    Die Lektüre des mittelalterlichen 'Nibelungenlieds' wurde seit seiner Wiederentdeckung im 18. Jahrhundert mit Vorstellungen von 'deutscher Kultur' und vom 'deutschen Volk' überblendet. Einen Höhepunkt dieser nationalistisch ausgerichteten Lektüre bildet die Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, in der Rückgriffe auf die Nibelungen als Identifikationsmuster Hochkonjunktur hatten. Im Anschluss an Jacob Grimms Begriffsprägung des 'Nibelungischen' gehen die Beiträge des Bandes der umfassenden 'Nibelungisierung' der Gesellschaft in populären und wissenschaftlichen Diskursen zur Zeit des Nationalsozialismus nach. Dabei wird das 'Nibelungische' als Zeichenvorrat begriffen, der in politisch instabilen Zeiten zur Aktivierung bereitsteht. Neuere Wiedererzählungen zeigen, wie mit dem Nibelungenstoff bis heute umgegangen wird und in welcher Weise 'Nibelungisches' nach wie vor wirksam ist

    The Credibility Revolution advances quantitative research designs intended to identify causal effects from observed data. The ensuing emphasis on internal validity however has enabled the neglect of construct and external validity. This article develops a framework we call causal specification. The framework formally demonstrates the joint necessity of assumptions regarding internal, construct and external validity for causal generalization. Indeed, the lack of any of the three types of validity undermines the Credibility Revolution's own goal to understand causality deductively. Without assumptions regarding construct validity, one cannot accurately label the cause or outcome. Without assumptions regarding external validity, one cannot label the conditions enabling the cause to have an effect. These assumptions ultimately are founded on qualitative and theoretical understandings of a causal process. As a result, causal specification clarifies the central role of qualitative research in underwriting deductive understandings of causality in quantitative research.

    We develop a method that identifies the effects of nationwide policy, i.e., policy implemented across all regions at the same time. The core idea is to track outcome paths in terms of stages rather than time, where a stage of a regional outcome at time t is its location on the support of a reference path. The method proceeds in two steps. First, a normalization maps the time paths of regional outcomes onto the reference path-using only pre-policy data. This uncovers cross-regional heterogeneity of the stage at which policy is implemented. Second, this stage variation identifies policy effects inside a window of stages where a stage-leading region provides the no-policy counterfactual path for non-leading regions that are subject to policy inside that window. We assess our method's performance with Monte-Carlo experiments, illustrate it with empirical applications, and show that it captures heterogeneous policy effects across stages.

    We propose a blended approach which combines identification via heteroskedasticity with the widely used methods of sign restrictions, narrative restrictions, and external instruments.Since heteroskedasticity in the reduced form can be exploited to point identify a set of orthogonal shocks, its use results in a sharp reduction of the potentially large identified sets stemming from the typical approaches. Conversely, the identifying information in the form of sign and narrative restrictions or external instruments can prove necessary when the conditions for point identification through heteroskedasticity are not met and offers a natural solution to the labeling problem inherent in purely statistical identification strategies. As a result, we argue that blending these methods together resolves their respective key issues and leverages their advantages, which allows to sharpen identification. We illustrate the blending approach in an artificial data experiment first, and then apply it to several examples taken from recent and influential literature. Specifically, we consider labour market shocks, oil market shocks, monetary and fiscal policy shocks, and find that their effects can be rather different from what previously obtained with simpler identification strategies

Dazu werden deren Grundbegriffe hinterfragt, die Historizität von gegenwärtigen Differenzlinien im Bildungskontext thematisiert sowie praxisorientierte Impulse zur Dekolonisierung von Erziehungswissenschaft gegeben. Die Perspektiven sind vielstimmig künstlerisch, wissenschaftlich und in der Bildungspraxis verortet. Die Autor*innen und Künstler*innen können biografisch auf Erfahrungen mit Rassismus, Antisemitismus, Klassismus, Ableismus, Sexismus und/oder die gewaltvollen Auswirkungen von Heteronormativität zurückgreifen, was ihren Blick für gesellschaftliche Differenzverhältnisse auf besondere Weise schärft.     Die Lektüre des mittelalterlichen Meisterwerks »Die Nibelungen« ist seit seiner Wiederentdeckung im 18. Jahrhundert von nationalistischem Interesse überblendet. Den vorläufigen Endpunkt dieser Fehllektüre bildet die Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, in der auf das Nibelungenlied als Identifikationsmuster zurückgegriffen wurde. Ausgehend von Jacob Grimms Begriffsprägung des »Nibelungischen« gehen die Beiträger*innen der »Nibelungisierung« der totalitär disponierten deutschen Gesellschaft im Nationalsozialismus in populären und wissenschaftlichen Diskursen nach. Dabei wird das »Nibelungische« als Zeichenvorrat begriffen, der in politisch instabilen Zeiten zur Aktivierung bereitsteht
