Es geht dabei weniger um eine Neubewertung des auditiven Ausschnitts vergangener Wirklichkeiten, sondern um einen Perspektivwechsel in der Geschichtsschreibung: Im Zentrum steht die Frage, wie Menschen Klänge wahrnehmen, benutzen, inszenieren, deuten, erinnern - und zu historischen Wissenskonzepten verknüpfen. Musikgeschichte als Geschichte einer Klangkunst dient dabei als ein Kristallisationspunkt, der die interdisziplinäre Diskussion in einem besonders prägnanten Beispiel bündelt.

Mit dem Begriff der "epistemischen Gewalt" rückt Claudia Brunner den konstitutiven Zusammenhang von Wissen, Herrschaft und Gewalt in der kolonialen Moderne, unserer Gegenwart, in den Fokus. Ausgehend von feministischer, post- und dekolonialer Theorie entwickelt sie in Auseinandersetzung mit struktureller, kultureller, symbolischer und normativer Gewalt ein transdisziplinäres Konzept epistemischer Gewalt.

    This book concerns the soul/body problem in Plato and Aristotle. Established as well as early career scholars actually working on Plato and Aristotle explore - under different points of view as well as through original readings and interpretations - the manifold dimensions involved in the conception of the soul/body relation articulated by the two greatest founders of Western Thought. The book starts with an exploration of the relation between cause and matter in Plato and Aristotle, then some papers on Plato’s theory of soul and body are presented, which involve new advancements in the research about Platonic epistemology, moral and political theory, metaphysics of mind, even about his religious and ‘theological’ view. Some papers on Aristotle’s model follow, which are focused on his so-called “hylomorphism” as an alternative view to Plato’s alleged “dualism”: the ontology of the soul/body relation in Aristotle is explored, as well as the implications of this theoretical framework for his theory of knowledge, his moral theory, his cognitive psychology. Finally, two papers critically assess the philosophical connections between Aristotle’s hylomorphism and its modern and contemporary Wirkungsgeschichte.

Der vorliegende Band vereinigt, unterteilt in drei Abschnitte, Einzelstudien, die sich jeweils schwerpunktmäßig auf einen dieser drei Begriffe fokussieren. Dabei werden geeignete theoretische Modelle eingeführt und so zugeschnitten, dass sie textanalytisch nutzbar gemacht werden können. Ziel ist es jeweils, wichtige literaturtheoretische Grundlagen zu entfalten und diese in ihrem Erklärungspotential für literarische Texte zu erschließen. Es kommt dabei auch zu Rückkopplungen zwischen Theoriediskurs und literarischer Praxis, insofern diese nicht selten in selbstreflexiver Form die eigenen Grundlagen thematisiert und implizite Theoriemodelle entwirft. Behandelt werden Texte aus dem Novellino, von Dante, Boccaccio, Cervantes, Diderot, Jean Paul, Foscolo, Balzac, Baudelaire, Zola, Capuana, Proust, Simon, Levi, Semprún, Perec und Modiano. Der Band richtet sich auch an Nicht-Romanisten, weshalb alle romanischsprachigen Zitate übersetzt wurden. Klappentext engl.: If one wants to understand what literature is from a longue durée perspective, it is instructive to examine the terms ‘fiction’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘memory’. Grouped into three sections, analytical studies each focusing on one of these three terms are compiled in this book. These studies introduce suitable theoretical models in this respect, which have been customised so that they can be used in textual analysis. In this way, the book aims to reveal important foundations of literary theory and analyse them in terms of their potential to explain literary texts. This also results in feedback effects between theoretical discourse and literary practice to the extent that they thematise their own foundations, often through self-reflection, and devise implicit theoretical models. The studies deal with texts from Il Novellino and by Dante, Boccaccio, Cervantes, Diderot, Jean Paul, Foscolo, Balzac, Baudelaire, Zola, Capuana, Proust, Simon, Levi, Semprún, Perec and Modiano. This book will also appeal to non-Romanists, which is why all quotations in a foreign language have been translated.

Anhand von Interviews geht die Autorin folgenden Fragen nach: Wie wirkt sich eine verschwiegene Vaterschaft unbewusst auf das Familiensystem aus? Welche Hintergründe führten zur Aufdeckung der Wahrheit? Wie gehen Betroffene mit der Erkenntnis um, dass biologischer und sozialer Vater nicht ein und dieselbe Person sind? Wie integrieren Kinder das Wissen um den anderen Vater in ihr Leben? Welche Unterschiede zeigen sich in den Entwicklungsverläufen von Kuckucks- und Spenderkindern?

