    Sowohl der Begriff als auch die Vorstellung von »Kultur« verändern sich aktuell radikal. Intellektuelle aus allen Disziplinen sind damit befasst, eine Neubestimmung und -positionierung von »Kultur« vorzunehmen.Im Zeitalter von Globalisierung und Migration ist die Vorstellung von einer zugleich an ein Volk, eine Nation und an einen spezifischen Ort gebundenen Kultur im Herder'schen Sinne offenbar obsolet geworden. Man versucht vielmehr, die Fluidität, die Dynamik und die Grenzüberschreitungen zwischen Kulturen zu begreifen. Die Beiträge in diesem Band zeigen, dass das Konzept der Transkulturalität, welches zunehmend sowohl die Interkulturalitäts-Studien als auch die Postcolonial Studies als kulturwissenschaftliches Paradigma ablöst, hierfür einen methodischen Ansatzpunkt bietet

    Die Auseinandersetzung mit literarisch inszenierter Adoleszenz hat sich insbesondere seit der Jahrtausendwende zu einem produktiven Arbeitsfeld der Literaturwissenschaft entwickelt. Vor allem Kinder- und Jugendliteraturforschung sowie Literaturdidaktik haben davon profitiert. Doch wie hängen Adoleszenz und Alterität zusammen? Die Beiträger*innen erarbeiten anhand von exemplarischen literatur- und medienwissenschaftlichen Analysen Anknüpfungspunkte zwischen Adoleszenz und interkulturellen sowie postkolonialen Fragestellungen und greifen aktuelle Themen wie z.B. Flucht, Migration, Rassismus oder (post-)koloniale Erfahrungen auf. Dabei werden auch didaktische Überlegungen im Sinne eines rassismussensiblen, interkulturellen Unterrichts in den Fokus gerückt.

To what extent have theories and movements of anti-imperial and anticolonial resistance across the planet been shaped by books as they are read across the world? Fighting Words responds to these questions by examining how the book as a cultural form has fuelled resistance to empire in the long twentieth century. By outlining contemporary theoretical debates and examining their implications for how the developing world is thought about, written about and engaged with in policy terms, this book unpacks the difficult, complex and important aspects of the relationships between postcolonial theory, decoloniality and development studies.The book focuses on the importance of development discourses, the relationship between development knowledge and power, and agency within development. It includes significant new material exploring the significance of postcolonial approaches to understanding development in the context of rapid global change and the dissonances and interconnections between postcolonial theory and decolonial politics. It includes a new chapter on postcolonial theory, development and the Anthropocene that considers the challenges posed by the current global environmental crisis to both postcolonial theory and ideas of development.     Wie kommt es, dass die katholischen und protestantischen Kirchen, welche schon in den 1960er Jahren eine nachhaltige Entwicklung in den Ländern des Südens gefordert hatten, heute vorwiegend die technokratischen Entwicklungspläne der dortigen Regierungen unterstützen? Der vorliegende Sonderband ergründet anhand von theologischen, historischen und ethnographischen Studien dieses scheinbare Paradox. Sie geben Einblicke in die theologischen Grundlagen der kirchlichen Entwicklungspolitik und zeigen auf, wie auf deren Grundlage die Resolutionen des zweiten Vaticanums und des Weltkirchenrats Ende der 1960er Jahre Alternativen zur modernistischen, neokolonialen Entwicklung forderten. Mehrere Beiträge zu Indonesien heben die Spannungen zwischen den entwicklungspolitischen Überzeugungen einzelner kirchlicher Akteure und den staatlich eng kontrollierten Kirchen hervor. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird deutlich, wie sehr das weltliche Engagement der Kirchen von realpolitischen Zwängen geprägt wird.Mit Beiträgen von Heinzpeter Znoj, Sabine Zurschmitten, Cyprianus Jehan Paju Dale, Claudia Hoffmann, Noëmi Rui, Barbara Miller, Maria Hughes How is it that the Catholic and Protestant churches, which had already demanded sustainable development in the countries of the South in the 1960s, today predominantly support the technocratic development plans of the governments there? This special volume explores this apparent paradox through theological, historical and ethnographic studies. They provide insights into the theological foundations of church development policy and show how on its basis the resolutions of the Second Vatican Council and the World Council of Churches at the end of the 1960s demanded alternatives to modernist, neo-colonial development. Several contributions on Indonesia highlight the tensions between the development policy convictions of individual church actors and the closely state-controlled churches.     Die deutsche Identitätspolitik hat durch die Auseinandersetzung mit muslimischen Migranten eine neue Wendung erlangt. Thea D. Boldt analysiert diesen Übergang im Zeitraum von 2000 bis 2011 mit besonderem Fokus auf das Konzept des Multikulturalismus. Dabei zeichnet sie die Transformation Deutschlands von einer Nation des ius sanguinis zu einer multikulturellen Gesellschaft in einem diskursiven Spannungsfeld zwischen staatlichen und nicht-staatlichen Akteuren - darunter Vertreter muslimischer Verbände - nach. Vor diesem Hintergrund erscheint die deutsche Debatte um den »Multikulti«-Begriff als Vorreiter einer neuen europäischen Identität und einer neuen europäischen Migrationsagenda.

    Critical Branding: Postcolonial Studies and the Market provides an original answer to what Sarah Brouillette has called postcolonial studies’ ‘longstanding materialist challenge’, illuminating the relationship between what is often broadly called ‘the market’ and the practice and positionality of postcolonial critics and their field, postcolonial studies. After much attention has been paid to the status of literary writers in markets, and after a range of sweeping attacks against the field for its alleged ‘complicity’ with capitalism, this study takes the crucial step of systematically exploring the engagement of postcolonial critics in market practice, substituting an automatic sense of accusation (Dirlik), dread (Westall; Brouillette), rage (Young; Williams), or irony (Huggan; Ponzanesi; Mendes) with a nuanced exploration and critique. Bringing together concepts from business studies, postcolonial studies, queer studies, and literary and cultural studies in an informed way, Critical Branding sets on a thorough theoretical footing a range of categories that, while increasingly current, remain surprisingly obscure, such as the market, market forces, and branding. It also provides new concepts with which to think the market as a dimension of practice, such as brand narratives, brand acts, and brand politics. At a time when the marketisation of the university system and the resulting effects on academics are much on our minds, Critical Branding is a timely contribution that explores how diversely postcolonial studies and the market intersect, for better and for worse.
