    Einleitung -- Deutsches Reich/Monarchie (1898–1918). Abstieg in den Ruhm -- Deutsches Reich/Republik (1918/19–1933). Im Anfang das Ende -- Die Tui-Republik (1929–1933). Vom Anfang des Endes. Das Songbuch der „Hauspostille“ sowie die Stücke „Baal“, „Im Dickicht“ und „Mann ist Mann“ reichten der „Wiener Morgenpost“ bereits 1927 aus, um Bert Brecht in das Pantheon der Unsterblichen aufzunehmen. Gleichzeitig feierte die deutsche Presse den Singer-Songwriter als „Volkssänger im Zeitalter des Wolkenkratzers“. 1928 avancierte der Dreißigjährige mit der „Dreigroschenoper“ zum Weltstar der Pop-Industrie, die gerade entstand und noch keinen Namen hatte. Brechts Werk der Weimarer Republik, bisher im Vorhof des späteren Klassikers abgestellt, entreißt Jan Knopf mit rasanten Geschichten seinen ideologischen Vereinnahmungen und entdeckt im sozialen Kontext den bisher unbekannten Erfolgsautor. Das Chaos ist aufgebraucht. Es war die beste Zeit. Mit fröhlicher Literaturwissenschaft wird’s wieder Ereignis.

    Wer sich aufmacht, der Rede vom Plausiblen nachzuspüren, kommt zu einem eigenartigen Befund: In Alltag und Wissenschaft sind Aussagen, dass etwas »plausibel« ist, nahezu allgegenwärtig. Auf der anderen Seite zeigt sich, dass wissenschaftliche Konzeptualisierungen der im Begriff anklingenden Bedeutungen selten sind. Der Band bietet daher eine interdisziplinäre kulturwissenschaftliche Erkundung des Konzepts der Plausibilität und der Praxis des Plausibilisierens.     Weltabgewandter Sprachspieler oder »radikaler Realist«? Fremd- und Selbstzuschreibung gehen in Bezug auf den Autor Ror Wolf weit auseinander. Dies gründet auf einer nur scheinbaren Paradoxie: In Wolfs vielgestaltigem Werk vollzieht sich der Zugriff auf Wirklichkeit gerade im Modus der Sabotage, Unterbrechung, Irritation oder Verzerrung - kurz: im Modus der Störung. Ausgehend von der langen Prosa fragt Barbara Bausch nach möglichen Formen literarischer Referenzialität. Dabei konturiert sie Ror Wolfs experimentelle und zugleich engagierte Poetik des ästhetisch produktiven Störens als Kreuzungspunkt verschiedenster Suchbewegungen des Prosaschreibens in den 1950er bis 1980er Jahren.

This open access book offers a concise overview of the theories constructed within the various human sciences around the theme of creativity as a symbolic capacity to link things together: it manifests itself when the individual endowed with a certain type of intelligence encounters cultural and social conditions that enable them to develop that capacity to the maximum, rather than inhibiting it or diverting it to other fields where it is doomed to failure. Even the most intimate of human expressiveness is considered as a result of an active social relationality. Social dimensions of creativity (evaluation, primary socialization, motivation, leadership) and “creative processes” (creative attitude, creative gesture, divergent thinking, problem-solving capacity, interdisciplinary approach, randomness, algorithmic creativity) are also analysed. The book concludes by evaluating the course taken in the light of the relational theory of society: the development of creativity cannot be conceived outside of self-other relations. This book is the result of a translation done with the help of artificial intelligence. The text has subsequently been revised further by a professional copy editor in order to refine the work stylistically. Pier Paolo Bellini is Associate Professor at University of Molise, Italy. His research focuses on the sociology of cultural and communicative processes, with a special interest in the characteristics of artistic communication and its intercultural potential. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.

