    Das wissenschaftliche Interesse galt bisher fast ausschließlich der Romanschriftstellerin Madeleine de Scudéry, der Preziösen und ihrem literarischen Salon. Mit diesem Band wird eine nahezu vollständige Sammlung ihres lyrischen Werks vorgelegt und die Autorin in ihren unterschiedlichen Funktionen als Panegyrikin, Liebeslyrikerin, Salon- und Gelegenheitsdichterin vorgestellt. - Ausgehend von unterschiedlichen Selbstbestimmungsversuchen intellektueller Frauen im Grand Siècle, ihren begrenzten Entfaltungsmöglichkeiten innerhalb des Kulturbetriebs, ihrer condition féminine zwischen Selbstbewußtsein und Selbstverleugnung, wird die Frage nach einem 'weiblichen Schreiben' im Umkreis von Preziosität und lyrischen Gattungstraditionen gestellt. Der aus neueren Theorien (Gender Studies) entwickelte Differenzbegriff erweist sich dabei als sinnvolles Kriterium, topisches und konventionelles Textmaterial in seinen Feinstrukturen neu lesbar zu machen und individuelle Handschriften zu entdecken. Mit der Absage an den offiziellen Wertekanon und die gängigen Weiblichkeitsmodelle, aber auch der Subversion herrschender Diskurse ist die Alterität der Scudéryschen Lyrik postuliert. Die längst fällige Berücksichtigung des Beitrags der Preziösen bei der Begriffsbestimmung von préciosité und poésie précieuse läßt die bedingte Tauglichkeit dieser Etiketten erkennen und den Begriff einer poésie des précieuses notwendig erscheinen. Mit der hier vorgelegten Neudefinition der Scudéryschen Ethik und Ästhetik (dé-brutaliser) läßt sich diese poésie des précieuses auch als poésie précieuse dekonstruierende poésie dé-précieuse lesen

    Main description: Gegenstand der Arbeit ist Paul Celans Rezeption russischer Literatur, die vor allem poetologisch relevant geworden ist. Der in der Büchner-Preis-Rede zentrale Begriff der 'Begegnung' ist als Funktion dieses komplexen Rezeptionszusammenhanges zu verstehen, den die Arbeit auf der Basis von bisher unbekanntem Material aus dem Nachlass erstmals umfassend darstellt. Neben O. Mandel'stam kommen weitere wichtige Autoren in den Blick (Chlebnikov, Cvetaeva, Esenin, Majakovskij, Pasternak), mit denen sich Celan vor allem um 1960 intensiv beschäftigt hat; erstmals kommentiert und analysiert wird dabei auch die Rundfunksendung Celans über Mandel'stam

    Main description: This is a study of Paul Celan's reception of Russian literature, with special reference to works of major poetological significance for him. The term Begegnung (encounter), so central to his remarks in the speech on the occasion of the award of the Büchner Prize, needs to be seen as a function of this reception process, a process that the present work sets out to delineate for the first time in full detail, drawing upon hitherto unknown material from Celan's posthumous papers. Alongside Mandel'stam there were a number of other Russian authors that Celan was greatly preoccupied with, notably in the period around 1960 (Chlebnikov, Zvetayeva, Esenin, Mayakovsky, Pasternak).     The last of the literary genres to be incorporated into print culture, verse in the English Renaissance not only was published in anthologies, pamphlets, and folio editions, it was also circulated in manuscript. In this ground-breaking historical and cultural study of sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century lyric poetry, Marotti examines the interrelationship between the two systems of literary transmission and shows how in England manuscript and print publication together shaped the emerging institution of literature.Surveying a wide range of manuscript and print poetry of the period, Marotti outlines the different social and institutional contexts in which poems were collected and transmitted. He focuses on the two kinds of verse that were circulated more commonly in manuscript than in print-the obscene and the political-and he considers the contributions of scribes and compilers, particularly in composing "answer poetry" and other verse. Analyzing the process through which print gradually replaced manuscript as the standard medium for lyric verse, he identifies four crucial events in the history of publication in England: the appearances of Tottel's Miscellany ( (1557), Sir Philip Sidney's works in the 1590s, Ben Jonson's folio Workes (1616), and the posthumous editions of the poems of Donne and of Herbert (both 1633). Marotti also considers how certain material features of the book determined the reception of poetry, and he explores how poets attempted to establish their authority in print in relation to publishers, patrons, and readers

    The French poetry of some five centuries is here surveyed in a series of studies of the work and personality of individual poets from Villon to the present day. Each chapter is primarily concerned with establishing the literary identity' of the poet or poets with whom it deals: the work of each is outlined and related to the historical and biographical circumstances in which it was written; and its characteristics are then examined critically in terms relevant to the modern reader. Comparisons are made between different poets, and more general topics - such as the concepts of classic' and baroque' - are discussed. This book, first published in 1956, had become a standard introductory work for students of French poetry and general readers alike. For this revised edition, originally published in 1973, new chapters have been added on irregular' seventeenth-century poets and on various modern poets whose work now enables the Surrealist movement to be seen in clearer perspective. The bibliography has been revised extensively

    Spiegelman examines the theme of indolence-- both positive and negative--as it appears in the canonical work of four Romantic poets. He argues for a renewal of interest in literary formalism, aesthetics, and the pastoral genre. Wordsworth's "wise passiveness," Coleridge's "dejection" and torpor, Shelley's pastoral dolce far niente, and Keats's "delicious ... indolence" are seen as individual manifestations of a common theme. Spiegelman argues that the trope of indolence originated in the religious, philosophical, psychological, and economic discourses from the middle ages to the late eighteenth.
