    The transformation of economies towards significantly reduced CO2 consumption raises high investment and capital requirements. Financial and capital markets can help to mobilize the necessary funds for global investment needs and to steer capital towards sustainable investments. Moreover, potential disruptive impacts of climate change on the financial system have started to become more apparent recently and require central banks, regulators and supervisors to take a conscious look at the risks and opportunities of climate change for financial intermediaries and markets. This article offers a comprehensive discussion on how green finance has been evolving thus far and explores the opportunities and key developments ahead with particular emphasis on four selected highly topical issues: 1) the introduction of German green government bonds, 2) obstacles to the correct pricing of climate-related risks, 3) the EU taxonomy that has recently been put forward to develop a uniform classification of sustainable economic activities as well as 4) the role of central banks in fostering the transition to a low-carbon economy.

    This paper investigates the emergence of polarisation patterns in the EU during the last 60 years from a structuralist and complexity economics perspective. Based on the results, feasible opportunities for EU policy-making, which aim to counteract a tendency of polarization, are delineated. The study comprises of a historical analysis of the politico-economic events during this time and a complementary quantitative analysis of the European trade network. The results suggest that trade in the Eurozone is unequal at the expense of the peripheries and follows a pattern of "unequal technological exchange". The paper also assesses the usefulness of country taxonomies such as 'cores' and 'peripheries' for identifying the roots of polarization patterns. While it generally affirms the relevance of structural dependencies, and confirms the epistemic usefulness of country taxonomies, it also highlights three challenges - the challenges of dynamics, of ambiguity and granularity - that any such taxonomy necessarily faces, and which must be dealt with explicitly in any structuralist analysis using such taxonomies.

    Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit Typisierungen der Personalpolitik, die sich darauf richten, charakteristische Muster der Personalpolitik zu identifizieren und deren Zustandekommen zu erklären. Beschrieben werden der Erkenntniswert, der typologischen Ansätzen zukommt, und die Schwierigkeiten, die sich der Identifikation personalpolitischer Muster entgegenstellen. Ungeachtet der sich dabei stellenden Probleme erscheint es wünschenswert und möglich, über lediglich intuitiv plausible Ansätze hinauszugehen und theoretisch gut verankerte Typologien zu entwickeln. Einen breiten Raum nimmt im vorliegenden Beitrag die Darstellung der in der Literatur vorfindlichen Typisierungen der Personalpolitik ein. Zu unterscheiden ist hierbei zwischen Typologien, die sich auf das Gesamtsystem Organisation und Typologien, die sich, im engeren Sinne, auf einzelne Funktionsbereiche des Personalwesens beziehen. Das Spektrum der den Typisierungen zugrundeliegenden theoretischen Überlegungen erweist sich zwar als sehr breit, es wird aber dennoch von einigen wenigen Grundthemen bestimmt. Auch schließen sich die Typisierungen nicht gegenseitig aus, sie beleuchten oft einfach unterschiedliche Aspekte der Personalpolitik. Der Gedanke, dass sich verschiedenartige personalpolitische Ausrichtungen ergänzen und in ihrer Wirkung verstärken können, wird im Konzept der "Sozio-Bricks" aufgenommen und vertieft. Hierauf wird gesondert eingegangen. Danach werden die Erfahrungen aus einer Reihe von empirischen Erkundungen beschrieben, die darauf abzielten, das komplexe Untersuchungsobjekt Personalpolitik näher zu charakterisieren und anschaulich zu machen. Als theoretische Referenz diente das Sozio-Bricks-Konzept und es wurde geprüft, ob sich mit dessen Hilfe stimmige, in der betrieblichen Realität vorfindliche, personalpolitische Muster identifizieren lassen. Abschließend wird mit der Simulationsmethode noch ein Ansatz theoretischer Erkundungsar-beit skizziert. Der große Vorteil von Simulationsmodellen besteht darin, dass sie dazu zwingen, die Mechanismen zu operationalisieren, die man dafür verantwortlich macht, dass sich bestimmte personalpolitische Muster herausbilden. Außerdem erlauben entsprechend konzipierte Modelle, den Wirkungsverbund der auf die Personalpolitik einwirkenden Kräfte zu untersuchen.

    In this study, we aim at distinguishing comedies and tragedies among 112 dramas written by Calderón de la Barca, using procedures established by distributional semantics. 15 each of these comedias nuevas have already been classified by qualitative researchers as either tragedies or comedies, respectively; for another 82 dramas the classification was unknown. Four independent document embedding methods are explored, which differ from each other in matrix creation and reduction, and in the calculation of similarity or distance matrices. The best results – measured against the pre-established classification of these dramas – are obtained through the classification procedure that applied the strongest matrix reduction. In addition, a contrastive vocabulary analysis with word embeddings is carried out, based either on word lists produced by the four tested methods, or on the log-likelihood probability distribution for two sub-corpora containing only dramas already determined to be comedies or tragedies. This step permits the identification of 130 terms that are each discriminative either of comedies or of tragedies. The outcome shows that the explored methods identify tragedies with greater accuracy than comedies, indicating that tragedies show stronger lexical cohesion. It also becomes apparent that one could more appropriately consider classifications such as »tragedy« and »comedy« as poles between which gradual differences can be observed, whereby the ensuing transitional area contains comedias nuevas that have been described in prior research as tragicomedias or comedias mitologicas.

    Scholarly interest in radical Islam is long-standing and crosses multiple disciplines. Yet, while the labelling of Islam and Muslim actors as ‘radical’ is extensive, this has not been interrogated as a particular scholarly practice. And while studies of non-Western radicalism have grown in recent years, cross-cultural analysis of radicalism as a particular concept in political thought has been neglected. This article aims to begin to address this question, with reference to radical Islam. By treating radicalism as a meta-concept, it identifies radical Islam as a malleable and composite category that is constituted by, and made legible through, conceptual properties associated with four discourses in the study of radicalism with origins in the Western academy: Euro-radicalism, identified with the European left and critical theory; fundamentalism; radicalisation; and liberalism. I argue that radical Islam is under-theorised and over-determined as a scholarly category. This can be explained by how concepts originating in the Western academy to address Western contexts and phenomena function as master frameworks, narratives, or pivots against or around which radical Islam is defined. This is the case even when Eurocentrism is contested by critical theorists who tend to reproduce it because they do not abandon Western conceptions of radicalism but rather draw on them. Academic accounts of radical Islam also authenticate Islam by advancing selective, strategic or apologetic descriptions of what constitutes radicalism. In these ways, critical scholarship, including within IR, can also be insufficiently attentive to marginal and heterodox voices that fall outside hegemonic conceptions of Islamic normativity.
