The Non-Domestic Smart Energy Management Innovation Competition (NDSEMIC) was an £8.8 million competition led by the Smart Metering Implementation Programme within the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. The main competition ran from 2018 to 2020 and aimed to maximise the potential for energy saving in 3 priority sectors: hospitality, retail, school. To do this, it developed and piloted 7 energy management products and services that use smart meter data to help smaller organisations to manage their energy consumption better. The research and evaluation programme ran in parallel to Phases 1-3 of the competition to draw out evidence about what is effective for delivering energy savings and to explore with stakeholders how to drive future market development.

At the 2020 Annual Meeting in Davos, 120 of the world's largest companies supported efforts to develop a core set of common metrics and disclosures on non-financial factors for their investors and other stakeholders. This report presents the conclusions of our six-month open consultation process to define common metrics for sustainable value creation. The core and expanded set of "Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics" and disclosures can be used by companies to align their mainstream reporting on performance against environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators and track their contributions towards the SDGs on a consistent basis. The metrics are deliberately based on existing standards, with the near-term objectives of accelerating convergence among the leading private standard-setters and bringing greater comparability and consistency to the reporting of ESG disclosures. This project, developed within the International Business Council, a community of over 120 global CEOs, seeks to improve the ways that companies measure and demonstrate their contributions towards creating more prosperous, fulfilled societies and a more sustainable relationship with our planet. This report is a follow-up to the draft for consultation, Towards Common Metrics and Consistent Reporting of Sustainable Value Creation, launched in January 2020 at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum.

An enabling environment for the social and solidarity economy (SSE) largely depends on policy co-construction with stakeholders, and their commitment to implement policy across all levels of government, especially at the local level. The city of Durban is emerging as an exemplar for creating an enabling environment for the SSE to flourish through the co-construction process of policy making with relevant stakeholders and the implementation of these policies in a consultation process. Through the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality (eTMM)1 in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), the city experienced success in establishing an enabling SSE environment by means of its Cooperative Development Plan (CDP). Together with partners and stakeholders2, the CDP delivered a model that serves as a tried and tested example to be replicated all over South Africa. Following various socio-economic challenges, the country experienced a proliferation of SSE entities, and active3 registered SSE entities now represent between 16% and 18% of the total of all active registered enterprise entities of all sectors of South Africa. Within the national SSE landscape, the KZN province is a stronghold, accommodating 32% of all registered cooperatives and an estimated 20% of non-profit organizations (NPO) including social enterprises in South Africa.

It is a challenge and often still a methodological gap in participation processes how different knowledge can be brought together and how the status of the discussion can be processed and shared. In this paper, we show how the method of argumentation mapping can be used to identify trade offs and solution strategies in a transdisciplinary research project. As part of the research project "Decentralized energy transition between social justice, system costs and environmental protection - trade offs and solution strategies" (short title DEZ-ZIELKONFLIKTE), the argument mapping method was used to examine the debate on the extent to which a decentralized energy transition is desirable and will serve as a case study in this paper. The case study shows how argumentation maps provide a comprehensive and organized overview of the debate and thus make the focal points visible so that solution strategies and well-informed decisions can be developed.

Changing human behaviour can be crucial for the success of development policies. Understanding the drivers of behaviour and designing policies that are supported by target groups is thus key to development cooperation effectiveness. Moreover, considering the intended and potential unintended effects of policies on behaviour is essential at all government levels. To guide policymakers in creating behaviour-centred measures, policies, or programmes, IDOS has developed a six-step procedure. This procedure is the result of more than 10 years of experience with behavioural field research in countries of the Global South. Below, we illustrate the procedure with practice cases from our work. Define the overarching aim of the policy: The first step is to achieve clarity and agreement on the policy's overarching aim among all stakeholders. This ensures a unified understanding and helps to identify necessary elements for accomplishing the aim, which often include infrastructure, regulation, skills, technology, and human behaviour. Understand people and their status quo: Who do we need to have on board, what do they currently do, and why? Step two involves identifying and understanding the behaviours of specific groups crucial for achieving the policy's aim. This requires prioritising key behavioural issues and conducting detailed target group analysis. Understand the target behaviour: What do we need them to do so we can reach our overarching aim, and why would they do it? Understanding the target behaviour involves identifying the chain of necessary behavioural steps. This requires "putting oneself in the shoes" of the target group to comprehend the behavioural process and identify barriers and drivers. Co-develop targeted behavioural policies with local partners to enable and incentivise the shift from current to target behaviours. Once current and target behaviours are understood, policymakers must co-develop behavioural policies that facilitate the shift. Following the COM-B model, such policies should address capability, opportunity, and motivation. Test and improve behavioural policies: Before rollout, the different elements of the behavioural policy should be tested to identify the most effective elements and to improve the policy accordingly. Appropriate methods include randomised controlled trials, surveys, and before-and-after comparisons. Scale the tested and proven policies: Once intervention packages are tested and optimised, they are ready to be rolled out. Collaboration with local partners is crucial for all the above steps, and the results should be shared to allow for learning and knowledge transfer.

Virtualization is one of the big buzzwords in communications. When formats are moved from real-world settings to online environments a variety of challenges emerge - especially when it comes to confidential interactions and personal relationships with key stakeholders. A research team at Leipzig University investigated the extent to which in-person formats can be virtualized based on the following questions: What are advantages and disadvantages of virtual stakeholder dialogues? Which factors need to be considered if virtual stakeholder dialogues are to be successful?

Port container trucking is currently one of the most challenging aspects of the love-hate relationship between ports and cities. This paper highlights important examples of emerging good practices at and around the marine port terminal. Hinterland connectivity and landside productivity are increasingly important for port performance. Yet conflicts over congestion, pollution and other negative impacts of container traffic are an increasing source of tensions. Managing these tensions requires a clear understanding of the issues and identification of the stakeholders involved in the transport system of the immediate port hinterland.
