En insistant sur les ambiguïtés, les chevauchements et les interactions entre ces deux thèmes dans la littérature française de l'époque médiévale à nos jours, ce recueil d'articles démontre leur porosité et leur instabilité. Le terme 'é/change' - écrit avec une barre oblique - entend souligner ainsi la tension inhérente à la littérature française que révèle ce volume issu d'une conférence qui s'est tenue à Queen's University Belfast en Mai 2008 sur ce même thème. Whereas the notions of exchange and change are often the subject of enquiry in the context of financial, linguistic or anthropological discourses, they are rarely analysed for the essential role they play in the literary domain.     En 2010, deux équipes de chercheurs des Universités de Paderborn et du Maine ont confronté leurs perspectives sur ce qui est susceptible de produire l'« identité », la conviction d'une appartenance commune. Par « facteurs », les contributeurs entendent les promoteurs autant que les supports et les références. Loin de projeter dans le passé un modèle européen commun, arbitraire et idéalisé, ils présentent la complexité des processus de cristallisation d'un « nous » - donc d'un « eux » -, variable en fonction du temps et du lieu. Ils privilégient des études de cas dans le champ de la littérature, du droit, de la presse, de l'enseignement ou du culte, sans négliger l'analyse théorique des concepts. Im Oktober 2010 trafen zwei Forschergruppen der Universitäten Le Mans und Paderborn zusammen, um sich über die Frage nach Möglichkeiten der Identitätskonstruktion - der Frage also, was es Menschen ermöglicht, sich als Gemeinschaft zu begreifen - auszutauschen.     As theoretical positions and as affective experiences, the twin currents of contrition - guilt and shame - permeate literary discourse and figure prominently in discussions of ethics, history, sexuality and social hierarchy. This collection of essays, on French and francophone prose, poetry, drama, visual art, cinema and thought, assesses guilt and shame in relation to structures of social morality, language and self-expression, the thinking of trauma, and the ethics of forgiveness. The authors approach their subjects via close readings and comparative study, drawing on such thinkers as Adorno, Derrida, Jankélévitch and Irigaray.     Hitherto undiscovered yet fundamental historical and literary texts from the Pacific provide the subject matter of this collection of essays which sets out to explore the new forms of writing and hybrid identities emerging from both past and contemporary cultural contact and exchange in the 'South Seas'. This is also a weaving of the connections between Francophone and Anglophone writers long separated by colonial history. Luis Cardoso, writing in Portuguese from East Timor offers further points of contrast. The places of encounter - the beaches of Tahiti, the retelling of the texts of oral tradition, indigenous mastery of writing and appropriation of Western technology, the construction of contemporary Pacific anthologies or emerging post-colonial writing and translation - are sites of interaction and mixing that also involve negotiations of mana or power.

    From Pierre Loti's mythical and feminised Tahitians to Déwé Gorodé's silenced women, the outcomes of such negotiations are dynamic and different syncretisms. Two chapters reexamine the theoretical concept of hybridity from these Pacific perspectives.     "Delving into how the traumatic experience of the Second World War formed - or perhaps malformed - the post-war experimental novel, this book explores how the symbolic violence of post-war normalization warped societies' perception of reality. Andrew Hodgson explores how the novel was used by authors to attempt to communicate in such a climate, building a memorial space that has been omitted from literatures and societies of the post-war period. Hodgson investigates this space as it is portrayed in experimental modern British and French fiction, considering themes of amnesia, myopia, delusion and dementia. Such themes are constantly referred back to and posit in narrative a motive for the very broken forms these books often take - books in boxes; of spare pages to be shuffled at the reader's will; with holes in pages; missing whole sections of the alphabet; or books written and then entirely scrubbed out in smudged black ink.     The treatise deals with the pre-history of the modern French novella, which has constituted a new paradigm of genre history within the field of short narrations since 1829. Contrary to claims that Mérimée's, Stendhal's, and Balzac's novellas have nothing in common with the narrative of the 18th and early 19th century, it is intended to demonstrate that the latter provides an arsenal for the renewal of the genre around 1830. A relatively stable consciousness concerning the genre, clearly differentiating between conte and nouvelle until the mid-1760, functions as starting point. This duality, however, starts slackening when the successful conte moral transcends into the field of the nouvelle - an event which robs the terms conte and nouvelle of their distinctiveness. Both of the two most popular themes of the conte moral, namely marital development and education, are realized in a couple of textual strategies which are - despite a change in social conditions - continuing up to the first two decades of the 19th century. This continuum usually involves distortion, parody, and afunctionality. Simultaneous to the transformations maintaining this system, the observer also traces transformations breaking those rules as seen in the works of Diderot, Mme de Staël, Sade, and Balzac, which makes it impossible to integrate their narrations into the harmonized ideology of the conte moral. The nouvelle receives further impulse from the "true story", which can be settled somewhere between journalistic information and literary fiction. It is a heterogeneous field of narrations sharing the reference to the reality external of literary fiction and the themes of the unexpected, the inexplicable, and the violation of the rules. Die Arbeit untersucht die Vorgeschichte der modernen französischen Novelle, die ab 1829 ein neues Paradigma in der Gattungsgeschichte der Kurznarrativik bildet. Entgegen der Behauptung, die Novellen Mérimées, Stendhals u. Balzacs hätten nichts mit den Erzählungen des 18. u. frühen 19. Jh. zu tun, wird gezeigt, daß letztere das Arsenal für die Erneuerung der Gattung um 1830 bereitsstellen. Ausgangspunkt der Entwicklung ist ein relativ stabiles Gattungsbewußtsein, das bis Mitte der 1760er Jahre klar zwischen conte u. nouvelle unterscheidet. Diese Opposition beginnt sich mit der Erfolgswelle des conte moral aufzulösen, da dieser in das Feld der nouvelle übertritt, so daß die Gattungsbezeichnungen conte und nouvelle ihre distinktive Kraft einbüßen. Die beiden beliebtesten Themen des conte moral, die Eheanbahnung und die Erziehung, manifestieren sich in einer Reihe textueller Strategien, die trotz der veränderten gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen bis in die ersten beiden Jahrzehnte des 19. Jh. überdauern, was in der Regel mit Verzerrungen, Parodie-rung und Afunktionalität der verwendeten Erzählmuster einhergeht. Zeitgleich zu diesen systemerhaltenden Transformationen lassen sich bei Autoren wie Diderot, Mme de Staël, Sade und Balzac systemsprengende Transformationen feststellen, die sich nicht mehr in die harmonisierende Ideo-logie des conte moral integrieren lassen. Weitere Impulse bekommt die nouvelle von der 'wahren Geschichte', die in der Grauzone zwischen journalistischer Information und literarischer Fiktion angesiedelt ist. Es handelt sich um ein heterogenes Feld von Erzählungen, deren gemeinsamer Nenner die Berufung auf die außerliterarische Wirklichkeit und die Thematisierung des Unerwarteten, des Unerklärlichen u. des Normverstoßes ist.
