On one hand, forces like changing technology and evolving reader expectations lead to the development of specific editorial products, while on the other hand, they threaten traditional forms of knowledge and methods of textual scholarship. Using the experiences of philologists, text critics, text encoders, scientific editors, and media analysts, Digital Critical Editions ranges from philology in ancient Alexandria to the vision of user-supported online critical editing, from peer-directed texts distributed to a few to community-edited products shaped by the many. The authors discuss the production and accessibility of documents, the emergence of tools used in scholarly work, new editing regimes, and how the readers' expectations evolve as they navigate digital texts. The goal: exploring questions such as, What kind of text is produced? Why is it produced in this particular way? Digital Critical Editions provides digital editors, researchers, readers, and technological actors with insights for addressing disruptions that arise from the clash of traditional and digital cultures, while also offering a practical roadmap for processing traditional texts and collections with today's state-of-the-art editing and research techniques thus addressing readers' new emerging reading habits"-- "Critical editions are going on-line, but not without intense controversy.     Cette Histoire de la littérature française du XIXe siècle a l’ambition de renouveler le regard que nous portons sur la production littéraire de ce siècle. Comment rendre sensible le lien qui unit le temps de l’Histoire et celui des imaginaires littéraires ? Pour répondre à cette question, ce livre articule de manière convergente une histoire socio-intellectuelle du siècle et l’étude des individualités les plus fortes. Il entrelace des chapitres sur l’évolution générale des contenus et des formes, et des analyses consacrées aux auteurs. Il invite à une lecture stéréoscopique de l’ensemble, de sorte que l’historicité et la singularité de chaque œuvre soient également prises en compte.     Cet ouvrage analyse le devenir d'un « imaginaire raciologique », c'est-à-dire des représentations fondées sur l'idée de l'existence de « races » humaines - ces représentations qui se sont développées, dans le cadre d'une anthropologie classificatoire, au cours du xixe siècle, selon une pensée de type polygéniste, avec les implications racistes qu'elle a pu véhiculer ou légitimer. Cet imaginaire raciologique n'est pas sans contradiction : il postule parfois aussi bien une fixité des « races » qu'une peur qu'elles ne se mélangent. Mais dans un cas comme dans l'autre s'établissent des hiérarchies, mises au service de différents discours de domination et d'exclusion. La spécificité de l'approche comparatiste développée ici consiste à s'interroger sur la diffusion, en France, de ces discours raciologiques, mais aussi sur leurs réinterprétations (souvent mises au service d'un discours nationaliste), au xxe siècle, dans l'espace soviétique et russe, que ce soit dans la littérature ou dans des corpus de type anthropologique, sociologique, politique ou philosophique.

    Cet ouvrage comble les lacunes dans la connaissance d'ensemble que l'on a en France de la satire illustrée entre 1830 et 1871 : comme si le génie d'artistes fameux (Daumier notamment, ici éclairé d'un jour nouveau) avait jusqu'à présent occulté la masse des dessinateurs et des journaux qui ont formé l'imaginaire collectif de nos ancêtres, les Européens. Les explications d'images ici proposées examinent dans quelle mesure la caricature a développé une culture de résistance à l'Europe des rois et des bourgeois. L'attention est concentrée sur les expressions de l'aspiration démocratique, sur les effets des mouvements ouvrier et socialiste naissants, sur la représentation des efforts d'émancipation des femmes. Grâce à plus de 500 reproductions, les auteurs montrent comment interpréter une iconographie souvent réduite à sa dimension esthétique par l'histoire de l'art. L'enjeu est de réapprendre à lire des dessins en quelque sorte coupés de leur sens socio-politique - leur valeur marchande ayant très tôt conduit à les détacher des journaux satiriques constituant dans la plupart des cas leur support originel. Car le discours iconique n'est pas une simple illustration. Il crée son code et ses stéréotypes. Polysémique, il propose sa propre vision du monde. De même qu'une intertextualité des textes, il y a en somme une intericonicité des images, elle-même prise dans l'intermédialité générale du siècle (presse, chanson, littérature, théâtre, peinture et arts plastiques). L'ambition affichée est de contribuer à la formation d'une discipline en émergence entre l'histoire, l'histoire de l'art et l'histoire littéraire : les études culturelles médiatiques.

    Cette Histoire de la littérature française du XIXe siècle a l’ambition de renouveler le regard que nous portons sur la production littéraire de ce siècle. Comment rendre sensible le lien qui unit le temps de l’Histoire et celui des imaginaires littéraires ? Pour répondre à cette question, ce livre articule de manière convergente une histoire socio-intellectuelle du siècle et l’étude des individualités les plus fortes. Il entrelace des chapitres sur l’évolution générale des contenus et des formes, et des analyses consacrées aux auteurs. Il invite à une lecture stéréoscopique de l’ensemble, de sorte que l’historicité et la singularité de chaque œuvre soient également prises en compte. Ce livre fort et riche, original et efficace, est destiné aux étudiants de lettres – classes préparatoires, premier et second cycles.     1789 a doré le citoyen d’un nouveau corps juridique, politique et social. Dans la littérature postrévolutionnaire, écrire le corps, c’est scruter les marques inscrites dans les chairs par la loi, les signes tracés par la société, les cicatrices laissées par l’Histoire. Les études réunies dans ce volume interrogent ces nouveaux paradigmes de la représentation littéraire du corps dans quatre perspectives : en premier lieu est explorée la signification politique qu’il prend chez Sade, Balzac ou dans le théâtre révolutionnaire ; est développée ensuite une analyse du difficile transfert du corps du roi, dégradé chez Michelet, au corps du peuple chez Dumas ou à celui d’un nouveau Christ chez les saint-simoniens ; en troisième lieu, l’interrogation porte sur les modalités de l’incarnation de l’Histoire chez les personnages de Chateaubriand, de Balzac ou de Barbey d’Aurevilly ; enfin est étudiée la relation entre corps et création, dans la poésie de Baudelaire ou dans l’écriture autobiographique de George Sand. Du théâtre comme espace où l’acteur incarne les rôles sociaux au roman où la corporéité ancre le personnage dans l’Histoire, ce volume montre comment la littérature du XIXe siècle a recouru au corps pour figurer les rapports, souvent conflictuels, de l’individu à la société, au politique et à l’Histoire.
