    Are artists and cultural institutions cultural translators? Which part do concepts such as that of trans-culturality play? The contributions collected in this volume focus on the subject of (trans-)cultural translation and build a bridge between art and the cultural sector, the so-called "cultural turn" being just as relevant as the findings of the latest studies concerning the areas of activity in the cultural sector and management. Besides trans-cultural phenomena in fine arts, music, literature and theater, the authors explore current issues of cultural education at festivals, in museums, theaters, libraries, concert and opera halls. In conclusion, the focus is on processes of cultural exchange and (inter)national cultural managements that also require their players to develop modified thought patterns. Sind Künstler und Kultureinrichtungen kulturelle Übersetzer? Welche Rolle spielen Konzepte wie jenes der Transkulturalität? Die Beiträge des Bandes stellen das Thema der (trans-)kulturellen Übersetzung in den Mittelpunkt und schlagen eine Brücke zwischen Kunst und Kulturbetrieb. Dafür ist der sogenannte Cultural Turn ebenso relevant wie neueste Erkenntnisse aus Kulturbetrieb und -management. Neben transkulturellen Phänomenen in bildender Kunst, Musik, Literatur und Theater widmen sich die Beiträge der Kulturvermittlung auf Festivals, in Museen, Theatern, Bibliotheken, Konzert- und Opernsälen. Ebenso werden Prozesse des (inter-)nationalen Kulturmanagements fokussiert, die von ihren Akteuren gleichfalls modifizierte Denkstrukturen verlangen.

    How is photography connected to global practices? This is a first edited collection to trace the relationship between history, photography and memory in a global perspective on three interrelated levels: firstly, in the artistic and cultural production of pictures, secondly, in the decoding of colonial and contemporary photography, and thirdly, in collecting photographs in picture archives dealing with colonial, anthropological and family photography. The contributions sketch the contested field of global photography and trace the manifold intertwinements between historical and contemporary photographs.

    Aufgewachsen zwischen Schweizer Überfremdungsangst und diasporischer Nostalgie: »Inder_innen der zweiten Generation« verfügten als Kinder kaum über Narrative für ihre Erfahrung der Mehrfachzugehörigkeit. Rohit Jain zeichnet nach, wie diese »unmöglichen« Subjekte inmitten von assimilatorischem Rassismus und warenförmiger Anerkennung in der Schweiz sowie in den diasporischen Räumen eines liberalisierten Indiens neue Lebensentwürfe erfinden.     Law and the economy in space and time: Taking South Asian migration biographies as examples, Raphael Schwegmann traces the globalizing mobilization of power from a post-colonial perspective. Migrations- und Flüchtlingsdebatten machen den Bedarf an neuen Arbeiten zur Wirkweise ökonomischer und rechtlicher Macht in Raum und Zeit deutlich, sofern aktuelle weltpolitische Konstellationen auch vor der Schablone vergangener Geographien des Kapitalismus begriffen werden.Am Beispiel südasiatischer Auswanderergeschichten aus dem 20. Jahrhundert skizziert Raphael Schwegmann die kolonialen und postkolonialen Verflechtungen materiell-technischer und diskursiver Globalisierungen zwischen Europa und Asien. Seine historisch-geographische Dispositivanalyse zum komplexen Zusammenspiel von Fremd- und Selbstkolonialisierung verkörpert zugleich den Abschluss einer Trilogie zur Oberthematik »Ökonomie verorten: Raum-Zeit-Reisen«.

    In recent years, the term global art has become a catchphrase in contemporary art discourses. Going beyond additive notions of canon expansion, this volume encourages a differentiated inquiry into the complex aesthetic, cultural, historical, political, epistemological and socio-economic implications of both the term global art itself and the practices it subsumes. Focusing on diverse examples of art, curating, historiography and criticism, the contributions not only take into account (new) hegemonies and exclusions but also the shifting conditions of transcultural art production, circulation and reception.

Deutungen der Wirklichkeit stellen nicht nur ein Ergebnis soziokultureller Prägung dar, sondern geben zugleich Aufschluss über Dynamiken gesellschaftlicher Prozesse. Die basalen Deutungsmuster der Wirklichkeit weisen zudem Raumbezüge auf, die im Zentrum dieser Untersuchung von Unternehmensübernahmen (Mergers & Acquisitions, M&A) stehen.     In recent years, the term global art has become a catchphrase in contemporary art discourses. Going beyond additive notions of canon expansion, this volume encourages a differentiated inquiry into the complex aesthetic, cultural, historical, political, epistemological and socio-economic implications of both the term global art itself and the practices it subsumes. Focusing on diverse examples of art, curating, historiography and criticism, the contributions not only take into account (new) hegemonies and exclusions but also the shifting conditions of transcultural art production, circulation and reception.

