    19. yüzyılda misyoner, oryantalist, asker, yönetici ve araştırmacılar olmak üzere farklı meslek gruplarından birçok Avrupalı, Osmanlı topraklarını dolaşarak arkalarında seyahat kitapları bırakmışlardır. Klasik bilimsel çalışmaların aksine alternatif bir araştırma modeli olarak kabul edilebilecek olan seyahat yazını bir anlatı türü olarak sosyal bilimlerin farklı disiplinleri için oldukça sübjektif verilere dayansa da yoğun ve zengin bir bilimsel materyal sunmaktadır. Bu bağlamda bir Alman oryantalist ve seyyah olan Eduard Sachau (1845-1930) Osmanlı toprakları içerisinde 1879'da başlayarak yaklaşık altı ay süren bir seyahat gerçekleştirmiş ve seyahat notlarını "Reise in Syrien und Mesopotamien" ("Suriye ve Mezopotamya Seyahati") adıyla 1883 yılında Almanya'da kitap olarak yayımlamıştır. Aslında bir filolog olan Sachau, tıpkı bir sosyolog, antropolog ve arkeolog gibi dolaşarak Osmanlı taşrasında yaşayan Arap, Kürt, Türk, Nasturi, Yakubi ve Yezidiler hakkında önemli bilgiler sunmuştur. Bu çalışma, bir bilim insanı olarak Sachau'nun seyahatinin oryantalist bilgi üretim süreci olduğunu iddia etmekte ve onun süreçte bu topladığı bilgiyi farklı yollarla akademik metinlere transfer ettiğini öne sürmektedir. ; In the 19th century, many Europeans from different professions, including missionaries, orientalists, soldiers, administrators and researchers, travelled around Ottoman territories and left books behind. Contrary to classical scientific studies, travel writing can be considered as an alternative research model. Although travelogues are based on highly subjective data for the social science as a narrative genre, it provides intense and rich scientific materials.     Der Sprachwandel ist ein lebendiges Geschehen, ein Prozess, den man in der Sprache selbst kaum merkt. Er wird u. a. sichtbar im Gebrauch von anachronistischen Redensarten, die in ihrer Substanz veraltete Inhalte verwenden und in ihrem aktuellen Gebrauch dadurch oft für den Laien unerklärbar sind. Die ältere Sprichwörterforschung stellt nützliche Hilfsmittel, aber zur Erläuterung muss man manchmal Interpretationen suchen. Ältere Redensarten beruhen oft auf (ebenso veralteten) Vorurteilen, sind aber häufig interessante Zeugnisse zur Kulturgeschichte. Für uns heute völlig unverständlich ist zum Beispiel die traditionelle Verachtung des Schneiders, die sich in Redensarten niederschlägt. Andere Redensarten sind Überreste von "Rechtsaltertümern", die seit langem nicht mehr gelten. Überlieferte Vorurteile, im Orientalismus (Interesse und Begeisterung für die Osmanen u. a.) allerdings durchaus positiv assoziiert, verbinden sich im Deutschen mit dem Begriff des "Türkischen" [richtig: Osmanischen]. Dazu gibt es viele Beispiele, auch z. B. historische Brunnen mit der Figur des Osmanen, die mit der Zeit erklärungsbedürftig, also ebenfalls "anachronistisch", geworden ist. Gegenläufig sehen wir viele positive Einflüsse "westlicher" Staatsstrukturen auf den modernen türkischen Staat. ; Dil değişimi, dilde hemen hemen hiç fark edilmeden yaşanan bir süreçtir. Bu değişim, bünyesinde eskimiş içerikleri barındıran ve günlük hayatta bu yüzden sıklıkla normal okur için açıklanamaz nitelikte olan anakronik deyimlerin kullanımı anında da görülebilir. Eski atasözü araştırmaları yararlı yardımcı materyal sunabilir, fakat açıklama için bazen yoruma da ihtiyaç duyulur. Eski deyimler ekseriyetle (yine eskimiş) ön yargılara dayanırlar, ama çoğunlukla kültür tarihine ilişkin ilginç belgeler niteliği taşırlar. Örnek olarak Almancada, deyimlere yansıdığı gibi terzinin geleneksel olarak aşağılanması anlaşılır değildir.     This study compares and analyses hetero-stereotypes in Flaubert's travelogue "Voyage en Égypte" and Bachmann's prose fictions "Wüstenbuch" and "Das Buch Franza" in order to find out to what extent Flaubert resorts to stereotypical representations of the colonial Orient, and Bachmann perpetuates, transforms, or revises Flaubert's imagological discourse in the age of postcolonialism. Whereas Flaubert's sexist and racist narrative posits white superiority, Bachmann's protagonists subvert the male hegemonic stance of her French predecessor, insisting on white and male inferiority, causing just another stereotypization of race and gender.