This edited collection represents a first-of-its-kind exploration of English-related discourses in the Caribbean. Drawing from Critical Discourse and stylistic analyses, the book's wide-ranging chapters examine language as it is produced within the complex demographic milieu of the region. It addresses a critical lack of linguistic scholarship on discourse types from the Caribbean, since the major academic focus in the post-independence era has been on descriptive and interventionist work in Creole Linguistics. This volume seeks to add new dimensions to language in practice with its focus on the development of discourse types within the region, public policy, discourses surrounding the galvanising figure of the Caribbean Prime Minister, literary discourses, and gender and media representations. As a site of great variation, linguistic and otherwise, the Caribbean provides unique insight into the interplay of the socio-political and language in contemporary societies in the Global South. Based on work presented at the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s “Stylistics, Critical Discourse Analysis and Language Use in the Caribbean” 2021 conference, the book draws together papers from established Caribbeanists seeking to bridge the existing theoretical and analytical gap between the more macro, socio-political aspects of studies in the social sciences, and the more micro features of linguistic analysis. With its breadth of coverage and analysis, this volume has implications for work being done at all levels of university scholarship in the social sciences, media discourses, decolonisation practices, and language and society in postcolonial and multi-ethnic contexts worldwide. Ryan Durgasingh is a Research Fellow at Ruhr University, Bochum, and PhD candidate at the University of Münster, Germany, where his work focuses on morphosyntactic variation in Caribbean Englishes. His research interests include stylistics, Critical Discourse Studies, variationist sociolinguistics, and corpus-based approaches to linguistic analysis. Nicha Selvon-Ramkissoon is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Education Programmes, University of Trinidad and Tobago. Her main areas of interest are in Language Arts Curriculum Development, Second Dialect/Language Pedagogy, Critical Discourse Studies, and Translanguaging pedagogy for migrant communities.

Placing Disability presents an international collection of personal essays that address the experience of disability in particular geographical locations. Each chapter engages the question of what it means to be disabled in a specific place, exploring issues of movement, work and play, community and activism, artistic production, love and marriage, access and social services, family and friendship, memory and aging—all informed by the places that people inhabit. The book is organized in terms of topographies and vistas, rather than being bound by the map, to emphasize the defining, constitutive effects of place. The authors included in Placing Disability hail from different countries, neighborhoods, climates, and landscapes; from various backgrounds and professions; from a range of disciplinary perspectives and strategies. They are trained as academics, literary critics, poets, students, public speakers, memoirists, educators, philosophers, administrators, and activists. Their essays refine our understanding of the complex dynamic between self and circumstance as they survey the impact of geographical region on their life experiences. This book is intended to be useful in creative-writing workshops, Disability Studies seminars, and classes on environmental literature, and to appeal to general readers of memoir as well as to scholars of contemporary body theory or the Anthropocene. Susannah B. Mintz is Professor of English at Skidmore College. Her books include the memoir Love Affair in the Garden of Milton (2021) and four scholarly volumes on disability and literature. She is also the co-editor of four collections of work on disability issues, including Disability Experiences (2019, with G. Thomas Couser). Gregory Fraser is Professor of English at the University of West Georgia. He is the author of four poetry collections, most recently Little Armageddon (2021), and co-author of two writing textbooks. Fraser’s poetry has appeared in journals including The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The Southern Review, and Ploughshares. He is the recipient of several awards, including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation.

These texts pit the archetypal detective against the archetypal serial killer using established formulas as well as new narrative and generic features, a combination that results in their mass appeal among authors and audiences alike. The list of primary sources includes 120 titles – novels, short stories, plays, fanfiction, ‘Grand Game’ studies, movies, TV shows, video and board games – which are treated as a dialogic network of transfictional and transmedial texts. This study unpacks the versus corpus in its media dispersal by analysing Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper as serial figures and culture-texts emphasising the increasing palimpsestousness of the former and the multidirectional polymorphousness of the latter, and tracing the overlapping Doylean culture-text. It also addresses the way character constellations are represented, negotiated, and fed back into the versus network, contextualising them within the coalescence of fact and fiction, Gothic and crime fiction frames, cultural memory, neo-Victorianism, and biofiction. Lucyna Krawczyk-Żywko is Assistant Professor at the Institute of English Studies, University of Warsaw, Poland. She coordinates the research group 'From Queen Anne to Queen Victoria' and initiated the Changing Narratives conference series. Her research combines neo-Victorian, crime fiction, and adaptation studies and focuses on the rewritings of Victorian villains and detectives.

