    Klappentext: Die Arbeit verfolgt Formen und ideologische Hintergründe fingierter indianischer Mündlichkeit von ihren Anfängen in den Aufzeichnungen und Reiseberichten von Händlern, Missionaren und Siedlern bis zur Gegenwart. Dabei wird deutlich, wie sehr sich Gruppeninteressen auf die Darstellung indianischer Sprachen und der Ureinwohner als Redner auswirken. Die Aneignung indianischer Sprachen, Geschichte(n), Mythen und poetischer Formen durch den Literaturmarkt sowie die Entwicklung von Stereotypen und ihr Wandel im historischen Prozeß werden an Werken amerikanischer und kanadischer Autoren nachgezeichnet.
