    »Gute Wissenschaftler«, so wird gemeinhin angenommen, entstehen allein durch ihre individuelle Leistung. Diese auf einer empirischen Untersuchung basierende Studie setzt dagegen die These, dass Leistung nicht unabhängig von der Anerkennung der im wissenschaftlichen Feld etablierten Akteure als funktionales, »objektives« Prinzip existiert, sondern innerhalb sozialer Prozesse individuell zugeschrieben und hergestellt wird. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird auch die Frage beleuchtet, wie es dazu kommt, dass wesentlich mehr männliche als weibliche Aspiranten die akademische Karriere fortsetzen. Der Blick richtet sich dabei weder auf »subjektive Laufbahnen« noch auf »objektive Strukturen«. Untersucht wird vielmehr die alltägliche Praxis des wissenschaftlichen Feldes, die sich im praktischen Sinn, der illusio der Akteure, widerspiegelt. Damit schließt die Studie an Pierre Bourdieus Untersuchungen des wissenschaftlichen Feldes an und ergänzt diese um neue Gesichtspunkte.

    Claudia Gather: Feministin, Forscherin, Netzwerkerin und Mentorin sowie unermüdliche Hochschulgestalterin und Hochschullehrerin; sie hat durch ihr Schaffen, Denken und Handeln in den letzten Jahrzehnten bleibende Eindrücke hinterlassen, nicht nur in den Gender Studies in Forschung, Lehre und Praxis, sondern auch bei Menschen, die sie im Laufe der Jahre umsichtig und selbstverständlich unterstützt hat. Ein Grund, sie mit dieser Festschrift für ihr wissenschaftliches Lebenswerk zu würdigen.     Obwohl das Geschlecht seit jeher eine der zentralen subjektkonstituierenden Identifikationskategorien des Menschen ist, bewegte sich ein geschlechterspezifiziertes Themenfeld lange Zeit außerhalb etablierter fachphilosophischer Diskussionslinien. In der philosophischen Reflexion zum Geschlechterdiskurs war es vor allem Judith Butler, die neue Impulse gesetzt und das Geschlecht jenseits identitärer Fixierungen gedacht hat. Dieses Buch greift diesen Wandel in der Philosophischen Anthropologie auf und setzt ihn in Bezug zu bisherigen Grund-annahmen der Geschlechterbeziehung. Dabei steht vor allem die Frage im Vordergrund, ob Butler mit ihrer poststrukturalistischen Performanztheorie grundlegende anthropologische Geschlechterbilder überwindet – vor allem im Vergleich zur strukturanthropologischen Allianztheorie von Lévi-Strauss.

    Wie positionieren sich Gewerkschaften gegenüber fortdauernden Geschlechterungleichheiten auf dem Arbeitsmarkt in Deutschland und in Frankreich? Dies wird im historischen Vergleich, im Vergleich der Organisationen sowie von typischen Deutungsmustern gewerkschaftlicher Geschlechterpolitik untersucht. Als Ergebnis ihrer Geschichte gestalten sich die Geschlechterverhältnisse in französischen Gewerkschaften egalitärer. Im Geschlechterwissen, das aus qualitativen Interviews mit GewerkschaftssekretärInnen rekonstruiert wurde, finden sich aber auch länderübergreifende Gemeinsamkeiten. So kommen in der Typologie von Deutungsmustern gewerkschaftlicher Geschlechterpolitik parallele Probleme der ungleichen Arbeitsteilung der Geschlechter sowie der Ausbreitung prekärer Beschäftigungsverhältnisse zum Ausdruck.Judith Holland hat am Institut für Soziologie der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg promoviert. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen in der Arbeits- und Industriesoziologie, der Geschlechterforschung, der vergleichenden Gesellschaftsanalyse sowie der rekonstruktiven Sozialforschung. How are trade unions reacting to the persisting gender inequalities in the labour market in Germany and France? This study addresses this question using a historical comparison, a comparison of the organisations in question as well as a comparison of typical interpretation patterns of trade union gender politics. While gender relations in French trade unions turn out to be more egalitarian, positive discrimination of women is especially important in German trade unions. Historically, this can be explained by the development of different structures and the cultures of women’s employment and trade unions in both countries. However, gendered knowledge, which was reconstructed here from qualitative interviews with union secretaries, also shows cross-national similarities. Thus, the typology of interpretive patterns of union-based gender politics expresses parallel problems in the unequal division of labour between the sexes and the spread of precarious employment.

