    Les œuvres d'écrivains multilingues témoignent d'une conscience particulière de la langue étrangère qui, dans le contexte colonial, devient la langue de l'autre. Face au réalème de la colonisation, la décolonisation et du post-colonial, ces écrivains répondent par un travail d'écriture qui pose comme préalable à l'appréhension de l'autre sa langue et, découlant de la langue, sa culture. Partant d'un questionnement du fait colonial par l'intégration de la langue étrangère au sein de la narration, certaines œuvres problématisent plus explicitement la relation coloniale tout en dialoguant avec les théories littéraires et philosophiques de leur époque. Au début du modernisme, Joseph Conrad, dans sa fiction malaise ainsi que dans ses romans, fait apparaître l'autre colonial dans un miroir sémantique qui passe par la langue étrangère comme révélatrice d'altérité. Plus tard, Anthony Burgess, dans ses premiers romans, interroge les rôles historiquement assignés au colonisateur et à son autre colonisé pour inverser les problématiques du maître et de l'esclave. Défini par la critique comme écrivain post-colonial, Salman Rushdie, aussi bien dans ses romans que dans ses essais, remet en question la notion d'une écriture de l'autre s'opposant à une écriture nationale. Réfutant les binarismes de la colonisation, ces écrivains créent un espace littéraire qui questionne et dépasse le fait colonial pour se positionner en tant que véritable réponse à la notion de maître dans une société qui se dirige vers la globalisation économique et culturelle The works of multilingual writers show a particular consciousness of foreign language, which in the colonial context becomes the language of the other. Faced with the "realeme" of colonisation, decolonisation and the post-colonial, these writers respond with written works that presuppose the other's language and, from there, culture, to any apprehension of the other. Beginning with a questioning of the colonial space through the integration of foreign languages within the narration, some works question more explicitly the colonial relationship while, at the same time, dialoguing with contemporary literary theory and philosophy. At the beginning of modernism, Joseph Conrad, in his Malay fiction as in his novels, brings the colonial other to light in a semantic mirror, which uses foreign language as a means to reveal alterity. Later, Anthony Burgess, in his early novels, questions the historically assigned roles of the coloniser and his colonised other to invert the master/slave problematic. Critically assigned to the role of post-colonial writer, Salman Rushdie, both in his novels and in his essays, questions the notion of other as opposed to national literature. Refusing the binary categorisations of colonisation, these writers create a literary space which questions and goes beyond the colonial world and its accompanying divisions to be positioned as a real response to the notion of master in a world moving towards economic and cultural globalisation

    Les mouvements migratoires de la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle ont fait apparaître de nouvelles diasporas et de nouvelles cultures migrantes qui ont transformé à la fois les sociétés d'accueil et les (im)migrants eux-mêmes. Cette étude introduit le concept de déplacement et vise à montrer comment ce phénomène crée de nouvelles identités qui questionnent les conceptions traditionnelles de diaspora, de relations entre les hommes et d'interactions culturelles. Nous montrerons comment le dilemme de l'appartenance de l'être partagé entre le pays d'origine et le pays d'accueil dans un environnement diasporique et dans un environnement non-diasporique à l'évolution rapide, construit une véritable "conscience de la dislocation". Les romans d'Anita Desai écrits entre les années soixante et le début du vingt- et- unième siècle retracent le développement progressif de l'écriture indienne en anglais et cartographient les thèmes du déplacement et de la diaspora en particulier parce-que l'écrivaine elle-même, véritable "migrante du monde", évoque, à travers le portrait fictionnel de personnages diasporiques et non-diasporiques ses propres expériences d'adaptation et de construction de soi en tant qu'individu déterritorialisé plongé dans une société étrangère. Dans ce but, cette étude adoptera une démarche interdisciplinaire, à la fois d'ordre sociologique, littéraire, démographique, anthropologique et linguistique. De plus, cette étude analysera comment la crise d'identité et le sentiment d'aliénation trouvent leur origine dans une dialectique de l'espace