    Klappentext: Will man aus einer Perspektive der longue durée begreifen, was Literatur ist, dann ist es aufschlussreich, sich mit den Begriffen »Fiktion«, »Wissen« und »Gedächtnis« zu befassen. Der vorliegende Band vereinigt, unterteilt in drei Abschnitte, Einzelstudien, die sich jeweils schwerpunktmäßig auf einen dieser drei Begriffe fokussieren. Dabei werden geeignete theoretische Modelle eingeführt und so zugeschnitten, dass sie textanalytisch nutzbar gemacht werden können. Ziel ist es jeweils, wichtige literaturtheoretische Grundlagen zu entfalten und diese in ihrem Erklärungspotential für literarische Texte zu erschließen. Es kommt dabei auch zu Rückkopplungen zwischen Theoriediskurs und literarischer Praxis, insofern diese nicht selten in selbstreflexiver Form die eigenen Grundlagen thematisiert und implizite Theoriemodelle entwirft. Behandelt werden Texte aus dem Novellino, von Dante, Boccaccio, Cervantes, Diderot, Jean Paul, Foscolo, Balzac, Baudelaire, Zola, Capuana, Proust, Simon, Levi, Semprún, Perec und Modiano. Der Band richtet sich auch an Nicht-Romanisten, weshalb alle romanischsprachigen Zitate übersetzt wurden. Klappentext engl.: If one wants to understand what literature is from a longue durée perspective, it is instructive to examine the terms ‘fiction’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘memory’. Grouped into three sections, analytical studies each focusing on one of these three terms are compiled in this book. These studies introduce suitable theoretical models in this respect, which have been customised so that they can be used in textual analysis. In this way, the book aims to reveal important foundations of literary theory and analyse them in terms of their potential to explain literary texts. This also results in feedback effects between theoretical discourse and literary practice to the extent that they thematise their own foundations, often through self-reflection, and devise implicit theoretical models. The studies deal with texts from Il Novellino and by Dante, Boccaccio, Cervantes, Diderot, Jean Paul, Foscolo, Balzac, Baudelaire, Zola, Capuana, Proust, Simon, Levi, Semprún, Perec and Modiano. This book will also appeal to non-Romanists, which is why all quotations in a foreign language have been translated.

    The focus of this article is the function of divine initiative in the structure of Paul’s theological epistemology. In two key passages, 1 Cor 1:26-31 and Rom 9:6-29, Paul deploys the language of “calling” to emphasize the concept of divine initiative, specifically highlighting God’s freedom to “call” whomever he wants, paying no regard to any status of the recipient of his gracious love. In both texts, Paul deploys the language of “calling” to shift the focus to the God who calls, and even though each section plays a different role in relation to its context, both emphasize that God’s initiative plays a key role in how one knows Paul’s God. In both Corinth and Rome, the communities to which Paul writes face a significant problem (among others): improper boasting. And the solution to improper boasting that Paul offers to both the Corinthian and Roman Christ-believers is epistemological in nature: it has to do with knowing Paul’s God and his plan for the world correctly. This essay aims to capture Paul’s theologizing in action on the specific matter of boasting and to demonstrate that these situations in Corinth and Rome call forth from Paul a similar strategy: to highlight God’s initiative in knowledge of the divine. Moreover, because the topics of “faith” and “justification” are usually deemed more central to Paul’s theology, the role of “knowledge” as such is an under-explored factor in Paul’s theologizing as a whole. But as an apocalyptic theologian and thinker, the idea of revelation and “knowledge” must be retained as a central theological concept in Paul’s theologizing. In other words, recovering the structure of Paul’s epistemology is a key task for understanding his gospel. Paul’s God is known because he makes himself known, definitively in the Christ-event and prior to all human movement toward this God.

    Following Garicano (2000), we consider groups whose members decide what knowledge to acquire and how to use this knowledge in production. If efficient production requires common knowledge, all group members should become workers and acquire common knowledge. But if efficient production requires diverse knowledge, one group member should become manager, acquire rare knowledge, and stand ready to help the other workers. In our laboratory experiment, we find that most groups eventually manage to coordinate on an efficient division of labor. Still, we find substantial adoption frictions. Coordination takes time, and some groups coordinate on an inefficient division of labor, probably because they do not understand what organization of knowledge is most efficient.

