    Die Unterrepräsentanz von berufstätigen Frauen in ranghohen Positionen ist nach wie vor ein Thema in Gesellschaft und Politik. In Wissenschaft und Forschung war der Fokus bisher eher darauf gerichtet, was Frauen an beruflichem Erfolg hindert, wo etwa strukturelle Barrieren oder persönliche Faktoren einen Einfluss haben.Dieser bislang eher defizitorientierte Blick auf gut qualifizierte und erfolgsmotivierte Frauen vernachlässigte die Frage nach den Ressourcen und Kompetenzen von Frauen, die beruflich erfolgreich geworden sind. Dabei wurde die Frage nach Erfolgsfaktoren von Frauen mit Behinderung überhaupt nicht gestellt. In dieser Untersuchung mit qualitativen Interviews wird nach den Ressourcen von Frauen mit und ohne Behinderung gefragt und ihre Kompetenzen, Strategien und die Relevanz von sozialen Beziehungen werden ermittelt. Was bedeutet es für Frauen mit und ohne Behinderung, beruflich erfolgreich zu sein? Über welche Kompetenzen verfügen sie? Wie gestalten sie soziale Beziehungen und welche Strategien wenden sie an? Welche Empfehlungen geben sie anderen Frauen und Arbeitgeberinnen bzw. Organisationen? Dieses Buch will neben dem Beitrag zur Forschung auch hilfreiche Anregungen geben für Interessenvertretungen wie Gleichstellungsbeauftragte, Diversity-Beauftragte, Schwerbehindertenvertrauenspersonen und Personalrätinnen. Darüber hinaus können auch Führungskräfte, Erwachsenenbildnerinnen und Pädagoginnen profitieren

    "Ableism remains the most socially acceptable form of intolerance, with pejoratives referencing disability - and intellectual disability in particular - remaining largely unquestioned among many. Yet the understanding, depiction, and representation of disability is also clearly in a process of transformation. This volume analyzes that transformation, taking a close look at attitudes toward disability, understood as a "deviation" from what a non-disabled body should ostensibly be able to do and how it should look, in historical and contemporary German-speaking contexts. The volume begins with an overview of the emergence and growth of disability studies in German-speaking Europe against the background of the field's emergence a decade or so earlier in the US and UK. The differences in timing, methodology, and research concentrations bring into focus how each cultural context has shaped the field. Building on recent scholarship that uses a cultural studies approach, the volume's three sections analyze disability and ability constructs in history, memory, and culture. The essays in the history section examine the emotions, morality, and power as they are negotiated on the individual level. Those in the memory section grapple with the origins of the Nazi persecution of people with disabilities, the fight for recognition of this genocide, and the politics of its commemoration. Finally, the culture section offers close readings of disability in literary and filmic texts from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries"--

Triangulating insights from queer studies, disability studies, and rhetorical studies, J. Logan Smilges explores what silence can mean for people whose bodyminds signify more powerfully than their words. Reading a range of cultural artifacts whose relative silence has failed to attract queer attachment, from anonymous profiles to Grindr to ex-gays to belated gender transitions to disability performance art, Smilges argues for silence's critical role in serving the needs of queers who are never named as such. Ultimately, they urge queer activists and queer studies scholars to reconcile with their own ableism by acknowledging the liberatory potential of silence, a mode of engagement that disattached queers use every day for resistance, sociality, and survival.

    "At first glance it may seem that the Hebrew prophets offer little resolution on contemporary concerns of inclusivity and defense for persons deemed "other." Bound by their time and culture, the prophets' message seems obscure and irrelevant. However, on closer look, we see that the prophets offer a call to justice for those who are wrongly oppressed and marginalized, those on the fringes of society--the downcast and the disabled. In Prophetic Disability, Sarah Melcher opens our eyes to the prophetic corpus' ongoing theological relevance in the first book-length treatment of disability in the Bible's prophetic literature. Melcher takes a deep exegetical dive into Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and the Twelve, analyzing passages that mention disability explicitly and those that offer complementary relevance. With careful and detailed exegetical work, she shows us the profound relationship between disability and the sovereignty of God, the latter being the dominant theme shaping all other motifs in the prophets. Influenced by the prominent work in disability studies by Tom Shakespeare's critical realism, she sets forth her own method in conversation with rhetorical and literary criticism. Melcher's engagement with these ancient texts is informed throughout by a respect for the context and circumstances that generated the texts relevant to disability, as well as a sensitivity to the lived experiences of people with disabilities. To that end, Prophetic Disability maintains the central theme from Shakespeare: that labels describe, but do not "constitute," disease. Who we are is a reality beyond our distinct experience with disability and impairment. What emerges from Melcher's analysis are ways in which the theological implications arising from the prophetic corpus might guide us toward more ethical practice in our encounters with disabilities." --

    Die Unterrepräsentanz von berufstätigen Frauen in ranghohen Positionen ist nach wie vor ein Thema in Gesellschaft und Politik. In Wissenschaft und Forschung war der Fokus bisher eher darauf gerichtet, was Frauen an beruflichem Erfolg hindert, wo etwa strukturelle Barrieren oder persönliche Faktoren einen Einfluss haben. Dieser bislang eher defizitorientierte Blick auf gut qualifizierte und erfolgsmotivierte Frauen vernachlässigte die Frage nach den Ressourcen und Kompetenzen von Frauen, die beruflich erfolgreich geworden sind. Dabei wurde die Frage nach Erfolgsfaktoren von Frauen mit Behinderung überhaupt nicht gestellt. In dieser Untersuchung mit qualitativen Interviews wird nach den Ressourcen von Frauen mit und ohne Behinderung gefragt und ihre Kompetenzen, Strategien und die Relevanz von sozialen Beziehungen werden ermittelt. Was bedeutet es für Frauen mit und ohne Behinderung, beruflich erfolgreich zu sein? Über welche Kompetenzen verfügen sie? Wie gestalten sie soziale Beziehungen und welche Strategien wenden sie an? Welche Empfehlungen geben sie anderen Frauen und Arbeitgeber*innen bzw. Organisationen? Dieses Buch will neben dem Beitrag zur Forschung auch hilfreiche Anregungen geben für Interessenvertretungen wie Gleichstellungsbeauftragte, Diversity-Beauftragte, Schwerbehindertenvertrauenspersonen und Personalrätinnen. Darüber hinaus können auch Führungskräfte, Erwachsenenbildner*innen und Pädagog*innen profitieren