et comment l'écriture de Desai les présente et les rééquilibre. Notre propos concerne non seulement la façon dont les espaces diasporiques et non-diasporiques correspondent à différentes manières de les concevoir comme des espaces de doute, de désir et d'ouverture au futur, mais aussi la façon dont ces nouveaux territoires peuvent être vus comme des espaces mentaux autant que physiques agissant comme intermédiaires entre les espaces sociaux, politiques et culturels soumis aux processus de modernisation Migratory movements in the second half of the twentieth century have led to the emergence of new diasporas and migrant cultures that have transformed both host societies as well as (im)migrants. This thesis introduces the concept of displacement to see how this phenomenon is propitious to newer identities that challenge the classical notions of diasporas, human relationships and cross-cultural encounters. We will show how the dilemma of be(long)ing - between one's native country and one's adopted country in a diasporic setting and rapidly changing non-diasporic settings - is challenging and fashions the 'dislocation consciousness'. The novels of Anita Desai written from the 1960s to the beginning of the twenty-first century map the displacement and diasporic themes, especially because this writer herself - being a global migrant - reflects her own experiences of appropriation, negotiation and self-refashioning as a deterritorialized individual in an alien society. This thesis will take an interdisciplinary approach (social, literary, demographic, anthropology and linguistics) to study this. We will also analyze how the dialectics of space becomes the cause of identity crisis and a sense of alienation of the human existence and how Desai's literary art presents and counters them. The focus will be also on how diasporic and non- diasporic spaces have become spaces of doubt, yearning, and possibility and how these new territories can be seen as 'mental as well as physical' spaces having a capacity to transcend the boundaries of social, political and culture during 'modernization'

    Depuis les années 80, l'attention accordée aux littératures postcoloniales n'a cessé de grandir. À partir d'un corpus de romans francophones (de Patrick Chamoiseau, Maryse Condé, Ahmadou Kourouma et Abdourahman Waberi) et anglophones (de V. S. Naipaul, Ben Okri, Arundhati Roy et Salman Rushdie), ce travail propose une définition précise de la notion d'hybridité, fréquemment associée à ces littératures. Il analyse ensuite la manière dont cette hybridité s'exprime et tente de montrer en quoi elle s'inscrit dans une stratégie identitaire spécifique. Les œuvres postcoloniales, dotées d'un héritage mixte et parfois contradictoire, naissent en terrain instable, d'autant plus qu'elles s'adressent à des publics complexes et qu'elles sont souvent dépendantes d'une reconnaissance européenne. Ce sont des littératures périphériques, dont la place et la légitimité ne sont pas assurées. Pour cette raison, elles doivent définir avec soin leur contexte d'énonciation et développer une scénographie particulière. Il apparaît ainsi que ces littératures s'appuient sur un ethos du dépouillement, vécu certes comme une souffrance mais aussi comme une libération. L'hybride interroge également la notion d'appartenance. Incarnation de toutes les apories identitaires, il force à repenser les repères traditionnels. Enfin, la parole hybride - en perpétuelle négociation - se pose en parole nouvelle, à l'image d'un monde en mutation. Plutôt que de présenter le déchirement identitaire uniquement comme la condition malheureuse de l'individu postcolonial, les littératures postcoloniales en font une situation privilégiée pour élaborer de nouvelles manières d'être au monde Since the 80s, the postcolonial literatures have been raising increasing interest. Through a corpus of francophone and anglophone novels (from Chamoiseau, Condé, Kourouma, Waberi, Naipaul, Okri, Roy and Rushdie), this study intend to give a clear definition of the notion of hybridity, which is often associated to these literatures. Then, it analyses the way this hybridity is expressed in the novels and tries to show in which way it inscribes itself in an identity strategy. Postcolonial novels, with their diverse and sometimes contradictory heritage, are born on shaky ground, especially as their intended audience is often complex and as they often depend on recognition from Europe. They are peripheral literatures, whose place and legitimacy are not guaranteed. As such, they need to specify their context of enunciation all the more carefully and to develop a very specific scenography. It appears that these literatures rely on an ethos of loss, which is certainly felt as a suffering, but also as liberating. The hybrid also questions the notion of belonging. Embodiment of many identity aporias, it forces to think anew the traditional references. Finally, hybrid discourse, pervaded by perpetual negociation, sets itself up to be a new discourse, the reflection of the today's changing world. Rather than to represent the identity crisis exclusively as the unhappy condition of the postcolonial individual, the postcolonial literatures turn it into a privileged position from which to elaborate new ways to be in the world

