    Zusammenfassung: "This book explores the work Mishle he-'arav [The Sayings of the Arabs], a Hebrew wisdom text, probably written in Provence during the first half of the thirteenth century. Its fifty chapters consist of prose sections, with Andalusian-style poems interspersed and clusters of biblical quotations. The precise date and place of production are uncertain, but the author, whose identity is also unknown, says that he translated the work from Arabic. Neither a critical edition of all Hebrew manuscripts, nor a translation into any European language, or a broad study have been made of Mishle he 'arav, which is only briefly mentioned in histories of medieval Hebrew literature or treated partially in studies focusing on one particular aspect of the work. This constitutes a conspicuous gap in our knowledge of the history of medieval Hebrew literature, which it is the intention of this book to fill"--(Provided by publisher.)
