    Erstmalig wird eine Einführung in die Theorien und Methoden der romanistischen Sprachwissenschaft vorgelegt. Ausgehend von der These, die Entwicklung innerhalb einer spezifischen wissenschaftlichen Disziplin lasse sich anhand ihrer konstitutiven Metaphorik nachverfolgen (T. Winograd), legt der Band die Sprachkonzeption des 19. Jahrhunderts zugrunde, wonach sie als lebende Organismen zu verstehen seien (Genealogische Sprachtheorie). Die daraus sich ergebenden Konzeptualisierungen von Sprache als Lebewesen, Raum, Organismus, Architektur, Handlung sowie Abbildung erfassen in jeder Einheit mit organischen Unterkapiteln die zugehörigen Theorien, Fragestellungen, Thesen und Methoden. Vorangestellt ist eine grundlegende Lehreinheit zu Begriffen wie Wissenschaft, Korpus, Methode etc. Die 7 Kapitel lassen sich bequem auf ein Semester mit 14 Unterrichtseinheiten verteilen. Theorien, Modelle etc. werden in ihrem originalsprachlichen Wortlaut angeführt, um Verfälschungen vorzubeugen und Sicherheit im Umgang mit internationaler Terminologie zu vermitteln. Das Lehrbuch richtet sich explizit an Studierende der Romanistik sowie der großen romanischen Einzelphilologien (Frz., It., Span.).