    Ce travail de recherche tend à singulariser le roman féminin francophone contemporain du Maghreb, du Machreq et d'Afrique subsaharienne voire de France. Le corpus analysé se constitue de romans d'expression française écrits par des femmes et des hommes issus de ces diverses aires géoculturelles. Des éléments esthétiques et génériques ont été mis en relief par l'application de la narratologie, de la sociocritique, de la psychanalyse, de la psychocritique et de la mythocritique. Ces différentes approches analytiques nous ont permis d'étudier les composantes constitutives du genre romanesque comme la forme, le contexte, la relation de l'intériorité et l'imaginaire. Les éléments observés fondent une poétique du roman francophone féminin. Certaines caractéristiques du genre romanesque analysées semblent participer de l'androgynie de l'imaginaire, de la « transculturalité » et de « l'ego-histoire » In this research, I investigate the particularities of the contemporary francophone feminine novel from Maghreb, Mashrek and sub-Saharan Africa or France. The corpus I study is composed of feminine and masculine francophone novels written by authors coming from these various areas. I use narratology, socio-criticism, psychoanalysis, psychocristicism and mythocristicism in order to bring out aesthetic and generic characteristics. Through these analytic methods, I analyze the components of the novel: the style, the context, the interiority and the imagination. Based on the examined elements, I establish the poetics of the francophone feminine novel.     Les mouvements migratoires de la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle ont fait apparaître de nouvelles diasporas et de nouvelles cultures migrantes qui ont transformé à la fois les sociétés d'accueil et les (im)migrants eux-mêmes. Cette étude introduit le concept de déplacement et vise à montrer comment ce phénomène crée de nouvelles identités qui questionnent les conceptions traditionnelles de diaspora, de relations entre les hommes et d'interactions culturelles. Nous montrerons comment le dilemme de l'appartenance de l'être partagé entre le pays d'origine et le pays d'accueil dans un environnement diasporique et dans un environnement non-diasporique à l'évolution rapide, construit une véritable "conscience de la dislocation". Les romans d'Anita Desai écrits entre les années soixante et le début du vingt- et- unième siècle retracent le développement progressif de l'écriture indienne en anglais et cartographient les thèmes du déplacement et de la diaspora en particulier parce-que l'écrivaine elle-même, véritable "migrante du monde", évoque, à travers le portrait fictionnel de personnages diasporiques et non-diasporiques ses propres expériences d'adaptation et de construction de soi en tant qu'individu déterritorialisé plongé dans une société étrangère. Dans ce but, cette étude adoptera une démarche interdisciplinaire, à la fois d'ordre sociologique, littéraire, démographique, anthropologique et linguistique. De plus, cette étude analysera comment la crise d'identité et le sentiment d'aliénation trouvent leur origine dans une dialectique de l'espace et comment l'écriture de Desai les présente et les rééquilibre. Notre propos concerne non seulement la façon dont les espaces diasporiques et non-diasporiques correspondent à différentes manières de les concevoir comme des espaces de doute, de désir et d'ouverture au futur, mais aussi la façon dont ces nouveaux territoires peuvent être vus comme des espaces mentaux autant que physiques agissant comme intermédiaires entre les espaces sociaux, politiques et culturels soumis aux processus de modernisation Migratory movements in the second half of the twentieth century have led to the emergence of new diasporas and migrant cultures that have transformed both host societies as well as (im)migrants. This thesis introduces the concept of displacement to see how this phenomenon