che pongono dei problemi diversi rispetto ai volgarizzamenti dei classici, e permettono di tracciare un quadro più esaustivo in termini di rappresentatività, affiancando alla letteratura laica quella religiosa. Apre il volume una ampia introduzione sulla pratica del tradurre in Toscana, seguita da cinque sezioni, incentrate rispettivamente sulla tradizione provenzale e francese, sul rapporto tra canone e volgarizzamenti, sulla storia sociale del volgarizzare, sulla distribuzione dei saperi e delle lingue, e, infine, sul periodo umanistico e la lingua del potere, tra Roma e Firenze The contributions gathered in this volume discuss the complex topic of translating in medieval Italy from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining the philological approach with a detailed social and cultural analysis.     Ziel des Buchs ist es, den religiösen Aspekt der Kritik von Aristophanes an den Tragödien des Euripides, die in den “Thesmophoriazusen” und den “Fröschen” spürbar ist, zu besprechen und eine vergleichende Studie über die Religiosität beider Autoren zu liefern. Die Tragödien des Euripides, die Aristophanes parodiert oder auf die er bloß anspielt, scheinen ganz besonders für die Gedanken des Euripides über die Religion repräsentativ zu sein, insbesondere für sein bestimmtes Interesse an 'fremden' Kulten (wie denen von Dionysos oder der Mutter der Götter) und an der Orphik. Im Gegensatz zum wissenschaftlichen Konsens ist der Euripides des Aristophanes also kein von sophistischen Theorien durchdrungener Atheist, sondern der Verfechter einer alternativen Form der Religiosität. Vor dem Hintergrund der seltsamen Kulte des Euripides betont Aristophanes seine eigene Religiosität, die tief in den Traditionen der athenischen Polis verwurzelt ist: Der Sieg des Aischylos im poetischen Agon der “Frösche” ist auch der Sieg der Mysterien von Eleusis über die exotischen und unorthodoxen Überzeugungen des Euripides. The aim of the book is to discuss the religious aspect of Aristophanes’ criticism of euripidean tragedy as found in “Thesmophoriazusae” and “Frogs” and to provide a comparative study of Aristophanes’ and Euripides’ religiosity. Euripides’ tragedies which Aristophanes parodies (or simply hints at) seem to be all especially representative of Euripides’ thoughts about religion, in particular of his peculiar interest in ‘foreign’ cults (such as those of Dionysus or of the Mother of Gods) and in Orphism. Contrary to scholarly consensus, then, Aristophanes’ Euripides is not an atheist imbued with sophistic theories: rather, he emerges as the champion of an alternative form of religiosity. Against the backdrop of Euripides’ strange cults, Aristophanes emphasizes his own religiosity, deeply rooted in the traditions of the Athenian polis: Aeschylus’ victory in the poetic agon of the “Frogs” is also the victory of the Mysteries of Eleusis over Euripides’ exotic and unorthodox beliefs.

    The volume draws attention to some elements of ambiguity in the Italian Petrarchism of the 16th century, with insights also into the early 17th century. In particular, the book analyses: the debate on some contradictory or at least problematic aspects of Petrarch’s statements on love; the tension between literary artificiality and ostentation of sincerity in love letters; the ambiguity between sacred and profane in the encomiastic field, with special reference to the metaphor of the ‘temple’ in the so-called ‘temples of poems’. The path here proposed offers an idea of Petrarchism as a phenomenon less rigid and stereotyped than usually perceived. Its ambiguities or even contradictions can be subjects of debate, without necessarily taking the path of anti-petrarchism and parodic deformation