    Based on a joint qualitative and quantitative approach, this dissertation analyzes Faulkner´s use of the house motif and related imagery in all of his novels and short story collections. Chapter One recapitulates what has been published on this issue before, a definition of the term "literary motif" follows in Chapter Two. Chapter Three provides a brief outline of different architectural styles used in the American South. Chapter Four introduces the reader to Lévi-Strauss´ notion of a house-based society. Chapter Five offers information about the use of the house motif in American literature in general. Chapter Six, the main part of my dissertation, is divided into three sections. The first section analyzes the significance of private houses [plantation houses, mansions, town houses, and cabins], the second section discusses the nature of public houses [courthouse, jail, banks, barbershops, churches, brothels] and public open spaces, while the third section, by contrast, highlights the symbolic meaning of elementary co-occurrences [attics, windows, doors, porches, fences] in Faulkner´s body of work. In the conclusion in Chapter Seven, my dissertation presents inter alia the following results: 1. The house motif and elementary co-occurrences symbolize a segregated society. 2. Yoknapatawpha County is a house-based society as defined by Lévi-Strauss in which houses are key symbols to organize and structure Yoknapatawpha´s society. 3. Faulkner derived his use of the house-motif from the Gothic tradition. 4. House related imagery like windows, doors, and fences, for instance, are not only used as spatial metaphors of liminality; these elementary co-occurrences also have a prominent position the complex symbol system of the house motif. The appendix contains statistics to fifteen novels and four short story collections highlighting the most frequently occurring nouns in these literary works.

    Abstract ; En las primeras dos décadas del siglo XXI, los estudios en torno al género y la sexualidad han proliferado de manera notable en toda América Latina. En el caso específico de México, grandes aportes han surgido en los últimos quince años y en diversas disciplinas con respecto al estudio de la sexualidad, la orientación sexual, la elección de género y las políticas sexuales con respecto a una multiplicidad de comportamientos que se salen de la norma o la rutina y lo politicamente correcto. Para este número especial de iMex. Mexico Interdisciplinario / Interdisciplinary Mexico buscamos artículos críticos que analicen diversas representaciones de género y sexualidad en obras literarias publicadas en México a partir del año 2000. Nos interesan las contribuciones que aborden la literatura mexicana más reciente con un sólido marco teórico, interdisciplinario. De particular interés serán los trabajos que se centren en la representación del feminismo y la masculinidad, la bisexualidad, la transexualidad, el lesbianismo, el sexismo, la discriminación de género, las sexualidades alternativas y los comportamientos sexuales disidentes. Se puede abordar un conjunto de obras literarias o una sola obra (de cualquier género), pero en ambos casos será imprescindible la contextualización de dichas obras dentro del panorama de la literatura mexicana actual, tomando en cuenta una serie de aportes críticos y teóricos producidos dentro y fuera de México.

    Abstract ; In Guadalupe Nettel’s narratives, the representation of disability deconstructs various Latin American paradigms of 'normalcy', within a global context. Drawing primarily from her novel, Después del invierno (2014), this study focuses on the processes that confront the restrictive and oppressive notions of 'the feminine' and 'the masculine'. Following theoretical postulates that define disability as a social construction, as well as contemporary theories on gender and masculinities, this essay seeks to uncover the ways in which the normalization of otherness reveals the elastic and malleable identity of the protagonists. Consequently, the study also traces the reciprocal connection between gender and disability as portrayed in the novel, as well as the social perception of disability.

    Bringing Chicana/o studies into conversation with queer theory and transgender studies, Post-Borderlandia examines why gender variance is such a core theme in contemporary Chicana and Chicanx narratives. It considers how Chicana butch lesbians and Chicanx trans people are not only challenging heteropatriarchal norms, but also departing from mainstream conceptions of queerness and gender identification. Expanding on Gloria Anzaldúa’s classic formulation of the Chicana as transformer of the "borderlands," Jackie Cuevas explores how a new generation of Chicanx writers, performers, and filmmakers are imagining a "post-borderlands" subjectivity, where shifting national, racial, class, sexual, and gender identifications produce complex power dynamics. In addition, Cuevas offers fresh archival analysis of the Chicana feminist canon to reveal how queer gender variance has always been crucial to this literary tradition

