    This book presents the forefront of research in the emerging field of family language policy. This is the first volume to explore the link between family language policy, practice and management in the light of state and community language policy in more than 20 ethno-linguistic communities worldwide. Contributions by leading scholars from eight countries and three continents offer insights in how family language policy might be interpreted from various theoretical perspectives, using innovative methodologies.   In particular, the authors present novel data on successful family language practices such as faith-related literacy activities and homework sessions, as well as management, including prayer, choice of bilingual education, and links with mainstream and complementary learning, which permit the realization of language ideology within three contexts: immigrant families, inter-marriage families, and minority and majority families in conflict-ridden societies

(Barbara Kette) Mit vorliegender Analyse greift die Autorin, Professorin für Deutsche Sprache der Gegenwart an der Universität Potsdam, einen aktuellen Aspekt in der Diskussion zum Sprachwandel auf (s. auch die Artikel in der "SZ" vom 08.02.2012 und im Spiegel Heft 7/12). Anhand zahlreicher Beispiele, vor allem aus dem Berliner Stadtteil Kreuzberg, weist sie nach, dass es sich bei Kiezdeutsch nicht einfach nur um falsches Deutsch, sondern um einen sich neu entwickelnden Dialekt mit eigenen Strukturen handelt. Einwanderer greifen, so die Autorin, auf Satzstellungen zurück, die sie aus ihrer Muttersprache mitbringen und ins Deutsche kopieren ("Danach ich ruf' dich an") oder lassen Präpositionen weg ("Ich bin Alexanderplatz"), Verkürzungen oder neue Wortanwendungen sind die Regel. Die Autorin geht auf das Verhältnis von Standardsprache und Dialekt ein und plädiert für Kiezdeutsch als einen "multiethnischen" Dialekt, der sprachliche Vielfalt und Integration fördern kann. Ein sehr interessantes und zu kontroversen Diskussionen anregendes Buch.
