Ensuring career enhancement and good working conditions for schoolteachers are vital to guarantee learning opportunities for all, as recons the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Brazilian's National Education Plan (PNE). The present study analyses indicators related to schoolteachers, including PNE and SDG 4 indicators, as well as those on the insertion in the labor market and the number of hours and schools taught in for the years of 2015 and 2019. The results highlight regional inequalities, and among the private and public schools. Despite the advances registered, efforts need to be redoubled to meet the goals agreed upon.

This paper aims to illustrate the situation of the basic education in Brazil through an international comparison of the Sustainable Development Goals' (SDGs) indicators. The paper presents 54 SDG 4 indicators on Basic Education for Brazil and thirteen other countries, namely, Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sweden ant the USA. The countries were selected according to criterions of geographical proximity to Brazil, territorial and population size and social policy models. All indicators and their values were calculated based on UNESCO's databases and the values are for 2015 or the closest year to 2015 with available data. The criterions to select the indicators were those with values for Brazil and focusing on the goals concerning the Basic Education level (pre-primary, primary and secondary schooling levels).

This paper investigates the intersectional inequalities in the Brazilian primary and lower secondary school levels in 2017, comparing them with those observed in 1997. To do so, it analyses the indicators of goal 4.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely, the completion rates of primary and lower secondary levels and the percentage of students who reached the level of performance considered satisfactory in the Reading and Mathematics tests of the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb), from 1997 and 2017. The intersectionality of the categories of sex, race, and family per capita income and sex, Brazilian regions and rurality proved to be signifi cant to explain the inequalities in the completion rates of primary school in 1997 and of the lower secondary level in 1997 and in 2017, demonstrating the importance of ceasing educational inequalities in their dynamics. The imbrications of the categories of sex, race and large Brazilian regions and sex, large Brazilian regions and rurality were signifi cant in understanding the inequalities in student performance at the end of both primary and lower secondary school cycles in 1997 and 2017. By shedding light on intersectional inequalities in primary and lower secondary education, the results of this research contribute to the monitoring of goal 4.5 of the SDG which aims to overcome educational inequalities.

In 2012, as a result of the Rio+20 Conference of the United Nations (UN), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created, including access to drinking water and basic sanitation (challenge 6 of the SDGs). In Brazil, the semiarid region is the region where achieving the goals of SDG 6 is most challenging. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, a new proposal to deal with the issue of water scarcity and droughts, regular event in that region, began to take shape under the aegis of the idea of coexistence with the semiarid region. Some innovative approaches emerge from this perspective, including the use of cisterns for the storage of rainwater by the rural population. The purpose of this article is to analyze this initiative since its inception (before being incorporated into the list of public policies of the federal government) until the present day, in light of its impacts on the benefited region and its contribution to SDG 6. Evidence presented in this article indicates that the Cisterns Program's contribution to achieving the goals of SDG 6 is significant. Due to the evidence recorded in this, and in many other articles, of the positive impacts of cisterns on beneficiaries, the continuation of the Cisterns Program is justified, with the purpose of one day to mitigating the most harmful effects of droughts on the population of the Brazilian semiarid region, thirst and hunger.

The United Nations Organization, after adopting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and establishing its seventeen goals, took a step further in its commitment to ocean conservation, declaring the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Ocean Decade), from 2021 to 2030. The actions undertaken in this area aim to guarantee that ocean science can support the States in order to achieve all the content of the 2030 Agenda, especially in what is related to the conservation of the ocean. Brazil, by assuming the commitments listed in the document launched during the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, however, has faced a series of challenges related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, SDG 14 "Life below water - conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources". Based on this premise, this article aims to demonstrate the urgent need to implement the SDGs, in particular SDG 14, to achieve the results of the Ocean Decade. To this end, at first, the association between the 2030 Agenda and the Ocean Decade is analyzed, noting the importance of the ocean for promoting sustainable development. The second section seeks to highlight the essentiality of SDG 14 for life below water, approaching the Ocean Decade as fundamental for actions in favor of conservation and sustainable use of the ocean in the present and future. And, complementing the present analysis, there is a discussion about the Brazilian strategies to reach the goals of SDG 14, considering in particular the role of the blue economy.
