Der historische Wandel autobiographischen Schreibens zur Pluralität autobiographischer Erzählstile wird am Beispiel der Autobiographien von Fanny Lewald und Christa Wolf verdeutlicht. Der Beitrag schießt mit einem Plädoyer für die Verwendung autobiographischer Texte als erziehungswissenschaftliches Quellenmaterial

    Abstract: The present paper aims to focus on how the circuit of different discourses in Alexandria and Rome contributes to the subject formation in Antony and Cleopatra. Identity, which acts as trap in this play, precipitates the characters from two different countries or contexts into a war through creating binarized categories with heterogeneous possibilities. Mark Antony - one of the Triumvirs of Rome in search for self-actualization strives against his country’s discourse in the beginning, he places himself in the warring discourses of Rome and Alexandria. When in Alexandria, he is inside the discourses of Rome, and when in Rome, he is inside the discourses of Alexandria. Like the nature of the signifier as it can happen and be determined by other contexts, Antony retains references to Rome when he is Alexandria, and establishes himself as a subject and makes his signification possible in this foreign country by relating himself to epicurean concepts other than his own former stoic attit

    Abstract: Angela Carter (1940-92) in her famous short story, The Bloody Chamber, depicts a protagonist whose identity seems to be a predetermined sign in a signifying loop from which she can make no escape. In the first part of our paper, we attempt to show how The protagonist's ensuing psychological tension is aggravated by the conflict which she feels between her ideal ego (as an innocent girl) and her ego-ideal (a rare talent for corruption) and which leads her to unrelenting introspection and interior dialogue with her existential states. Such interior dialogue provides the protagonist with an existential ground on which she empties all her life events of their presence by signifying (or verbalizing) them through Derridean Differance. Therefore, her interior dialogue results in non-identity in her subjectivization both in the realm of signs and of (social) events. Then, we focus on the protaganist's paradoxical urges spontaneously outflowed from within which, by resisting symbolization

Transgressing power investigates the violation of the normal and familiar trends of literature in order to circulate a new discourse by which a new identity is reframed. Hence, the study of power in Martin Amis's novels, as an important technique of identity re-definition, is not taken into consideration in the light of Foucault's theory of power. The objective of this study is to examine the role applied by transgression as a technique of subverting the common discourse of power in the field of identity re-formation. The study investigates the concept of power manipulated in Amis's Money to define the identity of the "New Man". Accordingly, the Foucauldian theory of power is taken as a framework of this study.     Abstract: This research is an ecocritical reading of Melville's "Bartleby the Scrivener". Melville's treatment of the environment is described and analyzed with regard to Augé's theory of non-Places. The examples of non-place in Melville's Wall Street story include the compartmentalized office, the urban labyrinth, artificial and natural greeneries and oriental landscapes. The motif of compartmentalization forms the binary of insider and outsider. A close attention to the binaries in this story reveal Melville's critical attitude towards urban culture that threatens the American identity and mocks the American predilection for mobility in open spaces. This story reveals the way social institutions of an urban culture can determine the tragic fate of an out of place individual. Melville, in this story, reveals the consequences of marginalizing nature and indicates his ecological concerns in mid-nineteenth century America.     Abstract: Poetic inquiry offers the opportunity to become intimate with those multiple facets of self that shape our understanding. However, as scholars, even when we engage in creative forms of inquiry, we often find ourselves driven to ignore certain aspects of our identities. To acknowledge the personal within our research is uncomfortable and some have even argued, irrelevant. I believe our stories of the personal are extremely relevant, reflecting a landscape of multiple, fluid, intersecting and often contradictory subjectivities. As scholars, each of us has or will struggle at some point along our journey in relationship to our place within our work of doing research. The struggles may be different, but the discomfort is shared. Across the space of this article I use poetic inquiry to enter into discomfort and uncertainly as I try to make sense of what it means to engage in scholarship as a new mother. Through poetic inquiry my story does not exist in isolation, but instead becomes one

    Abstract: Ziel der Betrachtung ist die Frage nach dem wechselseitigen Zusammenhang von Gegenstand und Form in Bezug auf die Analyse von Lebensproblemen und Selbstidentifikationen von Autobiographinnen. In diesem Sinne werden die methodische und methodologische Vorgehensweise bei der Analyse von Frauenautobiographien von 1890 bis 1914 und deren Ergebnisse vorgestellt. Neben der Auswahl der Untersuchungsgruppe wird die Analyse der Autobiographien nach dem Verfahren der 'Grounded Theory' vorgestellt. Als Resultat ergaben sich für die Autobiographien fünf Lebensthemen: Familie, Beruf, Politik, Dichtkunst und Musik. Die Hauptrepräsentanten der jeweiligen Lebensthemen sowie die dazugehörigen Vergleichsfälle wurden ausführlich sequenzanalytisch interpretiert. Hierzu wurde auf Interpretationsverfahren narrativer Interviews (Fritz Schütze) zurückgegriffen. Bei der Vorstellung einiger Ergebnisse der Autobiographie-Analyse wird deutlich, dass die Autobiographinnen ein weites Spektrum autobiographischer