    Seit Hesiod und im Lauf der Geschichte der griechischen Literatur stellten idyllische Orte den Hintergrund für poetische Einsetzungen und Momente der Selbstreflexion dar, in denen Autoren Literaturgattungen hinterfragen, verbessern, erneut ergründen oder sogar neu begründen. Dies gilt vor allem für poetische Gattungen, da mehrere Dichter die Erzählung des Helikon-Gebirges hinterfragen, um ihre eigenen Werke definieren und ihre eigenen Ansichten etablieren zu können. Das gilt aber auch für Gattungen der Prosa, spätestens mit Phaedrus von Platon, dessen Setting – der locus amoenus des Flusses Ilisos – seinen Nachhall in den Werken mehrerer späterer Schriftsteller wiederfindet. Sich dem Diskurs über die Darstellung von Raum in der antiken Literatur anschließend, bietet der Band sieben Aufsätze zur spezifischen Verbindung zwischen Ortsbeschreibungen und der (Neu-)Gründung griechischer Literaturgattungen. Since Hesiod and throughout the history of Greek literature, idyllic places have often furnished the setting to poetical investitures and, more in general, to self-reflective moments in which authors question, correct, refound and even create literary genres. This is above all true for poetic genres, since several poets challenge the Hesiodic episode of Mount Helicon in order to define their own creations and produce their own manifestos, but it also applies to prose genres, starting at least with Plato’s Phaedrus, whose setting in the locus amoenus of the Ilissos River resonates in the works of several later writers. Joining the recent debate on the representation of space in ancient literature, this volume offers seven essays on the specific connection between the description of places and the renewal/foundation of Greek literary genres.

Questo lavoro s'inserisce nell'attuale tendenza degli studi classici a dedicare particolare attenzione a testi frammentari. Sebbene le tragedie di Agatone risultino dimenticate già in epoca antica, sembra che in ambito tragico egli sia stato un autore di successo, nonché d'avanguardia. Il contributo più importante che diede alla storia del teatro fu la sostituzione delle parti corali tradizionali con intermezzi del tutto slegati rispetto al contenuto della trama. L'analisi svolge un'indagine quanto più possibile completa intorno a una figura determinante del genere tragico e pone le basi per una più profonda comprensione delle trasformazioni del teatro tra il V e il IV secolo a.C.     Seit dem Erscheinen von "Mimesis. Dargestellte Wirklichkeit in der abendländischen Literatur" im Jahr 1946 ist Erich Auerbach (1892-1957) als Klassiker der Geisteswissenschaften bekannt. Die Entstehung des Buches im Istanbuler Exil ohne westliche Bibliotheken ist legendär. Weniger bekannt sind seine luziden Essays und detailreichen Studien zur romanischen Philologie, die Gustav Konrad und Fritz Schalk posthum - ergänzt um wichtige Rezensionen - herausbrachten. Methodisch stand der deutsch-jüdische Gelehrte sowohl der Frankfurter Literatursoziologie seines Freundes Walter Benjamin nahe als auch der hermeneutischen Tradition an der Universität Marburg; zudem gibt es Nähen zur Ikonographie der Warburg Schule. Das Nachwort gibt im wissenschaftshistorischen Rahmen eine Skizze von Erich Auerbach als Kulturphilosophen im Exil, der eine vieldeutige wie außergewöhnliche Position zwischen jüdischen, christlichen und säkularen Traditionen des Denkens einnimmt. Die Neuausgabe der "Gesammelten Aufsätze" wurde um vier Arbeiten werkgeschichtlich ergänzt. Eine von ihnen, "Vicos Auseinandersetzung mit Descartes", galt bislang als verschollen und wurde erst kürzlich gefunden. Eine ausführliche Bibliographie schließt Lücken der Primärliteratur

    The volume draws attention to some elements of ambiguity in the Italian Petrarchism of the 16th century, with insights also into the early 17th century. In particular, the book analyses: the debate on some contradictory or at least problematic aspects of Petrarch’s statements on love; the tension between literary artificiality and ostentation of sincerity in love letters; the ambiguity between sacred and profane in the encomiastic field, with special reference to the metaphor of the ‘temple’ in the so-called ‘temples of poems’. The path here proposed offers an idea of Petrarchism as a phenomenon less rigid and stereotyped than usually perceived. Its ambiguities or even contradictions can be subjects of debate, without necessarily taking the path of anti-petrarchism and parodic deformation.

    The second volume dedicated to the 42nd International Conference of the Unione Italiana per il Disegno takes up the theme of 'Connecting' in reflecting on the topic Drawing: Languages, Distances, Technologies, also suggested by the remote condition that made it impossible for us to meet physically, and prompted and relaunched the conference itself. Languages, distances, technologies lead us to constantly review the dynamics that regulate the connections with drawing, and the historical and social context that in the last year and a half has characterized it. Drawing and visual Languages seen in the light of the multiple articulations that derive from them. Like a metaphor for language, drawing alludes, illudes, reveals and deceives. Drawing and Distances brings us to the practices of surveying, but also to the meaning of the word distancing, with all that it implies, to help us overcome the insurmountable physical separateness. Drawing and Technologies leads to the evidence of the digital world, viewed in its implications with the different sciences, transforming the computer from an instrument of calculation into an expressive source of communication, even artistic, for the development of a new digital aesthetic. In this volume, disciplines are intertwined, and even research sectors: a perfect path of contamination in which very different competencies come into play. And thus these three words, 'languages', 'distances', 'technologies', create a perfect circle that, rotating around drawing in a synchronous and often overlapping way, resumes and relaunches connections for creating new and ancient drawings.