Tracing cosmopolitanism’s transition from universalism to vernacularism, the book opens up new avenues for reading cosmopolitan fiction by offering a precise and convenient set of terminology. The figure of the cosmoflâneur identifies a contemporary cosmopolitan character’s urban mobility and wandering consciousness in interaction with the global and the local. Posthuman cosmopolitanism also extends the meaning of cosmopolitan which comes to embrace the nonhuman alongside the human element. Defining narrative glocality, political hyper-awareness, and narrative immediacy, the book thoroughly explores how cosmopolitan narration forges direct responses to the contemporary world in postmillennial cosmopolitan novels. All of these concepts are elaborated in Ian McEwan’s Saturday (2005), Zadie Smith’s NW (2012), Salman Rushdie’s The Golden House (2017), and Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun (2021), to which world-engagement is central. Elif Toprak Sakız holds a PhD in English Literature from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Türkiye. Her areas of interest include cultural studies, twenty-first-century fiction, narrative theory and posthumanism. She is a lecturer of Foreign Languages and Comparative Literature at Dokuz Eylul University, where she has been teaching since 2010. These are not discussed with Ambedkar's life stories narrated by himself. This book bridges the gap between Dalit Studies and Ambedkar Studies to project how Ambedkar attempted to forge into an impregnable South Asian social, educational, and political fabric. This reference book aims to attract academics and students of Asian, South Asian, and Dalit Studies. The book appeals to educators, policymakers, and comparative literary scholars. Urban Mobilities in Literature and Art Activism explores the entwinement of mobility and immobility in urban spaces by focusing on their representation in literary narratives but also in visual and performing arts. Across a range of geographical contexts, this volume builds on the new mobilities paradigm developed by literary scholars, sociologists and human geographers. The different chapters employ a cohesive framework that is sensitive to the intersecting dimensions of power and discrimination that shape urban kinetic features. The contributions are divided into three sections, each of which places the focus on a different aspect of urban mobility: Itinerant Subjects, Modes of Transport and Places of Transit, and Urban Liminalities. Patricia García is a senior researcher in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Universidad de Alcalá (Spain), where she currently leads a Ramón y Cajal project on urban peripheries in contemporary literature (2020-2025, Ministerio de Universidades, ES and European Social Fund) . Her research focuses on literary urban spaces, which she analyzes at their intersections with peripherality, gender and with representations of the supernatural. She is the author of The Urban Fantastic in Nineteenth-Century European Literature (Palgrave, 2021) and Space and the Postmodern Fantastic in Contemporary Literature (Routledge, 2015). She has held fellowships and research grants from the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study, the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies and the British Academy. She directs the network Fringe Urban Narratives (urbanfringes.com). She is the Vice-President of ALUS: Association for Literary Urban Studies, a member of the Executive Committees of the European Society of Comparative Literature and part of the editorial board of BRUMAL: Research Journal on the Fantastic. She is co-editor of the Palgrave series Literary Urban Studies. Anna-Leena Toivanen is Academy Research Fellow at the School of Humanities at the University of Eastern Finland. Her current research project, funded by the Academy of Finland (2021-2025), focuses on the poetics of mobility in Francophone African literatures. She has held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship at the University of Liège (2017-2019). Her monograph Mobilities and Cosmopolitanisms in African and Afrodiasporic Literatures was published by Brill in 2021, and she is currently working on her second book entitled Afroeuropean Mobilities in Francophone African Literatures (Palgrave Macmillan) She acts as the literary studies subject editor of the Nordic Journal of African Studies and has previously acted as the editor-in-chief of the Finnish literary studies journal Avain (2018-2019). She is in the editorial board of Mobility Humanities. She has co-edited a special issue entitled “European Peripheries” for the Journal of Postcolonial Writing (2021) and is currently guest-editing a special issue on public transport in African literatures for English Studies in Africa (forthcoming in 2024).

