    Abstract ; In einer Zeit unübertroffener Kunstfertigkeit, im Schattenschatten großer Erzählgenies wie Victor Hugo und Honoré de Balzac aufgewachsen, von ihnen geradezu erdrückt werden die drei Dichterfreunde, Théophile Gautier, Champfleury und Charles Baudelaire, auf ihrer Suche nach neuen ästhetischen Mitteln, nach einer Literatur, die nicht mehr gelesen, sondern physisch empfunden werden soll, in ETA Hoffmann einen Autor feiern, der ihnen eine neue, anti-erzählerische Form bietet. Am Beispiel dieser drei französischen Schriftsteller wird in der Arbeit gezeigt, wie ausgehend von der durch Walter Scott geprägten Entdeckung Hoffmanns und seines literarischen Verfahrens die Karikatur zur neuen ästhetischen Methode der Erforschung unentdeckter Realitäten wird.

    Abstract ; Thema der Arbeit ist das Straßburger Eulenspiegelbuch S 1515 mit seinen Illustrationen. Die inhomogene Illustrierung des Werkes weist auf mehrere Reißer hin. Insgesamt lassen sich fünf Stile unterscheiden. Da einige qualitativ schwächere Holzschnitte deutliche Parallelen zu Holzschnitten aus der von Hans Baldung Grien gefertigten Gruppe aufweisen, ist es wahrscheinlich, dass die Herstellung der schwächeren Holzschnitte zeitlich gesehen nach derjenigen der Arbeiten Baldungs erfolgte, d. h. nach dessen Vorlage oder durch seine Unterstützung in seiner am Druckort Straßburg angesiedelten Werkstatt. Unter anderem Aufgrund stilistischer Details und der der Satzspiegelbreite des Buches besser angepaßten Verwendung eines Querformates konnten die Holzschnitte der Gruppe B im Vergleich zu allen anderen als etwas jünger eingestuft werden. Wegen ihrer stilistischen Qualität, die eine direkte Abhängigkeit von Baldung erkennen läßt, können diese Arbeiten nur in Kenntnis des Oeuvres Baldungs entstanden sein, wahrscheinlich in direktem Zusammenhang mit dessen Werkstatt in Straßburg. Ein Großteil der Illustrationen des Eulenspiegelbuches ist folglich in direktem Zusammenhang mit der Straßburger Werkstatt Hans Baldung Griens zu vermuten. D. h., die Illustrationen sind trotz mehrerer Künstlerhände in einem engeren zeitlichen und geographischen Zusammenhang entstanden. Die Holzschnitte der Gruppe B wurden auf stilkritischem Wege als Arbeiten des Schweizer Künstlers Hans Leu d. J. erkannt. Eine für diesen Künstler bislang lediglich vermutete Lehrzeit bei Baldung scheint durch seine Arbeiten für den Eulenspiegel nunmehr gesichert. Leu war offenbar bereits 1510/11 in Baldungs Straßburger Werkstatt tätig. Es konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass in allen vier Frühdrucken dieselben Holzstöcke verwendet wurden. Darüber hinaus konnte aufgrund der eindeutig zu verfolgenden zunehmenden Fehlerhaftigkeit und Abnutzung der Holzstöcke nachgewiesen werden, dass die Frühdatierung des Exemplares S 1510/11, welches sich im Privatbesitz von Professor Hucker in Vechta befindet, zu Recht erfolgte. Die Arbeit mit diesem Exemplar erlaubte die Beschreibung zweier bislang unveröffentlichter Holzschnitte aus dem alten Bestand, die in den nachfolgenden Auflagen des Eulenspiegelbuches nicht mehr abgedruckt wurden. Es existiert keine Gleichberechtigung von Text und Bild. Nach Ansicht der Autorin steuern die Illustrationen keine über den Text hinausweisenden Informationen bei. ; Abstract ; Topic of the work is the illustrated Strasbourg Eulenspiegel book S 1515. The inhomogenous illustrations of the work suggest the participation of several engravers. Altogether there can be distinguished five different styles or artists. Since some of the qualitatively inferior woodcuts clearly show parallels to the group of woodcuts manufactured by Hans Baldung Grien, it is likely that these woodcuts have been produced later than those of Baldung, either imitateing Baldung´s originals or even with his support in his Strasbourg workshop. The woodcuts of group B were classified as slightly younger than all others due to stylistic details and the use of a landscape format better adapted to the width of the the book´s print space. Due to their stylistic quality, which shows a direct connection to Baldung, these works could only have been manufactured in knowledge Baldung´s works, probably in direct correlation with his Strasbourg workshop. Accordingly a majority of the illustrations of the Eulenspiegel book is to be assumed in direct correlation to the Strasbourg workshop of Hans Baldung Grien. I.e., the illustrations were generated in a close temporal and geographical connection though several artists were involved. On style-critical ways the woodcuts of group B were recognized as work of the swiss artist Hans Leu jun. The up to now merely assumed apprenticeship of this artist with Baldung now seems assured by his work for the Eulenspiegel book. Obviously Leu was already working in Baldung´s Strasbourg workshop in 1510/11. It could be provided evidence that for all four early prints of the Eulenspiegel book the same plates were used. On the basis of the increasing defectiveness and wear of the wood plates it could moreover be proven clearly that the dating of the copy S 1510/11 (which is in the private property of professor Hucker in Vechta) as the eldest copy took place accurately. The work with Prof. Hucker´s copy allowed the description of two up to now unpublished woodcuts of the old stock, which were not any longer printed in following editions of the Eulenspiegel book. In opinion of the authoress text and illustrations are not equivalent, the illustrations do not contribute informations beyond the text.

