    Las reflexiones sobre la actividad de traducción y sus resultados han estado marcadas históricamente por el mayor o menor alejamiento respecto de la obra original. También a través del tiempo se ha intentado dar respuesta a la pregunta ¿qué es una buena traducción? con la formulación de reglas generales, es decir, prescribiendo. Afortunadamente, hacia mediados del siglo XX, comienza a sistematizarse el estudio de la actividad de traducción y se entiende la complejidad que la sustenta, ya que en ella confluyen aspectos diversos, tanto lingüísticos como cognitivos, culturales o comparativos. De allí en más, los estudios sobre la traducción abandonan la prescripción y asumen una mirada descriptiva y explicativa, que se relaciona con las normas del género discursivo que se traduce, con las normas sociales del público para el cual se traduce y con las que se establecen entre la editorial o cliente y el traductor. Desde las aparentemente ingenuas definiciones de traducción, pasando por un recorte histórico de la evolución de su estudio, este libro recorre la relación entre lingüística y traducción, discute la evolución de los conceptos de unidad de traducción y equivalencia, expone la problematización del sentido en la lexicología y la terminología, que son campos afines con la traducción, e introduce la relación entre cultura y traducción.

    Abstract: The present paper seeks to analyze Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea in the light of the theory of ecocriticism. Ecocriticism focuses on the relationships of individuals with nature and how their interactions are portrayed in a literary work. Ecocritics consider nature as an active participant in literary works that possesses agency. Throughout history, religion and industrial developments affected nature and man’s relation to it. Religion put so much value on man that he ventured to destroy nature for his own good and industrialism estranged man from nature to the extent that now nature and culture or civilization are two different entities. Nature and wild life turn into the objects in the hand of modern culture and technology. Wide Sargasso Sea shows how agent of culture, Mr. Rochester exploits and dominates Antoinette as agent of nature since he lost his connection with nature as a native of an industrial country like England. As a woman she is more harmonious with nature as nature

    It would be hard to overestimate the significance of Classical mythology for the literature, drama, music, pictorial arts, emblematics, and festivity culture of the Renaissance. The volume presents the proceedings of a colloquium organized by the Wolfenbüttel Work Group on Renaissance Research titled ""Renaissance Culture and Classical Mythology"" (Herzog August Library, 7-10 October 1996, with B. Guthmüller in the chair). The aim of the colloquium was first to cast light on some new and lesser known aspects of myth in Renaissance culture, and second to provide a forum for new interpretations and evaluations on a number of controversial issues