With over 90% of the Filipin@s (Filipino/as) in the country and more than eight million around the world identifying as Christian, they are a significant force reshaping global Christianity. The fifth centenary called for celebration, reflection, and critique. This book represents the voices of theologians in the Philippines, the United States, Australia, and around the world examining Christianity in the Philippines through a postcolonial theological lens that suggests the desire to go beyond the colonial in all its contemporary manifestations. Part 1, “Rethinking the Encounters,” focuses on introducing the context of Christianity’s arrival in the archipelago and its effect on its peoples. Part 2, “Reappropriation, Resistance, and Decolonization,” grapples with the enduring presence of coloniality in Filipinreligious practices. It also celebrates the ways Christianity has been critically and creatively reimagined. Cristina Lledo Gomez is the Presentation Sisters Lecturer at BBI-The Australian Institute of Theological Education (BBI-TAITE) and a Research Fellow for the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, Charles Sturt University, Australia. Her role at BBI-TAITE is directed toward promoting women’s spiritualities, feminist theologies, and ecotheologies. Agnes M. Brazal is a Full Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Education at De La Salle University Manila, The Philippines, former President of DaKaTeo (Catholic Theological Society of the Philippines), and author/editor of eleven books that include A Theology of Southeast Asia: Liberation-Postcolonial Ethics in the Philippines (2019). Ma. Marilou S. Ibita is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Education at De La Salle University, The Philippines, and a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. Her research centers around biblical literature and Jewish-Christian dialogue.

Latin American Digital Poetics seeks to take the pulse of emergent poetic forms whose history is entangled with the computational and its AI dreams and achievements. This study carefully and thoroughly probes the intersection between the literary, the cultural, and the scientific-technological in order to reflect on the ways that digital technology has radically reshaped and reconfigured nearly all aspects of contemporary culture. The main idea of this book, then, is simple: by way of panoramic approaches to digital poetry as well as select case studies, we seek to account for the multi-directional exchange between poetry, technology, and culture via a (primarily) pedagogical approach. Scott Weintraub is Professor of Spanish at the University of New Hampshire. He is the author or co-editor of over a dozen books and special journal issues and is Senior Editor of A Contracorriente: una revista de estudios latinoamericanos. Luis Correa-Diaz is Member of the Academia Chilena de la Lengua and Real Academia de Ciencias, Bellas Letras y Nobles Artes de Córdoba, and Professor of Spanish at the University of Georgia-USA. He is the author of several books, articles and special dossiers, and member of several editorial boards of European, Latin American, and US journals. .

This book delves into the aesthetics and processes by which Latinx writers and creatives artfully adapt and appropriate Shakespeare for young readers. Shakespeare, this book demonstrates, is reimagined with social justice in mind, yielding literary mestizadas (the critical term employed to highlight the palimpsestic nature of these admixtures). These literary mestizadas not only create representational mirrors in which Latinx young readers can better see themselves and their lived cultural experiences but also offer them the opportunity to contest the social injustices that impact them and their communities. In this, the book provides the critical framework for understanding how Latinx young adult appropriations of Shakespeare offer young readers educational ecologies in which to thoughtfully engage with issues of race, gender, and sexuality. By focusing on this productive literary interplay between Shakespeare and Latinx youth literatures, this book directs us to the generative and transformative potentials that unfold from these hybridized texts. Understanding Shakespeare and Latinx, not in their separate spheres but in the way they blend together to create new, important literary formulations embraces these brave(r) new worlds in which Latinx youth are affirmed and empowered. Young Latinx Shakespeares offers a robust interdisciplinary examination of the complex entanglements between Shakespeare and Latinx literature written for young readers. In the process of theorizing and analyzing a wide range of hybridized texts that reimagine Shakespeare to reflect the diverse experiences and concerns of Latinx youth, Montaño also provides the critical frameworks through which to study the “literary mestizadas” that will undoubtedly be created in the years to come. Young Latinx Shakespeares builds cultural bridges of many kinds as it seeks to transform the way that Shakespeare is taught, read, and remade in order to affirm and empower young people of color. Kathryn Vomero Santos, Associate Professor of English. Co-Director, Humanities Collective. Trinity University Jesus Montaño is an assistant professor of English at Baylor University, USA. He is a teacher-scholar of Latinx literatures and cultures, with special interest in children’s and young adult literary and cultural production in Our Americas. Along with his co-authored book Tactics of Hope in Latinx Children’s and Young Adult Literature (2022), Montaño’s program of study includes articles and book chapters in The Lion and the Unicorn, Children’s Literature Quarterly, and Liberating Shakespeare (Arden Shakespeare, 2023).

