    In Shīʿī literature, there exist several texts containing the last will ( waṣiyya ) of ʿAlī born Abī Ṭālib, son-in-law of the Prophet and, in Shīʿism, his rightful successor. These last wishes were addressed to his sons Ḥasan and Ḥusayn and to the Muslim community at large. Transmitted through various sources, they are important insofar as each of them, in its own way, justifies the Shīʿī view on ʿAlī’s succession after he was murdered in Kufa in the year 40/661. This volume contains two Persian versions—one in verse, the other in prose—of ʿAlī’s last will and injunctions addressed to Ḥusayn, the third imam. The original Arabic prose text has come down to us through various ancient sources, the oldest one dating from the fourth/tenth century. The Persian translation in verse was made by the poet Sayyid Ḥasan Ghaznawī (d. 556/1161), the prose version possibly around 910/1504 by a scribe named Muʿīn al-Dīn Munshī Shīrāzi

    This is a collection of poems, mostly ghazals, by the otherwise little-known 10th/16th century poet Fahmī Astarābādī. All that the available sources tell us about him is that he was talented and intelligent, that (as a young man?) he went to India, that he earned a living in business, and that he died in Delhi. Thanks to the research of the editor of his divan, we now know somewhat more. First, that Fahmī spent a certain time in the entourage of Rustam Rūzafzūn (d. 917/1511), ruler of Mazandaran and that he also wrote poetry in praise of some of the other members of that family; that he lived in Yazd for two years and lost his fortune there, returning broke to Mazandaran; that he travelled to Najaf, Mecca and Mashhad; and that he was in India when Sultan Bābur died in 937/1530. Alive in 948/1541, is not known when or where he passed away

    In Persian literature, tadhkira (‘note’, ‘memorandum’) works are for the most part collections of biographies of poets, combined with selections from their writings. The earliest such work is Dawlatshāh Samarqandī’s Tadhkirat al-shuʿarāʾ (completed in 892/1487), which set a standard for posterity. The tadhkira genre was especially popular in the 10th/16th century and following. The present work by Taqī al-Dīn Awḥadī (alive in 1042/1632-33) is a good example of this. Born in Isfahan in 973/1565, as a young man his poetical talent was commended by, among others, the poet ʿUrfī Shīrāzī (d. 999/1591). After some time in the entourage of Shāh ʿAbbās I and a six-year stay in Iraq, he left Persia to try his luck at one of the courts in India. The present work, completed in 1024/1615, was written for a high official at the court of Jahāngīr. It contains about 3500 entries on Persian poets from the earliest times until his own day

Thomas Manns Doktor Faustus ist in vielerlei Hinsicht ein breit erforschtes Werk, jedoch nicht in Bezug auf seine Vertonungen. Der Vergleich zwischen Roman und Komposition ist im Forschungsparadigma der Intermedialität angesiedelt und ermöglicht die Rekonstruktion der kompositorischen Rezeptionsgeschichte von Doktor Faustus. Die Rückkopplungseffekte zwischen Text und Musik lassen Thomas Manns Roman neu lesen. Die Autorin, Dr. Anna Maria Olivari ist Akademische Rätin auf Zeit am Lehrstuhl für neuere und neueste deutsche Literatur mit dem Schwerpunkt Gender und Diversität der Technischen Universität Dortmund. Ihre wissenschaftlichen Schwerpunkte liegen in der Musikliteraturforschung sowie in der Intersektionalitäts- und Diversitätsforschung. .

    Mit besonderem Bezug auf die Werke von Ulrich Oevermann und Fritz Schütze wird eine dichte Grundlegung der Logik rekonstruktiver Sozialforschung aus der Perspektive einer strukturalen Hermeneutik skizziert. Dabei werden vor allem auch die sozialontologischen Voraussetzungen dieser Methodologie dargelegt. Die erkenntnis- und wissenschaftstheoretischen Hintergründe ansprechend, werden die methodologischen Konturen und die Forschungsfragestellung dieser Richtung rekonstruktiver Sozialforschung mit Blick auf die spezifische Theorie des Subjekts und dessen Stellung in der Welt herausgearbeitet. Dabei kommen Strukturalismus und Hermeneutik zur Synthese. Soziologie kommt hierbei nicht ohne Psychoanalyse innerer Arbeitsapparate des Menschen aus. With special reference to the works of Ulrich Oevermann and Fritz Schütze, this book outlines the dense foundations of the logic of reconstructive social research from the perspective of structural hermeneutics. In this context, the author’s explanations focus on the social ontological prerequisites of the aforementioned methodology. Against the background of aspects of knowledge theory and science theory, the study emphasises the appropriate theory of the embedded subject in relation to the world around it and, in doing so, synthesises structuralism and hermeneutics. In this context, sociological theory cannot be appropriately understood without psychoanalysis of the deep mechanisms of the intra-individual work apparatus.

The present book deals with Sarah Kane’s dramatic text Cleansed to show a specific negotiation of violence, pain, life and death – one that is not necessarily causal or dichotomous. Instead, a new mode of reading, based on Bruno Latour’s take on Actor-Network-Theory, helps to make fictional worlds simultaneously intelligible in a mediate and in an immediate way. This results in an unprecedented understanding of how language can influence and modify ontological configurations. Eventually, this allows for a re-evaluation of political problems that occur in the 20th and 21st century. About the author Eric Baudner studied English and German studies at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. The present work was finished with the help of a scholarship within the DFG post graduate program “Materiality and Production”.

Die Aktualität der Produktsprache, auch als wesentlicher Bestandteil der Lehre im Design, wird von Designer*innen und Designtheoretiker*innen diskutiert. Seine komparatistisch angelegte Studie macht deutlich, welche Bedeutung dem Buchstaben in hermeneutischen und psychoanalytischen Deutungsprozessen, Gedichten und Übersetzungen sowie dem modernen Roman zukommt. Dies zeigt sich nicht nur in der Hermeneutik von Friedrich Schleiermacher bis zu Sigmund Freud, sondern vor allem in der Literatur der Moderne, so bei Friedrich Hölderlin und Paul Celan, aber auch bei Vladimir Nabokov und Thomas Pynchon. Der Raum zwischen Buchstabe und Geist erweist sich hier als ein Ort der Interaktion, an dem das Leben des Geistes nur zum Ausdruck kommt, wenn es den Buchstaben anerkennt und an seinem eigenen Leben partizipieren lässt

Love in Contemporary British Drama reflects the appeal of love as a topic and driving force in dramatic works with in-depth analyses of eight pivotal plays from the past three decades.Following an interdisciplinary and historical approach, the study collects and condenses theories of love from philosophy and sociology to derive persisting discourses and to examine their reoccurrence and transformation in contemporary plays. Special emphasis is put on narratives of love’s compensatory function and precariousness and on how modifications of these narratives epitomise the peculiarities of emotional life in the social and cultural context of the present.Based on the assumption that drama is especially inclined to draw on shared narratives for representations of love, the book demonstrates that love is both a window to remnants of the past in the present and a proper subject matter for drama in times in which the suitability of the dramatic form has been questioned
