    How can sincere, well-meaning people unintentionally perpetuate discrimination based on race, sex, sexuality, or other sociopolitical factors? To address this question, Lara Trout engages a neglected dimension of Charles S. PeirceGs philosophyGhuman embodimentGin order to highlight the compatibility between PeirceGs ideas and contemporary work in social criticism focusing on feminism and race theory. Trout explains unintentional discrimination by using the work of the contemporary neuroscientist Antonio Damasio to situate Peircean affectivity within a post-Darwinian context. Because children are vulnerable, na+ve, and dependent upon their caretakers for survival, they must trust their caretakersG testimony about reality. This dependency, coupled with societal norms that reinforce historically dominant perspectives, fosters the internalization of discriminatory habits, which then function nonconsciously in adulthood. The Politics of Survival brings Peirce and social criticism into conversation. Trout uses this dialogue to show how the blind spots of nonconscious discrimination are possible and to highlight a Peircean network of communally situated remedies, including agapic love, critical common-sensism, scientific method, and self-control.

    Hauptbeschreibung Jörg Wernecke entwirft in seiner Untersuchung "Handeln und Bedeutung" eine Propädeutik zur Praktischen Philosophie. Darin greift er auf die beiden Begriffe "Handeln" und "Bedeutung" zurück, um in ihrer Bezugnahme folgendem Problem nachzugehen: Handeln beinhaltet nicht nur einen funktionalen bzw. Zweck-Mittel-Bezug, sondern im Kontext etwa der Ethik und Politik auch die Notwendigkeit eines eine Bedeutung, einen Sinn erschließenden, hermeneutischen Vermögens. Innerhalb einer gelingenden lebensweltlichen Praxis sind wir stets auf ein Verstehen, auf Orientierung, auf die Integration von Bedeutungs- und Sinnbezügen angewiesen, ein Problemzusammenhang, der durch den Ausdruck "hermeneutische Pragmatik" gekennzeichnet wird. Letztere Kennzeichnung beinhaltet noch eine weitergehende Fragestellung: In welcher Form und in welchem Umfang kann eine Pragmatik eine Fundierungs- bzw. Begründungsleistung für die praktische Philosophie erbringen? In diesem problemzentrierten Kontext unterzieht Wernecke Wittgenstein, Peirce und Heidegger vor dem Hintergrund eines Sprachhandelns, einer Zeichenhandlung und einer hermeneutisch-fundamentalontologischen Praxis einer Untersuchung mit dem Ziel, die Vielschichtigkeit, die Differenziertheit des Phänomens Praxis bzw. Pragmatik erkennbar werden zu lassen.