    This book proposes to rethink kinship in early Greek epic poetry, and argues that the depiction of parenthood as a poetic practice in epic poetry is socially motivated. Thus, the discursive form and the narrative function of genealogical relations are studied within the poetic context that encompasses them and according to the criterion of gender in order to interpret the references to the female and/or masculine ancestors in the Iliad, the Odyssey, the Theogony, the Catalogue of Women and the Homeric Hymns.Furthermore, this book makes an important step towards a female-centered catalogic poetics. Through the study of the analytic female-centered catalogues attested in archaic Greek epic poetry, this book highlights the hypothesis of the existence of a female-centered poetic tradition that sang the klea gynaikôn in terms of kinship and procreation.Within a reception perspective that expands beyond classical disciplines, the study of the function of kinship in early Greek epic poetry touches on anthropological, literary and historical subjects that fall within several disciplinary fields such as ancient history, anthropology of kinship, women's history and gender studies

    This study offers a literary history of the war novel in Africa. Coundouriotis argues that this genre, aimed more specifically at African readers than the continent’s better-known bildungsroman tradition, nevertheless makes an important intervention in global understandings of human rights.The African war novel lies at the convergence of two sensibilities it encounters in European traditions: the naturalist aesthetic and the discourse of humanitarianism, whether in the form of sentimentalism or of human rights law. Both these sensibilities are present in culturally hybrid forms in the African war novel, reflecting its syncretism as a narrative practice engaged with the colonial and postcolonial history of the continent.The war novel, Coundouriotis argues, stakes claims to collective rights that contrast with the individualism of the bildungsroman tradition. The genre is a form of people’s history that participates in a political struggle for the rights of the dispossessed

    What makes stories about portraits so gripping and unsettling? Portrait Stories argues that it is the ways they problematize the relation between subjectivity and representation. Through close readings of short stories and novellas by Poe, James, Hoffmann, Gautier, Nerval, Balzac, Kleist, Hardy, Wilde, Storm, Sand, and Gogol, the author shows how the subjectivities of sitter, painter, and viewer are produced in relation to representations shaped by particular interests and power relations, often determined by gender as well as by class. She focuses on the power that can accrue to the painter from the act of representation (often at the expense of the portrait’s subject), while also exploring how and why this act may threaten the portrait painter’s sense of self. Analyzing the viewer’s relation to the portrait, she demonstrates how portrait stories problematize the very act of seeing and with it the way subjectivity is constructed in the field of vision

    A profound intellectual engagement with Afrofuturism and the philosophical questions of space and time Queer Times, Black Futures considers the promises and pitfalls of imagination, technology, futurity, and liberation as they have persisted in and through racial capitalism. Kara Keeling explores how the speculative fictions of cinema, music, and literature that center black existence provide scenarios wherein we might imagine alternative worlds, queer and otherwise. In doing so, Keeling offers a sustained meditation on contemporary investments in futurity, speculation, and technology, paying particular attention to their significance to queer and black freedom.Keeling reads selected works, such as Sun Ra’s 1972 film Space is the Place and the 2005 film The Aggressives, to juxtapose the Afrofuturist tradition of speculative imagination with the similar "speculations" of corporate and financial institutions. In connecting a queer, cinematic reordering of time with the new possibilities technology offers, Keeling thinks with and through a vibrant conception of the imagination as a gateway to queer times and black futures, and the previously unimagined spaces that they can conjure

    In öffentlich-medialen Debatten wie im privat-intimen Rahmen werden Fragen rund um das Geschlecht kontrovers und oft auch stark simplifizierend diskutiert. Religionspädagogische Forschung und Praxis braucht, um in diesem Feld fundiert-konstruktiv agieren zu können, den analytischen und differenzierten Blick auf Geschlecht, den die Geschlechterforschung zur Verfügung stellt. Daher bietet der vorliegende Beitrag einen systematischen Einblick in wichtige Entwicklungen und Erkenntnisse der Geschlechterforschung. Im Resultat zeigt sich die Komplexität von Geschlecht als sozialer Kategorie, die in gesellschaftsstrukturelle Verhältnisse, symbolische Wertordnungen und subjektive Identitäten eingewoben ist und sich mit anderen Differenzkategorien wechselseitig verschränkt. Auf Basis eines solchen Kenntnisstandes können religionspädagogische Herausforderungen rund um Geschlechterfragen wahrgenommen, benannt, verstanden und reflektiert werden. In public-media debates as well as in private settings, questions about gender are currently being discussed in a divisive and oftentimes simplistic, one-sided manner. In order to act in a well-founded and constructive manner in this field, research and practice in religious education require the analytical and differentiated view of gender which is provided by the academic discipline of gender studies. Therefore, this article offers a systematic insight into gender studies and their most important developments and findings. As a result, the complexity of gender becomes apparent as a social category which is embedded in socio-structural relationships, symbolic orders of value and subjective identities, and which is mutually interwoven with other categories of difference. On this basis, challenges in the field of religious education relating to gender issues can be perceived, named, understood and reflected upon.
