    In den Beiträgen namhafter Editoren wird zum einen nach dem Verhältnis von Philologie und Philosophie gefragt: nach der Möglichkeit ihrer inneren Einheit, einer philologischen Erkenntnis und Wahrheit, kurz nach einer Philosophie der Philologie. Neben den editionstheoretischen, methodologischen und hermeneutischen Untersuchungen werden neuere Tendenzen der Editionstheorie und -praxis wie die Édition génétique und die New Philology diskutiert. Schließlich wird über die zunehmend wichtiger werdenden editionspraktischen und -pragmatischen Fragen wie Editionsförderung, elektronische Edition und damit zusammenhängende urheberrechtliche Fragen informiert. These contributions by prominent editors inquire centrally into the relation between philology and philosophy, more specifically the possibility of an inner bond uniting them, of a philological form of knowledge and truth, in short of a philosophy of philology. Alongside studies on the theoretical, methodological and hermeneutic aspects of editing, attention is also given to recent tendencies in editing theory and practice such as édition génétique and New Philology. Finally readers are informed about increasingly important practical and pragmatic aspects of editing, including funding, electronic editing and the copyright issues posed by the latter.

Christian Kohlroß präsentiert im ersten Teil seiner Studie eine kurze Metageschichte der Literaturtheorie(n), also der theoretischen Verfahren, die bislang zur Begründung des literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Wissens bereitgestellt wurden. Im zweiten Teil zeigt der Autor, welche Konsequenzen sich aus dieser Geschichte für ein anderes Selbstverständnis der Literaturtheorie ergeben – vor allem dann, wenn man, was Kunst, Bedeuten und Verstehen ausmacht, mit pragmatistischen Mitteln zu begreifen sucht. What epistemological claim do literary and cultural studies raise? In the first part of his study, Christian Kohlross presents a brief metahistory of literary theory (or theories), i.e. of the theoretical processes hitherto used as the basis for knowledge in literary and cultural studies. In the second part, he then shows the consequences of this history for a different self-image of literary theory – particularly if one tries to grasp the essence of art, meaning and understanding using pragmatic means. Jakobson has had a tremenduous influence on the development of linguistic theory. He was a founder of and prime mover in the Prague Linguistic Circle. On the basis of the new structuralist concepts, he set forth bold theories of general linguistics and illustrated them with brilliant demonstrations based on Slavic and other languages. Taking a leading role in the elucidation of the structural linguistic field of phonology, Jakobson used these insights to develop new trends in historical phonology. Altogether, his linguistics appears to incorporate the technical design of modern theoretical concepts, but at the same time transcends purely formal modeling through its interdisciplinary focus upon historical and poetic matters. Jakobson was enormously successful in presenting innovative theoretical insights and relating them to possible practical applications. Specifically, his work on the general processes of language acquisition and loss, on child language and aphasia, opened up entirely new methods for linguists and doctors alike. What epistemological claim do literary and cultural studies raise? In the first part of his study, Christian Kohlross presents a brief metahistory of literary theory (or theories), i.e. of the theoretical processes hitherto used as the basis for knowledge in literary and cultural studies. In the second part, he then shows the consequences of this history for a different self-image of literary theory – particularly if one tries to grasp the essence of art, meaning and understanding using pragmatic means. Neben den editionstheoretischen, methodologischen und hermeneutischen Untersuchungen werden neuere Tendenzen der Editionstheorie und -praxis wie die Édition génétique und die New Philology diskutiert. Schließlich wird über die zunehmend wichtiger werdenden editionspraktischen und -pragmatischen Fragen wie Editionsförderung, elektronische Edition und damit zusammenhängende urheberrechtliche Fragen informiert. These contributions by prominent editors inquire centrally into the relation between philology and philosophy, more specifically the possibility of an inner bond uniting them, of a philological form of knowledge and truth, in short of a philosophy of philology. Alongside studies on the theoretical, methodological and hermeneutic aspects of editing, attention is also given to recent tendencies in editing theory and practice such as édition génétique and New Philology. Finally readers are informed about increasingly important practical and pragmatic aspects of editing, including funding, electronic editing and the copyright issues posed by the latter.