    This study is based on a survey of 764 students at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Lilongwe, Malawi. It aims to provide evidence on the extent of exposure to the pandemic among university students, their knowledge and beliefs related to the corona virus and the ways they protect themselves against getting infected, the sources of information that they rely on, and other factors influencing their knowledge, beliefs, and behavior. The study was undertaken in the period of February-March 2022 during which the fourth wave of the pandemic in the country took place and in this period the omicron variant of the virus dominated. We investigate factors associated with the extent of knowledge about the corona virus and COVID risk perceptions, information updating behavior, preferences for alternative protective measures, especially vaccination and use of facemasks. We also assessed beliefs about the effects of vaccination, trust in vaccines, and passive and active demand for vaccination. Finally, we investigate facemask use intensity and factors influencing the likelihood of infection and COVID-19 disease based on subjective self-reported experiences

    Eine soziale Wissenschaftstheorie schlägt einen Ausweg aus den aktuellen Kontroversen in der Wissenschaftsforschung vor, der erfordert: a) den nicht unabhängigen Charakter der Wissenschaftsphilosophie anzuerkennen; b) den erkenntnistheoretischen Status der Naturwissenschaften als einziges Erkenntnisideal zu überdenken; c) sich auf der Suche nach einer neuen methodischen Erfahrungauf die Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften zu konzentrieren; d) aufzuhören, Fallstudien als Version der ‚neutralen Sprache der Beobachtung‘ oder als ‚entscheidende Rechtfertigung‘ einer Theorie zu betrachten; und e) die Erklärungskraft der lokalen Kontextualisierung mit der Projektion und Konstruktion zukünftiger Wirkungskontexte wissenschaftlicher Ideen zu verbinden. Die Hinwendung zur Sozialität ordnet die Wissenschaftsforschung keiner Doktrin unter; sie ist vielmehr ein ökumenischer Appell zur Maximierung philosophischer Sensibilität und Offenheit. A social philosophy of science proposes a way out of current controversies in scientific research that requires: a) acknowledging the non-independent character of the philosophy of science; b) reconsidering the epistemological status of the natural sciences as the only ideal of knowledge; c) focusing on the social sciences and the humanities in search of a new methodological experience; d) ceasing to consider case studies as a version of the ‘neutral language of observation’ or as a ‘crucial justification’ of a theory; and e) combining the explanatory power of local contextualisation with the projection and construction of future contexts of the impact of scientific ideas. The shift towards sociality does not subordinate science studies to any doctrine; it is rather an ecumenical appeal to maximise philosophical sensitivity and openness.

    This paper offers a comparative analysis of Brazilian and Chinese partnerships with the United Nations (UN) as a mechanism and channel for policy transfer. In international policy travel flows, China and Brazil currently hold privileged places as hubs from which development-related policies travel and through which they circulate. Both countries have invested in systematising their development experience and transferring development policies within their regions and beyond - often through triangular cooperation, i.e. South-South cooperation supported by third actors such as UN entities. So far, however, this variegated engagement has remained under the radar of scholarly attention. To address this gap, we examine 35 policy transfer partnerships - 17 for Brazil and 18 for China - forged with different parts of the UN system over the last two decades. In order to offer a first systematic account of partnership trajectories, we provide an overview of partnership types (namely projects, programmes and policy centres) and transfer dimensions (including the policies themselves, transfer agents and transfer arrangements). Our comparative mapping presents an evolving landscape: while Brazil was first in institutionalising robust policy transfer partnerships with numerous UN entities and then slowed down, China started more cautiously but has significantly expanded its collaboration with the UN system since 2015. The partnerships analysed cover a substantial range of sectors, with a particular focus - for both Brazil and China - on agricultural policies. While Brazilian partnerships with the UN primarily engage with linkages between agriculture and social protection, however, China-UN partnerships focus more on productivity and market linkages. As the first comprehensive mapping and comparative analysis of Brazilian and Chinese policy transfer partnerships with the UN, this paper contributes to a better understanding of (triangular) cooperation schemes between international organisations and their member states, as well as debates about how policies deemed as successful travel around the globe.