    Dörfliche Idylle oder Trugbild? Ländliche Landschaften stellen die Ur-Topographie des Idyllischen dar, die Idylle selbst hat aber kaum eine Mimesis des realen Landlebens zum Ziel. Vielmehr hängt es vom historischen und sozialen Kontext ab, wie viel Dörflichkeit die Idylle als Genre und als Denkbild verträgt: von den Prozessen der Urbanisierung und Globalisierung, von politischer Ideologisierung dörflicher Gemeinschaften oder aber von Konzepten eines guten Lebens. Die Beiträger_innen des Bandes befragen das paradoxe Verhältnis von Idylle und Dorf in der Literatur aus einer komparatistischen ost-westeuropäischen Perspektive. Mit Beiträgen u.a. von Werner Nell, Marcus Twellmann, Alina Molisak und Alhierd Bacharevic.

    A close look behind the scenes of the boardrooms: interpretations of the actions of managers (and logics related to space) versus the cultural-spatial »other« in the context of international corporate takeovers. Deutungen der Wirklichkeit stellen nicht nur ein Ergebnis soziokultureller Prägung dar, sondern geben zugleich Aufschluss über Dynamiken gesellschaftlicher Prozesse. Die basalen Deutungsmuster der Wirklichkeit weisen zudem Raumbezüge auf, die im Zentrum dieser Untersuchung von Unternehmensübernahmen (Mergers & Acquisitions, M&A) stehen. This is a first edited collection to trace the relationship between history, photography and memory in a global perspective on three interrelated levels: firstly, in the artistic and cultural production of pictures, secondly, in the decoding of colonial and contemporary photography, and thirdly, in collecting photographs in picture archives dealing with colonial, anthropological and family photography. The contributions sketch the contested field of global photography and trace the manifold intertwinements between historical and contemporary photographs.

Rohit Jain zeichnet nach, wie diese »unmöglichen« Subjekte inmitten von assimilatorischem Rassismus und warenförmiger Anerkennung in der Schweiz sowie in den diasporischen Räumen eines liberalisierten Indiens neue Lebensentwürfe erfinden.     Aufgewachsen zwischen Schweizer Überfremdungsangst und diasporischer Nostalgie: »Inder_innen der zweiten Generation« verfügten als Kinder kaum über Narrative für ihre Erfahrung der Mehrfachzugehörigkeit. Rohit Jain zeichnet nach, wie diese »unmöglichen« Subjekte inmitten von assimilatorischem Rassismus und warenförmiger Anerkennung in der Schweiz sowie in den diasporischen Räumen eines liberalisierten Indiens neue Lebensentwürfe erfinden.     In recent years, the term global art has become a catchphrase in contemporary art discourses. Going beyond additive notions of canon expansion, this volume encourages a differentiated inquiry into the complex aesthetic, cultural, historical, political, epistemological and socio-economic implications of both the term global art itself and the practices it subsumes. Focusing on diverse examples of art, curating, historiography and criticism, the contributions not only take into account (new) hegemonies and exclusions but also the shifting conditions of transcultural art production, circulation and reception.

    Bringing together leading critics and literary scholars, A New Vocabulary for Global Modernism argues for new ways of understanding the nature and development of twentieth-century literature and culture. Scholars have largely understood modernism as an American and European phenomenon. Those parameters have expanded in recent decades, but the incorporation of multiple origins and influences has often been tied to older conceptual frameworks that make it difficult to think of modernism globally. Providing alternative approaches, A New Vocabulary for Global Modernism introduces pathways through global archives and new frameworks that offer a richer, more representative set of concepts for the analysis of literary and cultural works.In separate essays each inspired by a critical term, this collection explores what happens to the foundational concepts of modernism and the methods we bring to modernist studies when we approach the field as a global phenomenon. Their work transforms the intellectual paradigms we have long associated with modernism, such as tradition, antiquity, style, and translation. New paradigms, such as context, slum, copy, pantomime, and puppets emerge as the archive extends beyond its European center. In bringing together and reexamining the familiar as well as the emergent, the contributors to this volume offer an invaluable and original approach to studying the intersection of world literature and modernist studies.
