    Foucaults diskurstheoretischer Ansatz hat die Auffassungen von Aufklärung und Humanismus, von Wissenschaft und Rationalität, von Wahrheit und Ethos den Prozeduren des einen Diskurses unterworfen. Das hat für kräftige Debatten über das Verhältnis von Normativität und Historizität gesorgt. Der Beitrag zeigt, inwieweit Foucaults Ansatz auf der Basis sowie als Konsequenz der kritischen Philosophie Kants erarbeitet worden ist. Diskurstheorie beruht als Aufklärungsprojekt nicht auf normativen Voraussetzungen einer vermeintlich historisch greifbaren und im Kern einheitlichen Aufklärung, sondern verortet sich im "Zeitalter der Kritik", in dem bei der Suche nach Erkenntnis immer nach den Grenzen von Erkenntnis und von Erfahrung gefragt wird: Rationale Deutungsansprüche werden streng in ihren historischen Kontexten betrachtet. Aus dieser Perspektive wird das Verhältnis Kant-Swedenborg-Oetinger betrachtet. Dabei wird deutlich, dass weiterführende Überlegungen aus den postcolonial studies, insbesondere Homi K. Bhabhas, zu noch schärferen Einsichten in die diskursiven Aushandlungsprozeduren und rezeptionellen Verhältnisse zwischen vermeintlich radikal gegensätzlichen Lehren und Personen gelangen. Auf das Verhältnis von Historiographie und Geschichtsphilosophie fällt im Sinne von Aufklärung als eines ethischen Projekts neues Licht.

    This article presents a postcolonial-ecocritical reading of the Icelandic novel Lifandilífslækur (2018) by Bergsveinn Birgisson, arguing that this work can be interpreted as a call for a revision of Iceland’s position and role in the colonial system and its legacy which we are still grappling with, especially in terms of climate change and other ecological crises. The novel places an emphasis on the effects of colonialism for Icelanders, and Iceland being a part of a power system based on the notion of man’s dominance over nature. Focusing on the role of ghosts in the novel—figures that have obvious roots in Icelandic folklore — a change in focus is noted. Ghosts that once were depicted as relics of a heathen past coexisting with medieval Christianity, and later assigned a nationalist-romantic value, are today considered as potentially important in contemporary environmental debate with its focus on social power structures and toxic hierarchies.

    Since Willi Marxsen’s break with the consensus view that the Gospel of Mark was most probably written in Rome, the question of provenance has played a crucial role in discussions of Mark’s purpose. While several researchers (most notably Dwight Peterson) have pointed out how using provenance as the hermeneutical key to Mark may involve a risk of circular reasoning, recent contributions have tied discussions of Mark’s purpose ever more tightly to the question of where the gospel was written. After outlining these recent research developments, this article argues for an alternative way of handling the question of Mark’s provenance, one that emphasizes how the major themes of Mark’s gospel touch upon longstanding issues within Second Temple Judaism, which means that a particular provenance is not needed as a hermeneutical crutch for establishing Mark’s purpose.

    Christian literary scholars and ecocritics have generally not engaged each other in sustained and productive conversation. This article therefore updates and extends Timothy J. Burbery’s 2012 call for a Christian ecocriticism by showing that ecocriticism’s recent postcolonial turn has opened new opportunities for Christian literary scholars. Ecocriticism’s heightened attention to ways that environmental problems threaten the lives and livelihoods of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people provides an opportunity for Christians to become involved in both the scholarly project of ecocriticism and in the work of advancing global environmental justice. The author holds out hope that a rigorous Christian ecocriticism could pave the way for a potent new Christian environmentalism.

    Anfänglich lediglich mit dem Anspruch gestartet, auch nicht-westliche politische Theorien in den fachwissenschaftlichen Diskurs einzubeziehen, befindet sich das Projekt einer kulturübergreifenden ‚comparative political theory‘ gegenwärtig in einer intensiven Debatte um seine heuristische und methodische Ausrichtung. In dem Artikel werden paradigmatische Positionen in dieser Debatte dargestellt und kritisch gewürdigt. Hierbei zeigt sich insbesondere, dass sowohl die besonderen Legitimitätsansprüche, die sich aus der transkulturellen Anlage des Projekts und dem Problem des Eurozentrismus ergeben, als auch die Vorstellung eines methodisch strengen Theorievergleichs zu problematischen, aber auch produktiven Annahmen führen. Es wird reflektiert, welcher heuristische Fokus welche Ergebnisse impliziert, wie mit Kultur als problematischer Referenzgröße umgegangen werden kann und welche Rolle eine transkulturelle politische Theorie im Fach einnehmen kann. Primarily concerned with the inclusion of non-Western political thought in the canon of political theory, comparative political theory is currently debating its heuristic and methodic arrangements. In this article, some paradigmatic positions on this issue are being presented and appreciated critically. Specific claims of legitimacy concerning the problem of eurocentrism as well as the notion of a rigorous comparative method lead to heuristic assumptions that are both productive and problematic. It is being reflected which implications those differing approaches have, how culture can figure as a frutiful reference and what kind of role a transcultural political theory might play in political science.