    This book provides an insight into the complex entanglements between African countries and India, China, and South Korea from multidisciplinary perspectives connecting approaches from cultural, anthropological, literary, and music studies and art history. The three parts present a regional focus, namely Africa-India, Africa-South Korea, and Africa-China while the single contributions speak to each other and offer complementary insights. At the same time, the chapters also link across the regional realms as they deal with similar topics, such as travelling music genres. In part I, for Pombo material culture is the starting point to investigate the connections between the islands of the Indian Ocean and India by questioning the construction of memory. It highlights various aspects of the multilayered history of connections between Africa, the islands, and India. Part II gathers contributions that are complimentary to each other and therefore contribute to the understanding of the complex entanglements in area studies. Part III (Africa-South Korea) explores the impact of African-American arts and artists on South Korea's popular culture as well as the changing perception of artists of African descent in visual popular culture. It shows the impact of Korean content in South Africa. Ute Fendler holds the chair of Romance and Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Bayreuth. She is the deputy spokesperson of the Cluster of Excellence “Africa Multiple. Her research interests cover literature and film cultures of the Caribbean, West Africa, the Indian Ocean, and South America. Yongkyu Chang is a professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea and teaches in the Division of African Studies and Graduate School of International Area Studies. He earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology at KwaZulu-Natal University in South Africa and researched various social and cultural issues across Africa. He has expertise in African belief systems and currently working on a project exploring spirit possession in Zanzibar.

Das Songbuch der „Hauspostille“ sowie die Stücke „Baal“, „Im Dickicht“ und „Mann ist Mann“ reichten der „Wiener Morgenpost“ bereits 1927 aus, um Bert Brecht in das Pantheon der Unsterblichen aufzunehmen. Gleichzeitig feierte die deutsche Presse den Singer-Songwriter als „Volkssänger im Zeitalter des Wolkenkratzers“. 1928 avancierte der Dreißigjährige mit der „Dreigroschenoper“ zum Weltstar der Pop-Industrie, die gerade entstand und noch keinen Namen hatte. Brechts Werk der Weimarer Republik, bisher im Vorhof des späteren Klassikers abgestellt, entreißt Jan Knopf mit rasanten Geschichten seinen ideologischen Vereinnahmungen und entdeckt im sozialen Kontext den bisher unbekannten Erfolgsautor. Das Chaos ist aufgebraucht. Es war die beste Zeit. Mit fröhlicher Literaturwissenschaft wird’s wieder Ereignis.

This book charts the development of creative writing, bringing it from China to the world. As the second volume of Chinese Creative Writing Studies, the first of which introduces Chinese creative writing to English-speaking readers, this book expands on the first in further developing theories and research on creative writing pedagogy in the Chinese context, and in Hong Kong particular, looking at creative writing within cross-media practices, and the implications for creative writing in global contexts. The volume does so by presenting both local and international voices to expand the horizon of Chinese creative writing development. Structured in four parts, the book begins with leading Chinese scholars' reflections on research and field. The second part focuses on the interlinkages between creative writing and pedagogy in Hong Kong. The third section discusses poetic thinking and therapeutic writing to highlight their relationship with the personal and community. Lastly,the book takes a global perspective to examine the pedagogy and practice of creative writing through interviews with leaders in the field. It is relevant to researchers, teachers, and students interested in creative writing, particularly Chinese creative writing, but also those working in comparative contexts, both culturally, and in terms of cross-media perspectives.
