    Francisco Nieva (1924, Valdepeñas, Espagne) est un artiste protéiforme. Peintre de formation, on le connaît essentiellement pour son théâtre et ses romans. L’objet de ce travail est de redonner pleine existence au peintre-dramaturge en approchant les divers versants de sa création sous l’angle de l’image projetée et du spectacle total. Mon corpus met en relation quelques tableaux originels, les cahiers de dessins de l’artiste, sept pièces de théâtre et un roman. Après avoir montré comment le parcours artistique de Francisco Nieva livre la trace d’une projection continuelle de l’image, de médium en médium, je m’intéresse à la visibilité du théâtre niévien sur la scène espagnole, parce qu’elle est gage d’une visibilité de l’image. Au nombre des auteurs frappés de non représentabilité, Francisco Nieva rejoint alors Ramón María del Valle-Inclán ou Federico García Lorca. Enfin, j’étudie le processus d’avènement de l’image depuis le laboratoire graphique, à la lumière des analyses d’Áron Kibédi Varga, de W. J. T. Mitchell et de Hans Belting. Je montre notamment que la création de Francisco Nieva construit le passage de l’« image-texte » à l’« imagetexte » et fait advenir une scène primitive revisitée, transgressive car inscrite dans ce que Michel Foucault nomme le « dispositif de sexualité ». L’étude des cahiers de dessins personnels de l’artiste me permet de repérer sur la scène graphique l’hybridité définitoire de son théâtre, synthèse entre la tradition et les avant-gardes. L’avènement théâtral, sous le signe de l’esprit d’enfance et du petit théâtre en carton, marque quant à lui le passage de la vision graphique aux tableaux très cadrés de la représentation scénique Francisco Nieva (1924, Valdepeñas, Spain) is a protean performer. Trained as a painter, he is mainly known for his plays and novels. The aim of this work is to bring the painter-playwright back into full light through looking at the different sides of his creation from the angle of the projected image and the complete show. My corpus looks at some of his original paintings, the artist’s sketch books, seven plays and a novel. After showing how Francisco Nieva’s artistic career follows a continuous trail of image projection, from medium to medium, I will look at the visibility of nievien theatre on the Spanish stage, which shows image visibility. Along with Ramón María del Valle-Inclán or Federico García Lorca, Francisco Nieva’s works were banned from being performed. Finally, I will study the accession process of the image from the graphic laboratory, to the light of Áron Kibédi Varga’s, W. J. T. Mitchell’s and Hans Belting’s analysis. I will show that Francisco Nieva’s works progress from « image-text » to « imagetext » and create a revisited primitive stage, which is transgressive as it is what Michel Foucault calls « dispositif de sexualité ». My study of the artist’s personal sketch books enables us to see the defining hybridity of his theatre on the graphic stage, a synthesis of tradition and avant-garde. Theatrical advent, under the sign of childlike spirit and cardboard theatre, shows the change from the graphic vision to very structured scenes of theatrical representation

    Francisco Nieva (1924, Valdepeñas, Espagne) est un artiste protéiforme. Peintre de formation, on le connaît essentiellement pour son théâtre et ses romans. L’objet de ce travail est de redonner pleine existence au peintre-dramaturge en approchant les divers versants de sa création sous l’angle de l’image projetée et du spectacle total. Mon corpus met en relation quelques tableaux originels, les cahiers de dessins de l’artiste, sept pièces de théâtre et un roman. Après avoir montré comment le parcours artistique de Francisco Nieva livre la trace d’une projection continuelle de l’image, de médium en médium, je m’intéresse à la visibilité du théâtre niévien sur la scène espagnole, parce qu’elle est gage d’une visibilité de l’image. Au nombre des auteurs frappés de non représentabilité, Francisco Nieva rejoint alors Ramón María del Valle-Inclán ou Federico García Lorca. Enfin, j’étudie le processus d’avènement de l’image depuis le laboratoire graphique, à la lumière des analyses d’Áron Kibédi Varga, de W. J. T. Mitchell et de Hans Belting. Je montre notamment que la création de Francisco Nieva construit le passage de l’« image-texte » à l’« imagetexte » et fait advenir une scène primitive revisitée, transgressive car inscrite dans ce que Michel Foucault nomme le « dispositif de sexualité ». L’étude des cahiers de dessins personnels de l’artiste me permet de repérer sur la scène graphique l’hybridité définitoire de son théâtre, synthèse entre la tradition et les avant-gardes. L’avènement théâtral, sous le signe de l’esprit d’enfance et du petit théâtre en carton, marque quant à lui le passage de la vision graphique aux tableaux très cadrés de la représentation scénique Francisco Nieva (1924, Valdepeñas, Spain) is a protean performer. Trained as a painter, he is mainly known for his plays and novels. The aim of this work is to bring the painter-playwright back into full light through looking at the different sides of his creation from the angle of the projected image and the complete show. My corpus looks at some of his original paintings, the artist’s sketch books, seven plays and a novel. After showing how Francisco Nieva’s artistic career follows a continuous trail of image projection, from medium to medium, I will look at the visibility of nievien theatre on the Spanish stage, which shows image visibility. Along with Ramón María del Valle-Inclán or Federico García Lorca, Francisco Nieva’s works were banned from being performed. Finally, I will study the accession process of the image from the graphic laboratory, to the light of Áron Kibédi Varga’s, W. J. T. Mitchell’s and Hans Belting’s analysis. I will show that Francisco Nieva’s works progress from « image-text » to « imagetext » and create a revisited primitive stage, which is transgressive as it is what Michel Foucault calls « dispositif de sexualité ». My study of the artist’s personal sketch books enables us to see the defining hybridity of his theatre on the graphic stage, a synthesis of tradition and avant-garde. Theatrical advent, under the sign of childlike spirit and cardboard theatre, shows the change from the graphic vision to very structured scenes of theatrical representation
