    We review the economics of superstars, originally developed for stars in traditional media, and discuss whether they are applicable for the (allegedly) novel phenomenon of stars in social media (influencer, micro-celebrities). Moreover, we analyse potentially new factors for creating social media superstardom that may be special to the nature of social media. Our overall result is that the economics of superstars, like the role of talent, market concentration effects, MacDonald-style and Adler-style effects, remain applicable and relevant for social media stars. In line with this assessment, we find that several (allegedly) new star factors in social media, like user-generated content, prosumption, disappearance of gatekeepers and authenticity, turn out to be only partly applicable or just slightly different to traditional concepts. However, algorithm management and upload strategies represent novel success factors relevant for social media superstardom that are not captured by traditional superstar theories.

    The "Study on current energy sector investment instruments and schemes" in the Services and Prosumers sector in the EU has been carried out as part of the Investors Dialogue on Energy - an initiative launched by the European Commission, DG ENER in 2022. The ID Energy is a multi-stakeholder platform bringing together experts from energy and finance sectors in all EU countries to assess and upgrade financing schemes, with the aim of mobilising financing in the context of the European Green Deal and REPowerEU. This study focuses on services and prosumers sector and is the fifth and last of a series of studies which cover energy production, transmission and distribution, energy storage, and heating and cooling. The study has been prepared on the basis of research carried out in 2022 and beginning of 2023 and incorporates data collected via desk research and interviews, as well as feedback from the stakeholders participating in the discussion of Working Group 5 of the Investors Dialogue for Energy, which focuses on services and prosumers.

    Within the regulation of net purchasing, investment incentives for residential PV depend on the remuneration for grid feed-in and the consumption costs that households can save by self-consumption. Network tariffs constitute a substantial part of these consumption costs. We use postcode-level data for Germany between 2009 and 2017 and exploit the regional heterogeneity of network tariffs to investigate whether they encourage to invest in PV installations and evaluate how the nonlinear tariff structure impacts residential PV adoption. Our results show that network tariffs do impact PV adoption. The effect has increased in recent years when self-consumption has become financially more attractive, and the results confirm the expectation that PV investments are driven by the volumetric tariff. Policy reforms that alter the share between the price components are, thus, likely to affect residential PV adoption. Further, with self-consumption becoming a key incentive, price signals can effectively support the coordination of electricity demand and supply in Germany.
