    The Internet has enabled new forms of large-scale collaboration. Voluntary contributions by large numbers of users and co-producers lead to new forms of production and innovation, as seen in Wikipedia, open source software development, in social networks or on user-generated content platforms as well as in many firm-driven Web 2.0 services. Large-scale collaboration on the Internet is an intriguing phenomenon for scholarly debate because it challenges well established insights into the governance of economic action, the sources of innovation, the possibilities of collective action and the social, legal and technical preconditions for successful collaboration. Although contributions to the debate from various disciplines and fine-grained empirical studies already exist, there still is a lack of an interdisciplinary approach.

    The concept of Open Innovation (OI) has breathed new life into both empirical research and industry practice concerned with distributed and collaborative modes of innovating. Certainly, the volume of OI research and its impact on practice has been remarkable. However, equally remarkable is the lack of balance. With few exceptions, the stories of OI are positive stories. A unbalanced focus on successes leads to open innovation imperatives and the conclusion that, for most firms, openness is good, and more openness is better. In this paper, we nuance this perception by empirically investigating the relationships between innovation openness and its effects on project abandonment and delays. Using survey data from Belgium, we find that open innovation strongly associates with an increased risk of both project abandonment and project delays.

    With the rapid development of ICT, smart society has been arrived. Smart devices also make user’s role change and be powerful. In other words, user's power is stronger by smart devices in smart media industry and especially social environment like application market is catalyst for growth of user's role and power. On the other hand, it is hard for a firm to have all abilities and sources in this sudden change. Therefore, firms have to make their strategy considering user's role. For that reason, firms can use networks such as university, researcher, firm and user from the viewpoint of open innovation. I argue that users have some roles as one of the main agents in smart media industry affecting firm's strategy and performance.