is propitious to newer identities that challenge the classical notions of diasporas, human relationships and cross-cultural encounters. We will show how the dilemma of be(long)ing - between one's native country and one's adopted country in a diasporic setting and rapidly changing non-diasporic settings - is challenging and fashions the 'dislocation consciousness'. The novels of Anita Desai written from the 1960s to the beginning of the twenty-first century map the displacement and diasporic themes, especially because this writer herself - being a global migrant - reflects her own experiences of appropriation, negotiation and self-refashioning as a deterritorialized individual in an alien society. This thesis will take an interdisciplinary approach (social, literary, demographic, anthropology and linguistics) to study this. We will also analyze how the dialectics of space becomes the cause of identity crisis and a sense of alienation of the human existence and how Desai's literary art presents and counters them. The focus will be also on how diasporic and non- diasporic spaces have become spaces of doubt, yearning, and possibility and how these new territories can be seen as 'mental as well as physical' spaces having a capacity to transcend the boundaries of social, political and culture during 'modernization'

    Depuis les années 80, l'attention accordée aux littératures postcoloniales n'a cessé de grandir. À partir d'un corpus de romans francophones (de Patrick Chamoiseau, Maryse Condé, Ahmadou Kourouma et Abdourahman Waberi) et anglophones (de V. S. Naipaul, Ben Okri, Arundhati Roy et Salman Rushdie), ce travail propose une définition précise de la notion d'hybridité, fréquemment associée à ces littératures. Il analyse ensuite la manière dont cette hybridité s'exprime et tente de montrer en quoi elle s'inscrit dans une stratégie identitaire spécifique. Les œuvres postcoloniales, dotées d'un héritage mixte et parfois contradictoire, naissent en terrain instable, d'autant plus qu'elles s'adressent à des publics complexes et qu'elles sont souvent dépendantes d'une reconnaissance européenne. Ce sont des littératures périphériques, dont la place et la légitimité ne sont pas assurées. Pour cette raison, elles doivent définir avec soin leur contexte d'énonciation et développer une scénographie particulière. Il apparaît ainsi que ces littératures s'appuient sur un ethos du dépouillement, vécu certes comme une souffrance mais aussi comme une libération. L'hybride interroge également la notion d'appartenance. Incarnation de toutes les apories identitaires, il force à repenser les repères traditionnels. Enfin, la parole hybride - en perpétuelle négociation - se pose en parole nouvelle, à l'image d'un monde en mutation. Plutôt que de présenter le déchirement identitaire uniquement comme la condition malheureuse de l'individu postcolonial, les littératures postcoloniales en font une situation privilégiée pour élaborer de nouvelles manières d'être au monde Since the 80s, the postcolonial literatures have been raising increasing interest. Through a corpus of francophone and anglophone novels (from Chamoiseau, Condé, Kourouma, Waberi, Naipaul, Okri, Roy and Rushdie), this study intend to give a clear definition of the notion of hybridity, which is often associated to these literatures. Then, it analyses the way this hybridity is expressed in the novels and tries to show in which way it inscribes itself in an identity strategy. Postcolonial novels, with their diverse and sometimes contradictory heritage, are born on shaky ground, especially as their intended audience is often complex and as they often depend on recognition from Europe. They are peripheral literatures, whose place and legitimacy are not guaranteed. As such, they need to specify their context of enunciation all the more carefully and to develop a very specific scenography. It appears that these literatures rely on an ethos of loss, which is certainly felt as a suffering, but also as liberating. The hybrid also questions the notion of belonging. Embodiment of many identity aporias, it forces to think anew the traditional references. Finally, hybrid discourse, pervaded by perpetual negociation, sets itself up to be a new discourse, the reflection of the today's changing world. Rather than to represent the identity crisis exclusively as the unhappy condition of the postcolonial individual, the postcolonial literatures turn it into a privileged position from which to elaborate new ways to be in the world