    Abstract ; Die Filmkunst Andrej Tarkowskijs wird am ehesten durch sein Bildmotiv gekennzeichnet. Nach Tarkowskij manifestiert sich im filmischen Bild die "Beobachtung von Lebensfakten, die in der Zeit angesiedelt sind, die entsprechend den Formen des Lebens selbst und dessen Zeitgesetzen organisiert werden." Die Filmkunst ist demnach eine Bildhauerei aus Zeit. In der vorliegenden Abhandlung werden die wahrnehmungstheoretischen und historischen Grundlagen der verschiedenen Bildmotive bei Tarkowskij, dargestellt in den Filmen Ivans Kindheit, Andrej Rubljow, Solaris, Spiegel, Stalker, Nostalgia und Opfer, untersucht. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Versuch, zu veranschaulichen, wie das filmische Bild - als Gegenwarts- und Geschichtsbilder sowie als Erinnerungs- und Traumbilder - sich zu eigener zeitlicher und räumlicher Existenz entfaltet, und folglich der Wirklichkeit und seiner erzählerischen Kontinuität gegenüber Grenzen zieht. Die Untersuchung zielt auch darauf ab, die filmtechnische Eigenart der Bildmotive bei Tarkowskij, wie Zeitlupe, Überwindung der Trägheit sowie das Schweben bzw. die Überwindung der Gravitation, zu erörtern, und ihre epistemologischen und ästhetischen Implikationen zu deuten. ; Abstract ; Andrey Tarkovsky’s aesthetics is characterised predominantly through his image motifs. For Tarkovsky the film image is “basically observation of life’s facts within time, organised according to the pattern of life itself, and observing its time laws.” The art of film is therefore a “sculpting in time.” This treatise examines the epistemological and historical foundations of various image motifs in Tarkovsky’s films: Ivan’s Childhood, Andrei Rublev, Solaris, Mirror, Stalker, Nostalgia and Sacrifice. It attempts to illustrate how the cinematic image - as represented in the presence, history, remembrance and dreams - unfolds into its own temporal and spatial existence and draws its bounds against reality and its narrative continuity. This study also aims at interpreting the technical nature Tarkovsky’s image motifs, such as slow motion, overcoming inertia and gravity (motif of floating), and their epistemological and aesthetic implications.

Roth wird seine Stimme Edgar Allan Poe leihen, dem Dichter, der ihm seit seiner Schülerzeit literarische Heimat bedeutet. Gelesen werden ausgewählte Geschichten Edgar Allan Poes im englischen Original und in der Übersetzung Arno Schmidts und Hans Wollschlaegers sowie ein Text von Patrick Roth selbst, der einsichtig werden lässt, wie Roth Poe seinem eigenen Schreiben anverwandelt hat.     Bringing the World Home sheds new light on China's vibrant cultural life between 1895 and 1919-a crucial period that marks a watershed between the conservative old regime and the ostensibly iconoclastic New Culture of the 1920s. Although generally overlooked in the effort to understand modern Chinese history, the era has much to teach us about cultural accommodation and is characterized by its own unique intellectual life. This original and probing work traces the most significant strands of the new post-1895 discourse, concentrating on the anxieties inherent in a complicated process of cultural transformation. It focuses principally on how the need to accommodate the West was reflected in such landmark novels of the period as Wu Jianren's Strange Events Eyewitnessed in the Past Twenty Years and Zhu Shouju's Tides of the Huangpu, which began serial publication in Shanghai in 1916
