Die deutsche Werftindustrie, so wie wir sie in den letzten fünf Jahren während des weltweiten Schiffbaubooms erlebt haben, wird es in Zukunft in der bisherigen Struktur nicht mehr geben. Nachhaltige strategische Konzepte auf der Arbeitgeberseite zur Bewältigung der Krise sind nicht erkennbar. Die aktuellen Entwicklungen lassen befürchten, dass industrielle Kapazitäten, Arbeitsplätze und Know-how im deutschen Schiffbau unwiderruflich verloren gehen könnten. Fehlende Neubauaufträge, Auftragsstornierungen und von den Auftraggebern nicht abgenommene Schiffsneubauten haben dazu geführt, dass innerhalb des Berichtszeitraums sechs Werften Insolvenz anmelden mussten. Bereits realisierte und beabsichtigte Verkäufe einzelner Werften (Nobiskrug, Nordseewerke Emden, Blohm&Voss Hamburg und evtl. HDW Gaarden), werden die Struktur der deutschen Werftindustrie deutlich verschieben. Der deutsche Schiffbau hat im Verlauf der letzten zwölf Monate einen dramatischen Beschäftigungseinbruch erlitten. Noch nie arbeiteten weniger Menschen auf deutschen Werften als in diesem Jahr. In den befragten 40 Unternehmen waren am 1.9.2009 nur noch 17.446 Menschen direkt beschäftigt - 3.084 Menschen bzw. 15 Prozent weniger als ein Jahr zuvor. For the 18th time, the German Union IG Metall-Coastal Region and the Institute Labour and Economy/University of Bremen are organizing the annually carried out panel study on Shipbuilding Industry in Germany. In September 2009 the works councils of all 37 German shipyards plus three component companies have been asked by a standardized questionnaire for employment, order book, working conditions and perspectives. This panel could be understood as a census. The structure of the German Shipbuilding Industry, as we know it from the last 5 years boom (2003-2008), is dramatically changing due to the global financial and economic crisis. Sus-tainable strategies are not existent till now. The current developments could lead to the ever lasting loss of industrial capacities, jobs and Know How in the German Shipbuilding Industry. The lack of new orders, cancellations of orders and the non-acceptance of already finished new ships by the customers had led to the bankruptcy of in total 6 yards during the last 12 months. Furthermore already decided or planned sales of single yards (Nobiskrug, Nordseewerke Emden, Blohm&Voss Hamburg and HDW Gaarden Kiel) contribute to these structural changes. In the last 12 months there were dramatic decreases of direct employment in the German Shipbuilding Industry: At 1 September 2009 the 40 companies directly employed 17,446 - a loss of 3,084 jobs (=15 percent) compared to the figure from one year before. Never in the history of German Shipbuilding Industry was the number of jobs so low.
