    Dieser Band präsentiert die 14 Autorinnen, die bislang mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet wurden. Dass Produktion wie Rezeption von Kunst und Literatur keine geschlechtsneutralen Tätigkeiten sind, ist keine neue Einsicht der Gender Studies. Doch der Umstand, dass diesen 14 ausgezeichneten Frauen 100 männliche Nobelpreisträger gegenüberstehen, macht deutlich, dass die Eroberung der Autorposition durch Frauen weiterhin ein schwieriger und vielschichtiger Prozess ist. So fokussiert der Band nicht nur literarische Traditionen von Frauen, sondern auch Fragen nach weiblichem Schreiben und einer erweiterten Kanonbildung. Im Mittelpunkt der Beiträge stehen exemplarische Lektüren des Werks und das intellektuelle Profil der jeweiligen Autorin. Dabei wird in Anschluss an die von Virginia Woolf in ihrem Essay „A Room of One's Own" schon 1929 beschriebenen Herausforderungen für das literarische Schreiben von Frauen auch die Frage nach Bedingungen und Widersprüchen künstlerischer Kreativität gestellt.     Reiseliteratur besaß als Genre bis weit in die zweite Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts weitgehend marginale Bedeutung und wurde bestenfalls dokumentarisch gelesen oder sozialwissenschaftlich »ausgewertet«. Heute gehört sie zu jenen literarischen Vermittlungsformen, in denen sich am eindringlichsten die Probleme der (europäischen) Moderne, aber auch aktuelle transkulturelle Herausforderungen, Erfahrungsmodi, Projektionen und Sehnsüchte reflektieren. Der vorliegende Band behandelt Reiseliteratur systematisch wie historisch und stellt die Frage nach den ökonomischen, sozialen und politischen Hintergründen des Reisens, nach der Entwicklung der Gattung seit der frühen Neuzeit, nach den Strukturierungen reiseliterarisch dargestellter hermeneutischer Bewegungen, aber auch nach den Figuren von Reisenden und Lesenden. Im Zentrum stehen französisch-, spanisch- und italienischsprachige Reisen(de), aber auch deutsch- und englischsprachige Texte seit der Frühen Neuzeit sowie reiseliterarische Ausdrucksformen des ausgehenden 20. und beginnenden 21.     This open access edited collection examines representations of human trafficking in media ranging from British and Serbian newspapers, British and Scandinavian crime novels, and a documentary series, and questions the extent to which these portrayals reflect the realities of trafficking. It tackles the problematic tendency to under-report particular types of victim and forms of trafficking, and seeks to explore both dominant and marginalised points of view. The authors take a cross-disciplinary approach, utilising analytical tools from across the humanities and social sciences, including linguistics, literary and media studies, and cultural criminology. It will appeal to students, academics and policy-makers with an interest in human trafficking and its depiction in the modern day.

    The consequences of Englishes spread have become increasingly clear to its diverse speakers. Sometimes associated with a standardization leading to homogenization, often also with imperialism, English is increasingly understood to have no necessary connection with any country or group of countries. The willingness to accept that English has become Englishes might be less evident among so-called native speakers, but their authority is weaker than it seemed. This book puts examples from World Englishes into dialogue with postcolonial studies. The dialogue will correct misconceptions and misapprehensions in postcolonial studies, with World Englishes offering renewal for postcolonial studies. At the same time, the dialogue will also apply postcolonial studies' political and philosophical ideas to World Englishes, resulting in a postcolonial perspective on English today.

    Frères Ennemis focuses on Franco-American tensions as portrayed in works of literature. An Introduction is followed by nine chapters, each focused on a French or American literary text which shows the evolution/devolution of the relations between the two nations at a particular point in time. While the heart of the analysis consists of close textual readings, social, cultural and political contexts are introduced to provide a better understanding of the historical reality influencing the individual novels, a reality to which these novels are also responding. Chapters One through Five, covering a period from the mid-1870s to the end of the Cold War, discuss significant aspects of the often fraught relationship from the theoretical perspective of Roland Barthes' theory of modern myth, described in his Mythologies. Barthes' theory helps situate Franco-American tensions in a paradigmatic structure, while at the same time it is supple enough to allow for shifts and reversals within the paradigm. Subsequent chapters explore new French attitudes toward the powerful, potentially dominant influence of American culture on French life. In these sections I argue that recent French fiction displays more openness to the American experience than has existed in the past, and as such contrasts with the more static American approach to French culture.

    ''Although practices of editing and mentoring are part of an author's daily activities, they have previously been largely neglected by the literary studies. The bilingual volume therefore assembles players from the fields of literary production and theories of authorship and the writing process, who discuss the development towards an opening up of the creative writing process. Their contributions encompass not only reports of experiences made by authors, editors, and mentors and insights into teaching methods applied in creative writing classes at higher education institutions in different European countries. They also explore theoretical approaches to an intersubjective literary practice as well as suggestions for the definition of a dialogic notion of literature in the age of online publishing.

    Band 4 der Gesamtausgabe Kurt Schwitters. Alle Texte bietet erstmals eine vollständige Edition der von Kurt Schwitters herausgegebenen, multimedialen Künstlerzeitschrift Merz. Sie ermöglicht durch eine umfassende editorische Aufbereitung und eine vielschichtige Kommentierung mit komplexer Verweisstruktur einen neuen Zugang zu der kunstformenübergreifenden Reihe Merz. Dafür wurden die Inhalte sowie strukturelle und gestalterische Besonderheiten der Reihe interdisziplinär erforscht. Eine genaue wissenschaftliche Analyse der einzelnen Hefte, die relevante, bisher noch unerforschte Materialien einbezieht, liefert Erkenntnisse zur Entwicklung und zu künstlerischen Strategien des Gesamtwerks von Schwitters sowie zur Verortung von Merz in der internationalen Avantgarde der 1920er bis 1930er Jahre. Die kritische Transkription ermöglicht insbesondere im Falle der als Text-Bild-Collagen komponierten Seiten eine erhöhte Lesbarkeit. Die Materialität der Reihe Merz kann und will das Buch nicht dokumentarisch abbilden. Die Leserinnen und Lesern sollen vielmehr in die Lage versetzt werden, durch die editorische Aufbereitung des Materials dessen Spezifik zu erfassen. Aus diesem Grund wendet sich die Edition an Experten und Interessierte gleichermaßen, bietet sie doch sowohl Spezial- als auch Überblickswissen.
