    Unter den im Kampf gegen die Regierungstruppen von Zaire erfolgreichen Rebellen der Allianz von Laurent Kabila befand sich eine Vielzahl von sog. Mai-Mai-Kämpfern, deren legendäre Unverwundbarkeit, die sie sich in geheimen Riten angeblich erwarben, viel zur moralischen Destabilisierung der Streitkräfte Mobutus beitrugen. Die christliche Bevölkerung des nordöstlichen Kongo stand den Mai-Mai, die einerseits als Befreier begrüßt, andererseits als mit bösen Mächten verbunden gesehen wurden, äußerst zwiespältig gegenüber. Die in den christlichen Glaubensvorstellungen klar getrennten Begriffe von Gut und Böse, von Glaubenskraft und dunklen, magischen Kräften, von Gott gefällig und dem Teufel verfallen gerieten ins Wanken und bildeten den Gegenstand vielschichtiger Diskussionen über die Natur des Bösen. Unter Bezug auf alttestamentarische Beispiele wurde die Interpretation, Gott könne gewollt durch böse Kräfte Gutes tun, schließlich zur akzeptierten Kompromißformel für die meisten gläubigen Christen.     This paper reviews how rebel leaders motivate followers to fight in wars in Sub-Saharan Africa. Almost all rebel leaders do use economic incentives, but they also avail themselves of other strategies to motivate their soldiers, including political indoctrination, ethnic mobilisation and coercion. The type of incentive employed will depend primarily on the nature of the state confronted. In particular, those movements that face competent national militaries will have to evolve into viable armies while rebels fighting states that are weak and corrupt can afford to lead movements that employ coercion and pursue economic agendas.     "The figure of the guerrilla appears in digital humanities' (DH) recent history as an agent of tactical reformation. It refers to various disciplinary desires: a claim to collaborative and inclusive pedagogy, minimal and encrypted computing, and a host of political interventions such as queer politics, critical race studies, and feminist theory. Drawing out the political, ontological, and technological underpinnings of the guerrilla as a figure, this text connects popular iterations of its practice to DH's political rhetoric and infrastructure. By doing so, it reorients DH's conceptual lexicon around practices of collective becoming, mediated by claims to conflict, antagonism, and democratic will. The introduction and chapter one pair a theory-driven analysis of DH's minoritarian interventions alongside contemporary political theory by focusing on Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri's radical democratic ingresses into network theory. These chapters also explore work by thinkers formative of #transformDH like Moya Bailey, Natalia Cecire, and others. Chapters two, three, and four connect post/decolonial, feminist, and Marxist iterations of DH praxis to the aesthetic histories of actually existing guerrilla movements (Latin American Third Cinema, Black Mask's anti-representational politics, and the documentary cinema of the Black Panther Party). All three chapters balance guerrilla history and DH method by exploring their common concepts: critical/politicized acts of making, representational and anti-representational politics, and the production of the common. "Guerilla Theory's" conclusion offers a concept of digital humanities as a form of critical university studies, challenging DH's current political scope, and thus its future institutional impact."--Provided by publisher

    With their joint announcement about the desire to resume peace talks, Colombia’s new president and the country’s second-largest guerrilla group, the ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional), have sent a clear political signal. The pacification of the ELN is to take place under the aegis of a “leftist” government and be accompanied by a comprehensive and ambitious reform project. This is a renewed attempt to end the civil war following the conclusion of a peace agreement with the FARC rebels in 2016. However, the agreement with the FARC can serve as a blueprint only to a limited extent, not just because of the different historical origins of the two guerrilla groups but also owing to the strongly decentralized internal structure of the ELN. The issues of a cease­fire and the release of prisoners - prerequisites for possible peace talks - remain unresolved. Lengthy negotiations lie ahead, and the involvement of Colombian civil society is essential as central questions about the country’s future must be clarified.

Drawing out the political, ontological, and technological underpinnings of the guerrilla as a figure, this text connects popular iterations of its practice to DH's political rhetoric and infrastructure. By doing so, it reorients DH's conceptual lexicon around practices of collective becoming, mediated by claims to conflict, antagonism, and democratic will. The introduction and chapter one pair a theory-driven analysis of DH's minoritarian interventions alongside contemporary political theory by focusing on Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri's radical democratic ingresses into network theory. These chapters also explore work by thinkers formative of #transformDH like Moya Bailey, Natalia Cecire, and others. Chapters two, three, and four connect post/decolonial, feminist, and Marxist iterations of DH praxis to the aesthetic histories of actually existing guerrilla movements (Latin American Third Cinema, Black Mask's anti-representational politics, and the documentary cinema of the Black Panther Party). All three chapters balance guerrilla history and DH method by exploring their common concepts: critical/politicized acts of making, representational and anti-representational politics, and the production of the common.     RAF, NSU und IS sind Akronyme terroristischer Gruppen, deren extremistische Propaganda und politische Gewalt die Bildenden Künste zu entschiedenen Reaktionen herausfordern. Die Ausstellung eröffnet deshalb eine hochaktuelle künstlerische Perspektive auf die Geschichte und politische Ikonografie des modernen Terrorismus. Erstmals werden in drei Sektionen vergleichend die Effekte des sozialrevolutionären, des rechtsextremen und des dschihadistischen Terrorismus auf die visuelle Kultur untersucht. Zwanzig Jahre nach dem 11. September 2001 und zehn Jahre nach der Entdeckung des NSU im Herbst 2011 gehen die Ausstellung und Publikation gemeinsam der Frage nach, wie sich politische Gewaltakte über die Medien auf das kulturelle Gedächtnis auswirken.