    Ce travail de recherche tend à singulariser le roman féminin francophone contemporain du Maghreb, du Machreq et d'Afrique subsaharienne voire de France. Le corpus analysé se constitue de romans d'expression française écrits par des femmes et des hommes issus de ces diverses aires géoculturelles. Des éléments esthétiques et génériques ont été mis en relief par l'application de la narratologie, de la sociocritique, de la psychanalyse, de la psychocritique et de la mythocritique. Ces différentes approches analytiques nous ont permis d'étudier les composantes constitutives du genre romanesque comme la forme, le contexte, la relation de l'intériorité et l'imaginaire. Les éléments observés fondent une poétique du roman francophone féminin. Certaines caractéristiques du genre romanesque analysées semblent participer de l'androgynie de l'imaginaire, de la « transculturalité » et de « l'ego-histoire » In this research, I investigate the particularities of the contemporary francophone feminine novel from Maghreb, Mashrek and sub-Saharan Africa or France. The corpus I study is composed of feminine and masculine francophone novels written by authors coming from these various areas. I use narratology, socio-criticism, psychoanalysis, psychocristicism and mythocristicism in order to bring out aesthetic and generic characteristics. Through these analytic methods, I analyze the components of the novel: the style, the context, the interiority and the imagination. Based on the examined elements, I establish the poetics of the francophone feminine novel. Some features of this genre of novel refer to "the androgyny of imagination", "cross-culturality" and "ego-histoire

    Les œuvres d'écrivains multilingues témoignent d'une conscience particulière de la langue étrangère qui, dans le contexte colonial, devient la langue de l'autre. Face au réalème de la colonisation, la décolonisation et du post-colonial, ces écrivains répondent par un travail d'écriture qui pose comme préalable à l'appréhension de l'autre sa langue et, découlant de la langue, sa culture. Partant d'un questionnement du fait colonial par l'intégration de la langue étrangère au sein de la narration, certaines œuvres problématisent plus explicitement la relation coloniale tout en dialoguant avec les théories littéraires et philosophiques de leur époque. Au début du modernisme, Joseph Conrad, dans sa fiction malaise ainsi que dans ses romans, fait apparaître l'autre colonial dans un miroir sémantique qui passe par la langue étrangère comme révélatrice d'altérité. Plus tard, Anthony Burgess, dans ses premiers romans, interroge les rôles historiquement assignés au colonisateur et à son autre colonisé pour inverser les problématiques du maître et de l'esclave. Défini par la critique comme écrivain post-colonial, Salman Rushdie, aussi bien dans ses romans que dans ses essais, remet en question la notion d'une écriture de l'autre s'opposant à une écriture nationale. Réfutant les binarismes de la colonisation, ces écrivains créent un espace littéraire qui questionne et dépasse le fait colonial pour se positionner en tant que véritable réponse à la notion de maître dans une société qui se dirige vers la globalisation économique et culturelle The works of multilingual writers show a particular consciousness of foreign language, which in the colonial context becomes the language of the other. Faced with the "realeme" of colonisation, decolonisation and the post-colonial, these writers respond with written works that presuppose the other's language and, from there, culture, to any apprehension of the other. Beginning with a questioning of the colonial space through the integration of foreign languages within the narration, some works question more explicitly the colonial relationship while, at the same time, dialoguing with contemporary literary theory and philosophy. At the beginning of modernism, Joseph Conrad, in his Malay fiction as in his novels, brings the colonial other to light in a semantic mirror, which uses foreign language as a means to reveal alterity. Later, Anthony Burgess, in his early novels, questions the historically assigned roles of the coloniser and his colonised other to invert the master/slave problematic. Critically assigned to the role of post-colonial writer, Salman Rushdie, both in his novels and in his essays, questions the notion of other as opposed to national literature. Refusing the binary categorisations of colonisation, these writers create a literary space which questions and goes beyond the colonial world and its accompanying divisions to be positioned as a real response to the notion of master in a world moving towards economic and cultural globalisation