    The progressive ageing of the global population is on the one hand a goal of today's society, and at the same time one of the main socio-economic problems of health and pension systems. The transition from hospitalization to home treatment seems to be a first concrete response. The main reasons that push towards the strengthening of home care are also favoured by new technologies applied to health care that aim to contain public spending, through the implementation of innovative services, including medical devices to use at home. At the same time, the increase in risk conditions caused by the complexity of hospital care requires greater attention and immediate intervention, as represented by a study conducted by two researchers at John Hopkins University, who have shown that medical errors are the third leading cause of mortality in America. This volume is addressed to designers, students of Design courses and all those who address the disciplines of the project. To give them a better understanding of the theoretical-practical course described in the book, this has been divided into two parts. The first part, theory, is dedicated to the description of the current scenario in its multiple aspects - diverging phase -, aimed at defining two design strategies that can be used during the development process of a medical product, both for hospital and home use - converging phase -, as described in the second part, dedicated to practice and experimentation.

    The book examines the private palaces in the Duchy of Milan during the Sforza era, designed and built between Ludovico il Moro's seizure of power in 1480 and the first quarter of the following century. The result is a catalogue of examples that are essential for understanding the development of the typology and the emergence of a new housing model capable of including, among its functions, that of representing, by fixing it in a building, the social, political and cultural role of the client. Extensive chapters are devoted to the individual palazzi, which we can recognise - in the famous expression of Pietro Aretino - as "modernly ancient and antiquely modern". These chapters analyse them from various perspectives and lead to the identification of an innovative line in Lombard art, not only through examples in Milan, but also with precise verifications in Pavia, Piacenza, Lodi, Cremona, Crema and Vigevano, in parallel with what was happening in Florence or Venice, in Mantua or Ferrara and finally, at a slightly later date, in Rome. Through the analysis of the general advancement of architectural culture as a whole and of the interconnections between building sites, craftsmen and linguistic inventions, the range of architectures considered widens considerably to include some crucial religious buildings and, subsequently, several Roman palaces, where the descent of the "Lombards" - from Bramante from Urbino, by then integrated in Milanese cultural circles, to Bramantino and Cristoforo Solari - paved the way for decisive and critically inescapable exchanges.

    Sl Se c’è una cosa che abbiamo sempre, letteralmente, sotto il naso, è lo smartphone. Ed è normale credere, dunque, che sappiamo cosa sia. Ma è davvero così? Per scoprirlo, 11 antropologi hanno trascorso 16 mesi in varie comunità in Africa, Asia, Europa e Sud America per osservare il modo in cui gli anziani utilizzano lo smartphone, e la loro ricerca ha rivelato che si tratta di una tecnologia rivolta a tutti, non solo ai giovani. Lo Smartphone Globale presenta i risultati frutto di questo progetto di ricerca comparativa di respiro globale. Gli smartphone sono diventati tanto un luogo in cui viviamo, quanto un dispositivo di ‘opportunismo perpetuo’ da cui non ci separiamo mai. Gli autori hanno dimostrato che lo smartphone è molto più di un ‘contenitore di app’, concentrandosi sulle differenze tra ciò che le persone dicono sugli smartphone e il modo in cui li usano. Nessun dispositivo aveva mai raggiunto un tale livello di ‘trasformabilità’ – trasformabilità che si concretizza nella capacità di assimilare rapidamente i nostri valori personali. Per poterlo comprendere, dunque, dobbiamo tener presente un’ampia gamma di sfumature nazionali e culturali, quali la comunicazione visiva in Cina e Giappone, i trasferimenti di denaro sotto forma di credito telefonico in Camerun e in Uganda, e l’accesso a informazioni mediche in Cina e Irlanda, oltre alle diverse traiettorie della terza età ad Al Quds, in Brasile e in Italia. Solo allora potremo sapere davvero cos’è uno smartphone e capire appieno l’impatto che ha sulla vita delle persone in tutto il mondo.
